Highlights: The article describes the concept of a Scientific Reference Model (SRM) and its specific workflow and guidelines exemplified for a hypothetical 3D reconstruction of architectural cultural heritage. The article gives new insights and questions concerning the former synagogue in Ashmyany (Belarus) as a Case Study for testing the SRM concept. The article gives an insight into the market for infrastructures for publication and preservation of 3D models of cultural heritage using the example of the presented case study. Abstract: This article examines the application of the Scientific Reference Model (SRM) concept in hypothetical three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions of architectural heritage, focusing on the synagogue in Ashmyany, Belarus. The SRM approach, tested in courses at the Hochschule Mainz, allows for transparent documentation of digital reconstructions to support further scholarly research and community engagement. Using historical source material, the 3D model of the synagogue in Ashmyany, serves as a case study for testing this methodology. The reconstruction process highlights the complexity of preserving Jewish architectural heritage in East Central Europe, where shifting political borders and a lack of comprehensive documentation complicate efforts. The synagogue’s architecture, including significant elements such as the Bima and Torah ark, was modelled using Building Information Modelling (BIM)-compliant software. However, certain elements had to be approximated due to limited historical sources, illustrating the challenge of reconstructing lost heritage with accuracy. The integration of historical photographs and surveys into the modelling phase not only enriched the digital reconstruction but also led to further questions about the building’s history and modifications over time. In addition to creating 3D models, the SRM emphasizes the importance of detailed documentation, following the FAIR principles to ensure that reconstructions are traceable and reusable for future research. Platforms like the CoVHer Repository facilitate the publication and accessibility of these models, alongside their metadata and source documentation. The Ashmyany synagogue case study demonstrates how 3D reconstructions can help visualize lost architectural heritage, offering new insights into its historical context and emphasizing the need for continued research on open repositories and digital preservation efforts. This approach showcases the potential of HBIM-modelling to contribute to the study and preservation of Jewish architectural heritage, while underscoring the ongoing need for community engagement and scholarly collaboration.

This study explores the speculative digital reconstruction of an unrealized circular cloister designed by Donato Bramante as part of his project for the Tempietto of San Pietro in Montorio, Rome, circa 1502–1510. By referencing Sebastiano Serlio’s surviving drawing—the only contemporary representation of this project—and employing 3D digital modeling, the study examines two potential configurations for the cloister, shedding light on Bramante’s integration of Vitruvian principles into Renaissance architectural theory. The research highlights the challenges posed by the Tempietto’s unique spatial constraints, as well as the role of classical architectural archetypes, particularly the paradigm of the column and architrave in classical designs. Documenting the reconstruction process, this study applies digital reconstruction methodologies, including the Apollonio-Fallavollita-Foschi uncertainty scale, to explore the architectural and structural solutions and the references Bramante might have considered. By addressing whether an architrave- or arch-based system might have been proposed, the research provides insights into Bramante’s architectural intent. This analysis emphasizes the potential of digital reconstructions in addressing historical designs characterized by high levels of uncertainty and interpreting lost architectural works. As part of the international CoVHer Project, this research demonstrates the value of digital tools in cultural heritage preservation and their potential to reinterpret lost or unrealized architectural works. These findings enrich the historiography of architecture, offering new approaches to verifying and reimagining historical designs. Future studies could extend these methodologies to explore other speculative reconstructions, bridging historical inquiry with contemporary visualization techniques.

Páramo ecosystems are essential for water regulation and biodiversity conservation in mountainous areas. However, they face significant threats due to climate change and human activities such as agriculture, livestock farming, and mining. The absence of clear boundaries and continuous monitoring systems for their land cover hinders effective protection highlighting the need to employ advanced digital techniques that provide highly accurate, up-to-date information. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have emerged as promising tools for semantic segmentation of satellite images. This research aimed to evaluate the performance of two CNNs architectures U-Net++ and DeepLabV3+ for land cover classification in the Tota-Bijagual-Mamapacha (TBM) páramo complex in Colombia, using Landsat 8 imagery from 2017 to 2019 and land cover labels from 1:100.000, national coverage map produced by IDEAM in 2018. The results showed U-Net++ achieved a kappa of 0.60, while DeepLabV3+ obtained a kappa of 0.59. In páramo covers, U-Net++ achieved an F1 of 78.43% for Herbazal and 79.22% for Forests, while DeepLabV3+ achieved F1 of 75% and 74.27%, respectively, confirming the potential of CNNs for land cover classification in these ecosystems. Although both models presented similar processing times, class imbalance and reliance on consistent labels affected their performance in heterogeneous covers. This research establishes a methodological foundation for future studies and suggests addressing these limitations toimprove efficiency and thematic accuracy in the classification and monitoring in páramo ecosystems.

