    Get PDF
Despite influencer marketing being among the most popular digital marketing tools in practice, there are still many research gaps, especially when it comes to specific influencer types. Though technology is converging worldwide, the perception of social influencers may differ between cultures. In this study, a model of influencer characteristics is applied to cases of sustainable and regular products. The optimal influencer for German and Turkish consumers is investigated via a discrete choice experiment (DCE). Findingssuggest that female influencers are preferred over male influencers, and trustworthiness is especially required for promoting sustainable products, regardless of the respondent’sinvolvement forsustainability. For German consumers, attractiveness plays a larger role than for Turkish consumers, who prefer high levels of trustworthiness and expertise. The applicability of this methodology for larger studies with multi-country samples is discussed

Bunu yaparken, bu bağlamda henüz ele alınmamış bir araştırma alanına, „New Work“, perspektifine odaklanılmaktadır. Multinational companies transfer their practices to their subsidiaries in other countries. This raises the question of what kind of strategy they want to pursue and are able to implement. This includes, for example, standardizing practices or adapting them to the local culture and needs. Intercultural transfer has already been extensively researched, but mostly on the basis of pigeonhole thinking based on national cultures and with a focus on challenges. A constructive, intercultural research approach therefore makes it possible to discover best practices and derive valuable implications for research and practice. The aim of this thesis is to find out which factors contribute to a successful intercultural transfer process. In doing so, the focus is placed on a perspective of „New Work“ within a comprehensively researched area that has not yet been dealt with in this context. To this end, a qualitative case study was conducted. A multinational technology company headquartered in Germany and known worldwide for its innovations and corporate culture was selected as the object of investigation. Expert interviews were conducted with a diverse sampling, mainly with a human resources function from the Turkish subsidiary and German companies, but also with other functions and locations. The results of the study showed that visionary leaders and human resource management, as well as the selection of employees who fit the culture, a globally shared learning culture, employee development, transparent dialogues in global corporate networks, openness to best practices and travel of ideas, and a balance between localization and globalization are the success factors that contribute to a successful intercultural transfer of „New Work“Multinationale Unternehmen transferieren ihre Praktiken zu ihren Tochtergesellschaften in anderen Ländern.

SARS-CoV-2 is a highly transmissible coronavirus and has caused a pandemic of acute respiratory disease. Genomic characterization of SARS-CoV-2 is important for monitoring and assessing its evolution. A total of 1.346 nasopharyngeal swab samples were collected but only 879 SARS-CoV-2 high-quality genomes were isolated, subjected to Next Generation Sequencing and analyzed both statistically and regarding mutations comprehensively. The distribution of clades and lineages in different cities of T & uuml;rkiye and the association of SARS-CoV-2 variants with age groups and clinical characteristics of COVID-19 were also examined. Furthermore, the frequency of the clades and lineages was observed in 10 months. Finally, non-synonymous mutations not defined in specific SARS-CoV-2 variants (during that period) were identified by performing mutation analysis. B.1.1.7 (Alpha) and B.1.617.2 (Delta) SARS-CoV-2 variants which have also been identified in our study from March to December 2021. We observed a significant association of SARS-CoV-2 variants with age groups and cities. Also, E:T9I, S:A27S, S:A67V, S:D796Y, S:K417N, S:N440K, S:R158X, S:S477N (below 1%-frequency) were determined as specific mutations belonging and shared with the Omicron variant that appeared later. Our study has highlighted the importance of constant monitoring of the genetic diversity of SARS-CoV-2 to provide better prevention strategies and it contributes to the understanding of SARS-CoV-2 from the past to the present.University of Health Sciences, Scientific Research Project Unit [2020/130]This work was supported by the University of Health Sciences, Scientific Research Project Unit [Grant Number: 2020/130]

    No full text
In comparison to German law, appeals are still young in Turkey. In Turkey, the courts of appeal only began operating in 2016. There are significant differencesbetween the Turkish and German appeal systems, particularly with regard to the scopeof the search for the truth. The extent to which the Turkish and German appellatecourts are authorized to review first-instance judgments and the point at which newfacts should be admissible on appeal are key questions in this study. The Germanappellate system with its long history will help to answer these questions in Turkish law

