The danger of GLOFs varies globally, however in 2020, GLOFs threatened 15 million people. Writing cell memory: how Histones play a role in Epigenetic Memory
Our cells remember their cell type-specific functions during their lifetime using modifications on histones, the proteins packaging DNA. Such epigenetic memory is challenged during DNA replication when histones are evicted from DNA. We reveal new evidence that cells recycle histones H2A-H2B to replicated DNA with their modifications, hereby providing epigenetic memory across cell division

HIV pushes the nuclear envelope to start an infection
Retroviruses like HIV-1 enter the nucleus of immune cells to infect people, but it has been unclear how a relatively large virus can pass through the nuclear envelope or its small nuclear pores. We found a previously unknown pathway of entry, in which a virus-containing package causes invaginations to form in the nuclear envelope. Our work reveals new drug targets for limiting viral infections
Gas in distant galaxies: mixed or matched?
Gas is an essential ingredient of galaxies because it fuels star and planet formation. Studying this gas is important because it tells us how galaxies form, evolve, and interact with their environment. In this work we studied 64 small, distant galaxies and found that the gas is not well-mixed which tells us how it is moving in, out and around the galaxies
Likely increase in coral thermal tolerance at a Pacific archipelago
Over the coming decades, reef-building corals will face ever hotter ocean temperatures, yet it remains unknown if their thermal tolerance can keep up with the pace of warming. A new study reveals that coral thermal tolerance in Palau has likely risen by 0.1 °C/decade since the late 1980s. Despite this ecological resilience, strong action on climate change remains a priority to protect coral reefs
Earth’s large lakes are shrinking

Retour d’expérience de ma participation à la conférence iPRES22
Organisée par la Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), la 18ème conférence internationale sur la préservation numérique (iPRES) a eu lieu à Glasgow, en Écosse, du 12 au 16 septembre 2022. Cette édition correspond également au 20ème anniversaire du DPC, une organisation ancrée à Glasgow, qui a voulu de ce fait accueillir des participants du monde entier dans leur ville. Le résultat a été une conférence hybride avec 649 participants qui se sont joints en personne (437) et en ligne (212)
