This study aims to evaluate the mean scores of patient satisfaction ratings at acute care hospitals in The State of Maryland to determine if hospitals\u27 characteristics influence inpatient care experience under a global payment model. The study data was obtained from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) website and the American Hospital Directory (AHD). The study design is cross-sectional using secondary datasets. A multivariate analysis of variance was performed to analyze the study\u27s main variables. Dimensions of patient satisfaction (nurse communication, doctor communication, hospital rating, and willingness to recommend the hospital) were analyzed as dependent variables. For hospital characteristics, hospital type (teaching status, region, and emergency room) was considered an influencer of patient perceptions under a global payment model in Maryland. Hospitals located in central and southern Maryland were significantly associated with nurse communication.https://ouscholars.oakwood.edu/business_information_systems/1000/thumbnail.jp

Chandra Lynn, also known as Chandra T. Mountain, is Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and Professor of English at Oakwood University. Though much of the writing she does these days is “scholarly and serious,” she has been writing almost her entire life. The proof is in the trove of notebooks and millions (slight exaggeration) of poems and drafts her husband “discovered” a few years ago. The poem above was written when she was 18; it is part of a collection she is curating entitled, Musings from My Younger Self.https://ouscholars.oakwood.edu/english_foreignlanguages/1000/thumbnail.jp
