Promoting ocean-based solutions to climate change through enhanced cooperation in science, research, and innovation
As a key regulator of climate and weather, the ocean plays a crucial role in the Earth’s climate system. The IPCC Reports demonstrate the impacts of climate change on the ocean. While severely affected by human activities, the ocean moderates the climate by taking up over a quarter of global CO2 emissions annually; it provides a range of solutions to climate change mitigation and adaptation and to enhance resilience. Such solutions include, carbon sequestration, which could provide approximately one-fifth of the carbon mitigation needed to meet the Paris Agreement goals by 2050, reducing global greenhouse gas emissions by up to 4 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2030 and up to 11 billion tons in 2050. G20 members are encouraged to identify common areas of cooperation and investments in ocean science, marine technology, and innovation that are necessary for an enhanced understanding of the ocean-climate nexus. This report was funded by ESCAP, in coordination with Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)
and NDC Partnership (NDCP).Acknowledgments iii

RECIPRO: CITY. Issue No. 07
RECIPRO-CITY Issue No. 07 celebrates five years of the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform, a collaborative initiative by UNESCAP, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and CityNet to promote sustainable urban development through knowledge sharing and city-to-city cooperation. This edition highlights the launch of free SDG online courses for technical officers, the SDG Awards Ceremony at the 9th CityNet Congress recognizing innovative and replicable urban practices, and tools like the SDG Navigator and Localization Toolkit to help cities assess progress and adapt best practices. Key award winners include Kuala Lumpur’s SDG Centre, Seberang Perai’s agro-eco tourism project, and Seoul’s AI-based sewage pipeline defect detection system, showcasing impactful strategies for localizing the 2030 Agenda
