Do gender-pairings and age/proficiency interplay in LRE production? A preliminary study with young CLIL learners

    Get PDF
Many studies have explored Language-Related Episodes (LREs) during collaborative dialogue.  However, research on the factors affecting LRE production in children, especially regarding gender-pairings in CLIL contexts, remains limited (e.g., Martínez-Adrián & Gutiérrez-Mangado, 2022).  Also, no studies have tackled the interplay between gender-pairings and age/proficiency in LRE production amongst young learners. To fill this gap, the study involved CLIL learners aged 9–11 who worked in same- and mixed-gender dyads to complete an oral picture-based narrative task.  The LREs were analysed based on the amount, nature (meaning vs form) and resolution (target-like, non-target-like or unresolved). The preliminary results indicate that same-gender dyads seem to outperform mixed-gender pairs in both groups as they produce more LREs. Also, as age/proficiency increases, same-gender dyads tend to produce more target-like LREs. Thus, despite significant proficiency differences between both groups, the tendency towards working better in matched-gender pairs seems to persist throughout middle childhood

    The Spanish Academic Collocation List

    Get PDF
Phraseology plays a crucial role in academic texts, with collocation use key to demonstrating high competence in academic writing. Even for native speakers with limited experience in academic genres, academic collocations present challenges. Despite their importance, however, no sufficiently representative repertoire of academic collocations in Spanish has been developed as a resource for students, similar to those available for academic English. To address this gap, this article proposes a reference list of academic collocations in Spanish, designed for integrated in an academic writing tool and as a support for Spanish for Academic Purposes. Collocations were extracted from an academic corpus using NLP techniques and applying frequency and distribution criteria and Universal Dependency parsing. The resulting list was manually validated to ensure it includes useful collocations for Spanish students across various academic fields

Architecture has been an integral part of theatrical and cinematic scenography since its inception. The setting of a story is a crucial element in conveying to the audience the atmosphere, as well as the geographical, political, and social context in which events unfold. This research explores the remarkable use of architecture in the acclaimed animated film Spirited Away, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, to effectively convey a message. Through an analysis of all the architectural elements featured in the film, it is revealed how these structures are deeply intertwined with the narrative and characters, serving as a powerful cinematic tool.

Optimization location routing problem (LRP) of humanitarian aid distribution in Sigi district using NSGA II methods

    Get PDF
Disasters are events that disturb and threaten people’s lives caused by nature or/and non-natural factors as well as human factors that cause casualties and economic losses. Since the 1950s, the number and scale of major natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones, floods, volcanoes, etc. have grown exponentially (Hu & Dong, 2019). The polemic of uneven assistance and delays in the event of a natural disaster is the most common thing that occurs during a natural disaster. Location Routing Problem is a continuation of the classical routing problem that combines strategic and operational decisions with the facility location problem and the vehicle routing problem. This study aims to determine the location of the distribution center construction and the optimal route using the NSGA II methods with the objective function of minimizing total costs and minimization of maximum travelling time for the distribution of humanitarian aid in the 2018 natural disaster in Sigi Regency. Optimization is designed into two scenarios, namely the construction of two distribution centers and three distribution centers. The result show that construction of two distribution centers can be designed at locations D3 and D4 with a total cost of IDR406 280 000 and a maximum service time of 12.002 hours, while the construction of three distribution centers can be done at locations DC1, DC4 and DC 7 or with a total cost of IDR605 363 000 and a maximum service time of 7.4253 hours. This research develops a new mathematical model that optimizes humanitarian aid distribution by balancing the setup cost of distribution centers and minimizing travel time. It utilizes the NSGA-II algorithm for multi-objective optimization and the Displaced Ideal Solution (DIS) method to select the best solution from the Pareto front

