Fa‘asāmoa Forever – The Sacred Circle. The Politics of Encompassment and Consensus
No full textThis article examines the remarkable permanence of fa‘asāmoa, Sāmoan custom, throughout the upheavals of history. The strength of this permanence lies in a particular configuration of what brings the community together at meetings when an important decision has to be taken: an equality of positions in the community circle where everyone faces one another, in the sense that everyone is seated at the same level. But this equality is maintained by a bond of higher value, sometimes called the ‘country’, ‘custom’ or even ‘God’. This is what the Sāmoans call the ‘sacred circle’. Each time, this hierarchy of references makes it possible to find a way not to ignore but to position the conflict at an ‘encompassed’ level, leaving the community value at the ‘encompassing’ level. The article describes how this works through historical examples, from German colonization via the construction of independence in the 1960s to the latest national elections in 2021, which saw fierce competition between two political parties, as well as considering the way in which consensus is favoured over majority voting

No full textThis article aims at studying the theology of the Holy Spirit considering the two personal names of Gift and Love, taking as a starting point the Sentences of Peter Lombard to subsequently arrive at the proposal of Bonaventure. Lombard reveals himself as a faithful disciple of Augustine, from whom however he takes his distance, proposing the recognition in every created love of the effective presence of the Trinity. Bonaventure on the other hand, in the light of a more complex and organic theology and in full respect of the axiom on the indivisible action of God ad extra, gives importance to the exemplary causality, indicating it, in some aspects, as belonging to the same person of the Spirit. These conclusions however do not appear in line with other traits of his theological thought, wherein the exemplary cause of the whole of creation is the Word.L’articolo intende studiare la teologia dei due nomi dello Spirito Santo, Dono e Amore, partendo dalle Sentenze di Pietro Lombardo per giungere alla proposta bonaventuriana. Il Lombardo si rivela fedele discepolo di Agostino, da cui si scosta proponendo di riconoscere, in ogni amore creato, la presenza effettiva della terza persona della Trinità. Bonaventura, alla luce di una teologia più complessa e organica, nel pieno rispetto dell’assioma sull’indivisibilità dell’azione ad extra di Dio, valorizza invece la causalità esemplare, indicandola, per alcuni aspetti, come propria della persona dello Spirito. L’esito, tuttavia, appare non componibile con altri tratti del suo pensiero teologico, dove è il Verbo la causa esemplare di tutta la creazione
Enipostasia: Proposta per una verifica del concetto
No full textThe history of theology contains a speculative richness which continues to merit renewed attention: the concept of enhypostasis is an excellent example of this. This intuition wishes to deduce the way in which Jesus the man exists as God’s revelation, the incarnate Word. In the area of christological studies, the term’s vicissitudes denote both dependence and protrusion in relation to the context in which it was coined and the people by whom it was employed. The modern discussion on the classical Chalcedonian arrangementwithin which the term was formed gives new life to the underlying idea under examination. The idea is here re-evaluated, putting in order not only the ancient and modern lexes but also the trinitarian and christological registers in which it can be operated.La storia della teologia custodisce una ricchezza speculativa che merita sempre nuova attenzione: il concetto di enipostasia ne è ottimo esempio. Quest’intuizione vuole argomentare il modo in cui l’uomo Gesù esiste in quanto rivelazione di Dio, Verbo incarnato. Nell’ambito dello studio cristologico, le vicende del termine segnano dipendenza e sporgenza rispetto al contesto che l’ha prodotto ed a quelli che l’hanno utilizzato. La moderna discussione del classico assetto calcedonese entro cui prese forma promette nuova vitalità per l’idea in esame, della quale si propone una rinnovata stima mettendo ordine tra il lessico antico e moderno, nonché tra i registri trinitario e cristologico nei quali può venir adoperato