Environmental risks are a concern for the habitability of the planet. It is estimated that by 2050, 68 % of the world’s population will live in cities, and in Mexico, 79 % already reside in urban areas. This population concentration faces threats such as climate variability and the effects of climate change, which manifested themselves in extreme weather events, including flooding. The Topographic Wetness Index (TWI) is a useful tool for identifying areas susceptible to flooding and planning preventive infrastructure. In this research, a diachronic digital hemerographic analysis of flooding in Xalapa de Enriquez, Veracruz, Mexico; was performed by modeling the TWI with LIDAR data to identify flood-prone areas. Marginalization, per capita tree cover and storm drainage in the city were also analyzed. The results showed that, in 18 years, 369 floods occurred in 120 neighborhoods, affecting 61.5 % of the inhabitants. 56 % of the floods occurred between 2017 and 2022. Two of the three colonias with the most floods have a medium degree of marginalization. 39.8 % of the colonias have less than 5 m² of trees per inhabitant, failing to comply with local legislation, and 56.7 % do not reach the internationally recommended 15 m². The TWI revealed that 45 % of the floodable surface is not registered in the Flood Hazards and Vulnerability section of the Municipal Land Use Planning Program. The 10 neighborhoods with the most flooded have the lowest percentages of storm sewers. It is concluded that it is feasible and desirable to replicate the TWI in other cities to prevent flooding and plan integrated disaster risk management works, valuing the per capita tree-covered area in coordination with improvements in storm drainage, through an intra-urban neighborhood approach.

Let E be a uniformly convex Banach space and C a nonempty closed bounded convex subset of E. Let  Γ : C ⟶ C and G : C ⟶ C be enriched strictly pseudocontractive mapping and  Φ Γ -enriched Lipschitzian mapping respectively. We introduce the above two mappings in uniformly convex Banach space and thereafter prove that a new modified mixed-type lshikawa iteration scheme converges strongly to the common fixed points of Γ and G. In addition, we incorporate error terms to enhance the convergence ofthe method and also to improve the stability and robustness of the method. Our results extend and generalize the results obtained in [5] and so many other recent results currently existing in literature

This work introduces a novel three-type iteration method for estimating the fixed point approximation for a contraction mapping in the context of Banach space. Furthermore, we present a stability finding for an iteration scheme, demonstrating the strong convergence of our new iteration scheme. In conclusion, we proved that our iteration runs faster than some other iterations previously documented in the literature. We also provide a numerical example using the computer application Matlab to support our claim

In today’s world, where digital technologies are being used more and more every day, architectural education is one of the fields experiencing radical changes. Although many studies in the literature investigate digitalization in architectural education or sustainable architectural education, there are few studies on the digitalization of architectural education to ensure sustainability. This research aims to identify the scientific production on digitalization in education for a sustainable architecture indexed in the international databases Scopus and Web of Science and to determine the maturity of the research on this subject. The results consist of 100 articles published between 2007 and 2024. The data obtained in the study were visualized and analysed with Biblioshiny, VOSviewer, and SankeyMatic programs. The articles obtained were categorized and evaluated to determine which keywords indicated which research topics. In the study results, various research areas such as BIM, simulation, digital fabrication, AR-VR technology, and artificial intelligence from digital technologies have been prominent topics in recent years. The results of this review emphasize the need for more research on the subject and the importance of multidisciplinary studies

    Infinity valued partial metrics

A partial metric is a generalised metric incorporating non-zero self-distance. It was introduced by Matthews in Computer Science, and connected well with Kopperman's long standing interest in generalised metrics and non-Hausdorff topology. In this article we further generalise partial metrics by incoporating ∞ as a distance. We prove that a so-called infinite partial metric induces a partial metrizable topology, but not in general vice verse

Reviving both the tangible and intangible aspects of lost heritage is essential to preserve awareness for future generations. The 9th-century city of Al-Qaṭāʾi in Egypt has been repeatedly destroyed during the conflicts between the Tulunids and the Abbasids. Virtual technologies and three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction serve to digitally raise awareness of the city and its historical significance, especially since it no longer exists. The challenge of digital revival in this project's framework is to imagine how life unfolded in the city during the 9th century. Our goal in this project is to leverage the advancements in 3D modelling technologies to reconstruct the lost historical Egyptian city. The methodology report begins with a description of the foundation for the 3D model reconstruction of the historically lost city, which serves as the main case study for this project. The methodology for this reconstruction is achieved through scope definition, wherein the main structures and complementary elements of the scene are identified. This is followed by the documentation phase, during which all available information on the scene is gathered through sketches, engravings, photographs, plans, and other sources. The next phase involves establishing hypotheses, where 2D and 3D sketches are produced to propose the general volumes of structures and elements. Finally, the creation of 3D models brings the structures and associated elements to life through the texturing process, as well as the inclusion of terrain, vegetation, fauna, characters, and other components, allowing the complete scene to emerge. The objective of the article is to revive the destroyed architecture of the non-existent city and communicate its value to the public through interactive virtual exploration. This study aims to demonstrate how the combination of digital methods for virtual reconstruction is valuable for both knowledge dissemination and research, through the case study of Al-Qaṭāʾi in Egypt.

William Yang is one of the foremost Australian professionals of recent decades as both a social documentary photographer and a performance artist. A pioneer in portraying the gay environment in the southern country since the 1970s, he was a direct witness to the impact that AIDS caused in the homosexual community, to which he belonged, documenting it in a heartbreaking way. His works share the commitment with many other professionals around the world who, through photography, fought against the stigma towards HIV patients, creating a genre within this artistic discipline during the hardest years of the epidemic. Claim works that in the case of Yang propose a parallelism between life and death making art from his personal life, since many of those portrayed were friends and lovers. The body tormented and infected by the virus became a fundamental theme, highlighting the series of snapshots about Allan in Sadness, his former lover whom he accompanied in the last moments of his life. A unique artist who created awareness through poetic reminiscences and contributed, from the antipodes, to normalize the patient of this disease in society.
