Shah Alam sustainable urban transport index
No full textThe report provides an overview of exiting state of urban public transport system in Shah Alam city, Malaysia and city’s efforts to improve urban public transport system. It then assess sustainability of the public transport system of Shah Alam city using the ten indicators of the Sustainable Urban Transport Index (SUTI) developed by ESCAP. The SUTI assessment with value of 42.64 for Shah Alam suggests that the city is doing good in some indicators and need to improve others. Some policy actions need to be taken with regards to improve accessibility and mode share of public transport, improve road safety, recover operation cost of transport operations, and improve air quality and reduce GHG emissions from transport. The reports offers policy recommendations to improve overall sustainability of urban public transport system in Shah Alam city. </p
Tracking E-Resilience in North and Central Asia
No full textESCAP secretariat updated its E-Resilience Dashboard in Power BI format in 2023 (published in 2023) to assess crisis preparedness through seamless digital connectivity to promote a digital policy environment, and respond to recommendations of the SPECA Working Group on Innovation and Technology for Sustainable Development (2020, 2021, 2022). This working paper series presents an analysis of data to brief policy implementation, assessed in 2020-2022 in the six economies of North and Central Asia (NCA), namely e-resilience profiles of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Each country has a different level of ICT infrastructure development, and each has its own strengths and challenges in the performance of each of the 5 pillars in 2022. Opportunities for collaboration in this regard are highlighted in respective sections.</p

Workshop on Integration of Urban Public Transport Systems and Digital Technologies held in Tashkent,
Uzbekistan on 5 and 6 June 2024.Bukhara with population of 290,000 is a historical city in Uzbekistan and holds the distinction of being one of the oldest cities in Central Asia and serves as the administrative center, situated in the southeast of the Bukhara region.
The report provides analysis of current urban public transport situation in Bukhara using the Sustainable Urban Transport Index (SUTI). Lack of public transport data, availability of reports and comprehensive public transport plan was some of the challenges faced during the study. This assessment t provides a comprehensive analysis of the city's urban transport system, focusing on the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement based on available information. The SUTI Aggregate Score for Bukhara is 37.64 and is considered a low value. Development of a comprehensive public transport master plan, investing in public transport, improving quality and reliability of public transport and improving air quality are some the weakness identified. The city was currently developing a transport master plan, its gradual implementation will improve sustainability and reliability of public transport systems.
Improvement in overall public transport planning, infrastructure for active mobility (walking and cycling), improving accessibility by planning more public transport routes. More efforts are required to generate transport data required to improve public transport. In this regard, it is recommended:
- Conduct periodic (once in 3 - 5 years) social users perception survey to study modal share and quality and reliability of public transport.
- A more detailed study of the tasks laid down in the master plan, the designation of targets that will need to be achieved during the implementation of the transport master plan.
- Pay more attention to pedestrian infrastructure, making it more comfortable.
- Revise some bus routes with a higher coefficient of non-linearity, which in turn will reduce the time of flights, and increase the turnover of vehicles.
- Given the lack of access to rail transport, it is necessary to consider the possibility of launching an express route from the historical part of the city to the airport and railway station in the city of Kagan, with rolling stock that allows you to transport luggage.
- It is necessary to install automatic stations for measuring the level of air quality, PM10.
By focusing on these areas, Bukhara can develop a more sustainable, inclusive, efficient, and user-friendly urban public transport system and significantly enhance the quality of life for its residents.</p
