MUJERES FRANCESAS Y MATRIMONIO EN LA CATALUÑA MODERNA (SIGLOS XVI-XVII)
No full textThis article aims at studying in more detail the marriage behaviour of French women who emigrated to Catalonia in the 16th and 17th centuries within the context of the great migratory wave that the Hispanic Monarchy received. Thus, fir the first time, the Marriage License Books from de Cathedral of Barcelona, compiled in the Barcelona Historical Marriage Database; the marriage records of the Diocese of Barcelona and the French Register of 1637, have been nominally linked. The main results show a high level of geographic and social homogamy in their marriages as a consequence of an important imbalance in the marriage market. In this sense, for every nine French men, we find only one French woman. Likewise, the women were gathered in the lowest layers of the society, declaring that they were basically daughters of peasants and journal laborers.El presente artículo persigue profundizar en el comportamiento matrimonial de las mujeres francesas que emigraron a Cataluña en los siglos XVI y XVII en el marco de la gran oleada migratoria que recibió la monarquía hispánica. Así, se han cruzado nominativamente, y por primera vez, los libros de esponsales de la catedral de Barcelona, recogidos en la Barcelona Historical Marriage Database; los expedientes matrimoniales de la diócesis de Barcelona y la Matrícula de franceses de 1637. Los resultados muestran un alto nivel de homogamia geográfica y social en sus matrimonios como consecuencia de un marcado desequilibrio del mercado matrimonial. En este sentido, por cada nueve franceses encontramos una sola francesa. Asimismo, estas migrantes estaban concentradas en las capas más bajas de la sociedad del momento, declarando ser hijas, básicamente, de campesinos y jornaleros.

Having lived in Brazil for most of his life, Compostela-born painter Modesto Brocos travelled to Europe from 1897 to 1901 to work on a painting in Rome with which he had «dreamt of before becoming a painter» and on which he portrayed various passages of the Jacobean tradition. After exhibiting it in Paris and Madrid with little success, a disheartened Brocos left it in a storeroom at the Cathedral of Santiago and returned to Río de Janeiro. Nowadays it constitutes one of the great-unknown jewels of the cathedral’s art heritage, despite its crucial role in the resurgence of pilgrimages to Santiago and its importance for the cathedral’s collection of paintings. This article focuses on the painting’s creative process and vicissitudes surrounding the artist’s work, as well as on its admittance to the cathedral’s storerooms, its role in a revitalisation programme of the Jacobean phenomenon at the start of the 20th century and its recent valuation in the wake of a full restoration that prevented it of its destruction. Moreover, this article presents new dates and data that shed light on its production in Rome, conclusion, and arrival at the Cathedral of SantiagoResidente en Brasil durante la mayor parte de su vida, el compostelano Modesto Brocos se trasladó a Europa entre los años 1897 y 1901 con el fin de pintar, en Roma, un cuadro por él «soñado antes de ser pintor» y en el que representó varios pasajes de la tradición jacobea. Tras presentarlo, con escaso éxito, en París y Madrid, un descorazonado Brocos lo dejó en depósito en la catedral de Santiago y regresó a Río de Janeiro. Hoy constituye una de las grandes joyas desconocidas de las colecciones catedralicias, a pesar de haber tenido una importancia clave en el resurgimiento de las peregrinaciones a Santiago y de tener una presencia destacada entre la colección pictórica de la catedral. El presente estudio analiza el proceso de realización del cuadro, las vicisitudes de su autor, su ingreso en los fondos catedralicios, su papel dentro de un programa de revitalización del fenómeno jacobeo a principios del siglo XX y su valorización reciente, tras una compleja restauración que lo salvó de su desaparición. Así mismo, se aportan fechas y datos inéditos que permiten establecer su período de realización en Roma, su conclusión y su llegada a la catedral compostelana.
