Recent advances and the widespread availability of emerging artificial intelligence technologies provide new tools that facilitate expanded creativity and the creation of generative art in the fields of art and education. We analyse the applicability of AI in primary and postgraduate education through two practical classroom experiences based on the creation of images from text using AI-based models. We start by reviewing existing AI-generated image production practices in the fields of fine art and art education before designing the two educational experiences implemented in the project. We employ a collaborative methodology that utilizes AI as a tool to create images with a focus on the process rather than on the final product, combining handmade and digital processes and placing emphasis on human creativity. We present two practical experiences carried out with postgraduate and primary school students, employing a combination of artistic genres and styles for the creation of children’s images and illustrations. We also establish a table of premises and objectives as a means of guiding the effective use of AI in education. AI constitutes a powerful new set of tools that can support and enhance technical and creative skills during the process of creating a work of art, permitting quick and easy exploration of multiple alternatives. However, it should not be regarded as a definitive solution but rather a procedural technique for creating images by fostering artistic and expressive skills.
Julio Vidaurre Jofre (1926-2004), Full Professor of Technical Drawing at ETSAM, is an essential figure in the history of architectural graphic expression education in Spain. More than fifty years after obtaining his chair and twenty years after his passing, the aim of this article is to clarify the conceptual foundations, methodological tools, and argumentative structure behind the apparent complexity of his theory on Drawing, upon which he built his teaching approach. Beyond the difficulty of reading his thought, its links with semiotics and structuralism, and the consequent problem of its possible relevance today, it can be concluded that his work contributed to establishing a solid set of conceptual and methodological instruments that can still be recognised today in the definition and pedagogy of the discipline of Architectural Drawing.
The creator of some of the most original and transcendental architectural projects of the second half of the 20th century, Carlo Scarpa manifests a dependence on drawing in his creative process, adopting it as a means of inspiration and reflection for his design method.
In his last project, a mausoleum for the Brion family in San Vito di Altivole (Italy), he proposes a commemorative architecture with profound symbolism, imbuing the site with a powerful emotional and poetic charge.
The meticulous work on the mausoleum is formalized in 1884 drawings, whose analysis allows us to reconstruct the author's reflective process: the concerns, variations, and conclusions of the design. The thoughts during the creative process are expressed in sketches in the margins of the main drawings.
The result is a contemplative space that evokes memory, where Scarpa guides the mechanisms of our memory and invites us on a poetic journey of sensations. World class manufacturing implementation in fiberglass industry: A performance analysis of operational excellence
This study evaluates the effectiveness of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) implementation in optimizing operational performance within the fibreglass insulation manufacturing sector. The study employed a systematic approach utilising Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as the primary evaluation tools. Data collection was conducted from 2023 to 2024, focusing on performance, availability, and quality metrics. Results show a significant improvement in OEE from 81.3% to 87.3%, validating the effectiveness of WCM in optimizing operations. The implementation fostered a culture of operational excellence, as evidenced by improved process understanding and increased employee engagement in improvement initiatives. Pareto analysis revealed several inefficiencies, enabling targeted interventions in line with WCM’s “zero waste” philosophy. The methodology was found to be adaptable to existing production systems, suggesting its viability for manufacturing environments in emerging economies. This study contributes to the literature by providing empirical evidence of the effectiveness of WCM in driving systematic improvement and organizational change, particularly in industrial development in emerging economies. The findings support the role of WCM in establishing sustainable operational excellence frameworks capable of meeting global competitive challenges
Sustainability in the textile sector through industry 4.0: A lifecycle-based qualitative study
The textile industry is among the most polluting sectors globally, primarily due to the rise of fast fashion and limited recycling practices. Addressing this challenge requires transformative approaches, among which Industry 4.0 technologies stand out as promising tools. This paper presents the findings of a qualitative study based on 16 in-depth interviews with key stakeholders in the Spanish textile sector. The research explores the potential of these technologies to enhance sustainability across various stages of the textile product life cycle. The results indicate that Industry 4.0 technologies can significantly contribute to improving environmental, economic, and social sustainability in the sector. However, further research is needed to identify the most impactful applications and to support their adoption, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises
Multi-objective non-linear cold storage capacity model for optimizing sustainability in bimodal climate regions
Cold storage is crucial for ensuring food security and optimizing supply chain efficiency, particularly in tropical regions with seasonal demand fluctuations. Existing optimization models often focus solely on economic and environmental aspects, neglecting a holistic sustainability approach and the uncertainty of seasonal demand fluctuations. This study develops a multi-objective non-linear programming (MO-NLP) model that optimizes economic profit, carbon emissions, and food security, incorporating sustainability weights (λ1, λ2, λ3) to accommodate different priorities. The model considers stochastic demand and land area, budget, and electricity constraints. The results show that the model effectively balances profitability, environmental impact, and food security. In the standard scenario, the optimal cold storage area is 256 m², resulting in a profit of USD 742,368, carbon costs of USD 122,579, and a probability of 0.9962 for food security. Sensitivity analysis indicates that increasing land availability improves performance but eventually reaches a saturation point, while seasonal demand fluctuations have a significant impact on decisions. A higher food security weight (λ3) stabilizes supply but reduces profitability, whereas profit dominance (λ1) boosts income but compromises environmental and social aspects. This study provides an optimization-based tool for industry stakeholders and policymakers. Integrating sustainability into a single framework provides an adaptive and efficient approach to cold storage planning in the face of economic and environmental uncertainties
On topological groups of automorphisms
We study spaces X for which the space Homp(X) of automorphisms with the topology of point-wise convergence is a topological group. We identify large classes of spaces X for which Homp(X) is or is not a topological group.
The hyperspace of closed subsets on the edge of irreducible continua
For a nonempty nowhere dense closed subset of a continuum , consider the following properties: being a non-weak cut subset, a non-block subset, a weak non-block subset, a shore subset, a non-strong center, and a non-cut subset of X. In this paper, we provide necessary conditions for subsets of an irreducible continuum about a subset to have one of these properties, and we prove that these properties are equivalent for nonempty nowhere dense closed subsets of an irreducible continuum about a finite subset. This result completes the study previously conducted on non-cut points and for subsets on the edge of a continuum by several authors