Fast orbital convergence reveals more hypercyclic vectors

    Get PDF
Let X be an infinite dimensional separable Banach space, T : X → X be a hypercyclic operator, and x ∈ X be a (frequently) hypercyclic vector of T. We show that if the terms from the T-orbit of x converge to a vector y sufficiently fast, then y is also a hypercyclic vector of T. As a corollary, we deduce that if T is a frequently hypercyclic operator with spectral radius r(T) = 1, then lim_{n\to \infty} ∥Tnx∥^{1/n} = 1 for every frequently hypercyclic vector x of T. Some related observations are also made

    Get PDF
Optimisation is a subject that appears in practically all the syllabuses of the first coursesin engineering. Moreover, the optimisation of physical systems is a key part of the use ofthe same in engineering. In this article we want to solve the physical problem of finding theHelmholtz resonator with the smallest possible volume and the lowest possible characteristicfrequency fR. In this way, we have a mathematical problem with a physical meaning, forwhich students are also familiar with the traditional methods based on the gradient of thefunction and the study of the Hessian. We will take advantage of this known context toapproach the problem using the Artificial Intelligence technique known as Reinforcement Learning, which may pave the way for its understanding by the students. The examplegiven here would correspond to a postgraduate level.

Exploring rabbit semen cryopreservation and the crucial role of cryobank: unveiling advantages and promising perspectives

    Get PDF
Over the years, efforts have been made to establish a reference protocol for the first Italian rabbit semen bank. Here, we will provide an overview of our group’s key discoveries, which have led us to identify an effective freezing protocol for rabbit semen. However, a drawback of our protocol involves diluting the semen with the freezing media at fixed dilution ratios, resulting in significant variability in the sperm number per straw. Addressing this limitation underscores the need to standardise the freezing protocol by investigating the effect of sperm concentrations within straws on the reproductive performances of cryopreserved rabbit semen. In this regard, in an in vivo trial, 192 multiparous receptive rabbit does were randomly assigned to six treatment groups, including a control group. The remaining groups were inseminated with doses containing 15, 25, 35, 55 and 75×106 sperm, respectively. Sperm concentrations of 25, 35 and 55×106/straw exhibited higher reproductive performances compared to other tested concentrations and were akin to fresh semen. Through the adoption of freezing protocols with standardised sperm concentrations, cryobanks can safely preserve rabbit population genetic resources, offering invaluable support for future breeding and research efforts

This article investigates the representation of the animal and the human-animal relationship in Marona’s Fantastic Tale (Anca Damian, 2019). After considering the traces of the animal turn in the audiovisual in general and within the realm of animation in particular, we proceed to the study of the motion picture guided by the methodology of film analysis and attending to animation’s unique aesthetics. We first connect the type of protagonism that the film grants to the dog with the weak anthropomorphization to which the character is subjected. Next, we evaluate the resources that contribute to put us in the dog's shoes, highlighting the sensorialization and somatization of the discourse. Next, we examine the portrayal of the human characters and emphasize the intersubjective propensity of the protagonist. Finally, the conclusions highlight the synergies between the experimental formal proposal and the animalistic message of the film.

In the last decade, Japanese commercial animation has been marked by the rise and success of isekai. An anime sub-genre whose main characteristic is to transport its protagonists to alternative worlds. The creation of these other worlds is clearly inspired by fantasy MMORPG videogames since these universes operate on similar logics to those of videogames. However, if the isekai is nourished by MMORPGs, are these productions capable of explaining to us what these videogames are? This article examines how the anime Log Horizon (Touno, 2013) describes to the viewer what fantasy MMORPGs are, how they operate and what are the characteristics of MMORPGs. Furthermore, it allows us to observe how MMORPG videogames are integrated as a resource in anime inventiveness and their components are transformed into narrative and visual resources. To this purpose, we analyse the narrative-visual content of the 25 episodes that make up the first season of Log Horizon (Ishihara, 2013-2014).En la última década, la animación comercial japonesa se ha visto marcada por el ascenso y éxito del isekai.