 
CONTRIBUCIONES DE LA ESPAÑA INTERIOR A LAS INFRAESTRUCTURAS HOSPITALARIAS DEL SIGLO XX: LA CORPORACIÓN PROVINCIAL EN EL CASO DE ZAMORA
Get PDFIn order to have a deep understanding of the development of health in Spain, it is decisive to approach the sanitary equipment built singularly during the third quarter of the 20th century, and further away from the major capitals. Despite their relative modesty, these hospital had a decisive relevance in the areas furthest away from the centres of research and development of Spanish medicine, especially in the less developed regions. In addition to the resources provided by the national system, the contribution of the Provincial Councils in terms of hospital equipment managed to guarantee practically universal coverage to the citizens of these territories, despite the certain formal and endowment restraint of these hospitals. We will go deeper into this by looking at the case of Zamora as an example of the moderate contributions of inland Spain. To this end, we resorted to the study of the documentation produced by the governmental institutions and the Provincial Council itself, as well as to the analysis of the architectural projects of the hospital promoted in the 1960s. In this way, we study the response provided by this hospital, which was later incorporated into the regional health system, until it was demolished in 2015.Para comprender de forma más integral el desarrollo de la sanidad en España resulta decisivo acercarnos a los equipamientos sanitarios construidos en la última etapa de nuestra historia, singularmente durante el tercer cuarto del siglo XX, y más alejados de las grandes capitales. A pesar de su relativa modestia, estos centros hospitalarios, tuvieron una relevancia decisiva en las zonas más apartadas de los núcleos de investigación y desenvolvimiento de la medicina y la ciencia españolas, especialmente en las regiones menos desarrolladas. Junto a los medios aportados por el Sistema Nacional de Salud, la contribución de las Diputaciones en cuanto a infraestructuras hospitalarias consiguió garantizar una cobertura prácticamente universal a los ciudadanos de estos territorios, no obstante la cierta contención formal y dotacional de sus edificios. Atentemos al caso de Zamora como ejemplo de las moderadas aportaciones de la España interior. Para ello recurrimos al estudio de la documentación producida por órganos del ministerio gubernamental y la propia Diputación provincial, así como al análisis de los distintos proyectos arquitectónicos del hospital promovido por la corporación en la década de los 60. Abordamos así la respuesta contextualizada de esta dotación hospitalaria, incorporada posteriormente al sistema sanitario autonómico, hasta su derribo en 2015
HABITANDO EL FOTOMATÓN: RESISTENCIAS Y AFECTOS FOTOGRÁFICOS QUEER
Get PDFThis article aims to analyse photography as a site of political resistance and affectivity for queer people, focusing specifically on photobooth photography. For this purpose, a photograph from 1953 has been chosen to analyse several issues. Firstly, the potential for spatial subversion made possible by the photo booth, as a semi-private and intimate space in public space, which allowed a momentary refuge for queer couples who could not exhibit their love publicly. Secondly, the possibility of having one\u27s photograph taken and leaving a record of this proscribed relationship will also be one of the potencies of this space, thereby exploring the special affective relationship of the photographic medium with queer lives. It will therefore be argued that it is the indexical character of the photograph that makes it eminently attractive when it comes not only to attesting to the existence of the couple, but also to constructing it materially and symbolically. In short, everything will revolve around the exploration of queer photography as a habitable spatiality in itself; thus starting from a dialogue from the present with the past, in a consciously transtemporal and politically useful connection.El presente artículo se propone analizar la fotografía como lugar de resistencia política y afectividad para las personas queer, centrándose en concreto en la fotografía de fotomatón. Para ello, se ha elegido una fotografía de 1953 que servirá para analizar varias cuestiones. En primer lugar, las potencialidades de subversión espacial que el fotomatón posibilita, como un espacio semiprivado e íntimo en el espacio público, que permitía un refugio momentáneo para parejas queer que no podían exhibir su amor públicamente. En segundo lugar, la posibilidad de hacerse una foto y dejar constancia de esa relación proscrita será también una de las potencias de este espacio, explorándose con ello la especial relación afectiva del medio fotográfico con las vidas queer. Se sostendrá por ello que es el carácter indexical de la foto lo que la hace eminentemente atractiva a la hora no solo de atestiguar la existencia de la pareja, sino de construirla material y simbólicamente. En suma, todo girará en torno a la exploración de la fotografía queer como espacialidad habitable en sí misma; partiendo así de un diálogo desde el presente con el pasado, en una conexión conscientemente transtemporal y políticamente útil
LA HISTORIA DEL ARTE EN LA ÉPOCA DE SU HIPERCOMUNICABILIDAD AUDIOVISUAL
Get PDFThis article addresses the situation of art history in its social dimension precisely now, when it has become one of the most topics in digital audiovisual communication. Faced with the hyperabundance of audiovisual products dealing with art history, this article considers how this medium implies a series of transformations in the traditional modes of socialization of art history as a discipline halfway between the museum and the academia. In so doing, the crises that have plunged into our discipline will be raised, attending to cases that go beyond our own Spaniard geography.
