Gücün Aynası Yahut Taklidi: Prusya Kralı Büyük Friedrich’in Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’na Gönderdiği Mektuplarda Vurguladığı Nüfuz Alanları
One of the practices of international diplomacy in the early modern period was enumerating the localities ruled and/or claimed by the rulers in the letters sent to other states in order to point out that the exercise of power relies on God’s grace (divine right). This practice, which finds its reflex in many languages, was widely used from the 15th century until the 19th century by both Christian and Muslim states. This article examines the question of whether the Ottoman-Prussian diplomatic relations, which became tenser in the second half of the 18th century, reflected this practice in relevant diplomatic documents. To consider this, five letters of Frederick the Great, who made the Prussian state one of the great powers of Europe, addressed to the Sublime Porte between 1758 and 1762 in Latin, which includ-ed the above practice as a continuation of its historical course have been analyzed. Moreover, the localities enumerated in the letters are compared in terms of area and population using the demographic data of the Ottoman Empire and contemporary German sources on historical geography. © 2023, Istanbul 29 Mayis University - ISAM, TDV Centre for Islamic Studies. Trade Relations between Turkey and Germany from 1923 to 1939 according to the Turkish Archive Documents: War, Crisis and Agreements br
Although the relations between Germany and Turkey were interrupted due to the results of the First World War, negotiations were started for friendship and trade agreements between these two war allies immediately after the establishment of the Turkish Republic. In this article, the trade relations between Turkey and Germany between 1923 and 1939 were examined by analyzing the post-war period, the Great Depression, temporary (modus vivendi) and main trade treaties, clearing agreements, and the Berlin Turkish Chamber of Commerce activities. This article analyses the development of commercial relations between Turkey and Germany between 1923 and 1939 by using the documents obtained from the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey Directorate of State Archives' Republican Archives and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Turkish Diplomatic Archives
Rudolf von Jhering's understanding of law as a mean to an end
Rudolf von Jhering is an important legal philosopher who influenced legal thought in 19th century Germany. His legal thought which was formed by adopting the views of Historian Law School evolved into a purposive, pragmatic and combative perspective over time. Jhering wrote his work named Zweck im Recht (The Purpose of Law) within the framework of these approaches to law. With this work, the author served as a bridge to the formation of the Interest Law School in Germany. Questioning the purpose for which law was formed, what the source of law was, what its existence served and centering on the society, Jhering directed his purposive approach to the state, society, individual and morality, starting from law. This thesis discusses Rudolf von Jhering's understanding of law through his aforementioned work, the commonality of his contemporaries' views on the concept of law and the purpose of law, and the effects of Jhering on German and world legal history and philosophy through his approaches that make him different from these thinkers
Finite element-based p-y curves in sand
P-y curves are used in the prediction of non-linear soil resistance resulting from the horizontal pile movement. Many of the p-y curves have been developed in the 1970s for the petroleum industry to predict the horizontal capacity of piles supporting oil platforms. These curves are based on the beam theory fed by strain-gauge data installed on several full-size pile tests. In this particular study, a p-y curve formula for sand was developed using 34 finite element combinations. The p-y curve formula includes the input of soil modulus, soil friction angle, soil unit weight and pile diameter. The results of the formula and the finite element program were validated against the test data available in the literature
Alman, İsviçre ve Avusturya medenî usûl hukukunda yüzyıl içindeki gelişmeler ve Türk hukukuna etkisi
"Hakimiyet-i milliyeye müstenit bilakaydüşart müstakil bir Türk Devleti"!
Responsibly shaping technology innovation for the energy transition: an RRI indicator system as a tool
Efforts to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions have had limited success. For many, the hopes rest on new energy innovations to advance the energy transition process. In this paper, we develop a Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) base indicator system to steer the design of innovations in the field of energy transition innovations and, thus, improve social acceptance of these innovations. We propose a guideline for its application to assist R&D performing organizations and funding organizations in the design, selection, and communication of research proposals. The indicator system is intended to promote early integration of environmental and social aspects, support the formation of teams aware of the different responsibility aspects of innovation, and monitor progress in regard to relevant RRI dimensions.Bundesministerium fr Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (BMWK) [FKZ: 03EI5206]This study was supported by Bundesministerium fur Wirtschaftund Klimaschutz (BMWK) FKZ: 03EI5206(A/B/C).r This study was supported by Bundesministerium fur Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (BMWK) FKZ: 03EI5206(A/B/C)
Scaling and Evolution of Stellar Magnetic Activity
Magnetic activity is a ubiquitous feature of stars with convective outer layers, with implications from stellar evolution to planetary atmospheres. Investigating the mechanisms responsible for the observed stellar activity signals from days to billions of years is important in deepening our understanding of the spatial configurations and temporal patterns of stellar dynamos, including that of the Sun. In this paper, we focus on three problems and their possible solutions. We start with direct field measurements and show how they probe the dependence of magnetic flux and its density on stellar properties and activity indicators. Next, we review the current state-of-the-art in physics-based models of photospheric activity patterns and their variation from rotational to activity-cycle timescales. We then outline the current state of understanding in the long-term evolution of stellar dynamos, first by using chromospheric and coronal activity diagnostics, then with model-based implications on magnetic braking, which is the key mechanism by which stars spin down and become inactive as they age. We conclude by discussing possible directions to improve the modeling and analysis of stellar magnetic fields. This review was written following the workshop Solar and Stellar Dynamos: A New Era, hosted and supported by the International Space Science Institute (ISSI) in Bern, Switzerland.