To this end, the article approaches two essential television documentary series on the subject, Kenneth Clark\u27s Civilisation (1969) and John Berger\u27s Ways of Seeing (1972), contrasting the models, their consequences and the possibilities afforded by the new television medium. This will lead us to apply the conclusions extracted from the previous examples to the Spanish context, where the series Mirar un cuadro (1983-1988) will be the final focus of attention. How an innovative and path breaking art history can be developed in the audiovisual economy will be the concluding question of the study.Este artículo aborda la situación de la historia del arte en su dimensión social precisamente ahora, cuando esta disciplina se ha convertido en uno de los temas más recurrentes de la comunicación audiovisual digital. Ante la hiperabundancia de productos audiovisuales que abordan la historia del arte, el artículo se plantea cómo este medio implica una serie de transformaciones en los modos tradicionales de socialización de la historia del arte como disciplina a medio caballo entre el museo y la universidad. Al hacerlo, las crisis que se han abalanzado sobre nuestra disciplina serán planteadas atendiendo a casos que se salen de nuestra geografía. Con tal objetivo, el artículo aborda dos series documentales esenciales al respecto como son Civilisation, de Kenneth Clark (1969), y Ways of Seeing, de John Berger (1972), contraponiendo los modelos, sus consecuencias y las posibilidades que permitía el nuevo medio televisivo. Ello nos conducirá a aplicar estas ideas al contexto español, donde la serie Mirar un cuadro (1983-1988) será el foco de la atención final. Cómo se puede desarrollar una historia del arte arriesgada e innovadora en la economía audiovisual conformará la pregunta que concluya el estudio
Anagramas filosófico-culturales: Kusch y Glissant
No full textThis text focuses on the main concepts of the philosophical proposals of Rodolfo Kusch and Édouard Glissant. First, he resorts to the metaphor of the journey to reflect on the common tenor between a philosophy dedicated to pointing out the power of the territory (Kusch) and a poetic-philosophical movement mobilized to problematize the link between different cultural frameworks. Following this, it stops at Kusch\u27s philosophy, investigating the dialogue of the notion of to be-being (estar-siendo) with a pre-ontological proposal that argues the american cultural authenticity. In a third section, the concepts of Relation, Chaos-World and Glissant\u27s wandering are discussed as members of a poiesis that disarticulates the binary distributions of modernity, taking the notion of to be-like-being as the backbone Finally, it is concluded that, despite the distances between Kusch and Glissant, both philosophers ponder the place of a postcolonial difference within the cultural fabric of our America.El presente texto se detiene en los principales conceptos de las propuestas filosóficas de Rodolfo Kusch y Édouard Glissant. Primero recurre a la metáfora del viaje para reflexionar el tenor común entre una filosofía dedicada a señalar la potencia del suelo (Kusch) y una poética-filosófica movilizada por problematizar el vínculo de distintos entramados culturales. Seguido de esto, se detiene en la filosofía de Kusch indagando el diálogo de la noción de estar-siendo con una propuesta pre-ontólogica que argumenta la autenticidad americana. En un tercer apartado, se discuten los conceptos de Relación, Caos-Mundo y errancia de Glissant como integrantes de una poiesis que desarticula los repartos binarios de la modernidad tomando como núcleo vertebral la noción del ser-como-siendo. Finalmente se concluye que, pese a las distancias entre Kusch y Glissant, ambos filósofos cavilan el lugar de una diferencia poscolonial dentro del entramado cultural nuestroamericano

No full textResearch of the METAPRES group has allowed for analyzing the Columns on Language (CSL) as a specific metalinguistic discourse tradition that has continued since the end of the 19th century. In this context, the role of phraseology is studied in a corpus of csl published for decades. The principal aim of this paper is to analyze contrastively several authors as a sample of a metalinguistic discourse tradition in which certain compositional and discourse-pragmatic patterns repeatedly occur. Special attention is payed to phraseological units and their communicative function. The article shows the role played by phraseological unites (UFS) as linguistic elements, the extent to which they contribute to the construction of a specific way of presenting language and, consequently, their contribution to the transmission of general conceptions about language.Los trabajos del grupo METAPRES nos han permitido analizar las Columnas sobre la lengua (CSL) como una tradición discursiva metalingüística reconocible y continuada desde finales del siglo XIX, en la que se repiten ciertos patrones composicionales y pragmático-enunciativos. En este contexto se estudia el papel de la fraseología en un corpus de CSL publicadas durante décadas. Nuestro objetivo es analizar contrastivamente varios autores a lo largo del tiempo como muestra de esta tradición, fijando nuestra atención en una temática que desde siempre ha preocupado como es la fraseología, los tipos de unidades fraseológicas (UFS) y su función comunicativa. En el trabajo se muestra qué papel desempeñan las UFS, hasta qué punto colaboran a construir una manera determinada de presentar el idioma, y, en consecuencia, su contribución en la transmisión de un imaginario sobre la lengua
Las oraciones subordinadas de relativo y su rendimiento en el texto escrito
No full textThis paper focuses on the use of relative clauses in Spanish written texts that either serve as an adjunct to the noun phrase or perform an incidental function. It evaluates how they are used in four discourse modes (narratives, descriptions, instructions and expositions). First, special attention is paid to the frequency of use and the differences observed in each text type. Secondly, the paper evaluates the performance of the different relative pronouns when they are used in restrictive or non-restrictive clauses and when they are used in clauses with or without an explicit antecedent. Thirdly, it concentrates on the morphological nature of verbs, paying special attention to the conditions that prompt writers to use the subjunctive.Este trabajo se fija en el uso de las oraciones subordinadas de relativo en el texto escrito en español cuando cumplen función de adjuntos del sintagma nominal o cuando intervienen desde la función incidental. Se evalúa cómo se emplean en cuatro modos del discurso (narraciones, descripciones, instrucciones y exposiciones): en primer lugar, se presta especial atención a la frecuencia de uso y a las diferencias observadas según el tipo textual; en segundo lugar, se valora el rendimiento de los nexos relativos empleados según se trate de construcciones especificativas o explicativas con o sin antecedente expreso; finalmente, se detiene en la naturaleza morfológica de las predicaciones verbales, poniendo especial interés en las condiciones que facilitan el empleo del subjuntivo en ellas