This master's thesis analyses the challenges of cultural differences in internationalised business enterprises, which can lead to critical incidents due to cultural misunderstandings. A particular focus is placed on cultural misunderstandings in the context of German-Turkish business relationships. Boundary spanners in this context act as key players in promoting intercultural synergies in a German-Turkish business relationship. "Intercultural synergy" refers to the successful combination and co- operation of people from different cultures. This includes, for example, improved communication, jointly developed creative solutions and increased efficiency resulting from the synergy of different cultural perspectives and competences. The analysis was carried out based on two companies. Bakova GmbH (in Germany) and Yildirim sole proprietorship (in Turkey) have a 15-year business relationship. Both companies are characterised by the culture of their respective countries, and the differences harbour the potential for potential problems and challenges. The social and cultural phenomena between the companies were analysed using autoethnography, a qualitative research method. By describing concrete examples from the personal experience of the author, who also acts as a boundary spanner between the companies, these phenomena were described in detail. Based on the experience of the author, the case studies were prepared and analysed on the basis of relevant literature sources. This master's thesis shows that cultural differences can be constructively overcome with the help of a boundary spanners to enable effective cooperation and create intercultural synergy

Modification of open-cell cast aluminum-silicon foams with strontium

    No full text
The mechanical properties of open-cell aluminum foams can be influenced by enhancing the microstructure of the struts. The foams produced by investment casting face slow cooling rates, which makes it challenging to improve the morphology of the phases. In the case of aluminum silicon cast foams, the silicon phase accumulates on the surface of the struts, which leads to brittle fractures. In the present study, we successfully modified the silicon phase in open-cell AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg cast foams by adding strontium and investigated the influence of the strontium content on the microstructure and mechanical properties at the foam and strut levels. Despite the cooling rates of less than 0.5 ?C/s during solidification, the strontium addition of 200–800 ppm effectively decreased the size of the silicon particles and improved their distribution in the micrometer-sized struts. Improvements in the compressive properties of the foams and the tensile properties of the struts only occurred at the strontium levels of 200 and 400 ppm. The effective modification in this casting condition is due to the limited solidification space, which favors the formation of the atomic clusters responsible for the modificatio

    Gender effect on relative concerns

    Get PDF
This thesis investigates whether there is a gender difference on the relative income effect, evaluated using subjective well-being data as a proxy for individual utility. The data set we use is a cross section of SOEP (the Socio-Economic Panel) of Germany collected during the last decade (2010-2019). We estimate subjective well-being regressions in which we control for the absolute level of income, relative level of income, as well as other determinants of well-being including age, years of education, family variables among others. We split the data in two parts by gender. Then, we analyze how females and males compare their income with other females and males. Our result suggest that females compare more with females compared to what they do with other comparable males. However, males compare more with other males, but they do not compare with other females. Overall, we conclude that males are more affected by income comparisons than that of females. This information should be used more in welfare related public policies

Rational designing and prospecting iron-based compounds as efficient host materials for lithium-sulfur batteries

Known for its high theoretical capacity and low cost, the commercialization of Li-S batteries is hindered by the notorious shuttle behavior of the intermediate lithium polysulfides in liquid electrolyte and the sluggish kinetics of the liquid-to-solid reaction. Recently, to improve the electrochemical performance, iron-based compounds with well-designed nano- structures have been developed and applied as host material for sulfur because they have strong chemisorption of polar polysulfide molecules and could reduce the nucleation energy of solid Li2S. 2 S. Here, we have reviewed the latest research progresses (in the last three years) of various iron-based compounds as sulfur host materials and prospected the designing principles of efficient host materials with multiple functionalities to address the issues in sulfur cathode.Sino German (CSC-DAAD) Postdoc Scholarship Program [57678375]Acknowledgements Dr. Qingping Wu is grateful for financial support pro-vided by the Sino German (CSC-DAAD) Postdoc Scholarship Program (57678375)

Enhanced interface structure of electroformed copper/diamond composites for thermal management applications

    No full text
As the power density of electronic devices increases, the requirement for heat sinks with enhanced thermal properties becomes imperative for advanced heat dissipation. Copper/diamond composites are next-generation heat dissipators with high thermal conductivities, yet fabrication of these composites requires high energy and complex instruments. In this study, copper/diamond composites are fabricated by electroforming. The sediment co-deposition process is modified to obtain uniform diamond particle distribution with tailorable volume fraction. Diamond particles were initially settled on the cathode surface outside the electrolyte, and then the setup was immersed in an acidic copper sulfate electroforming bath. Varying amounts (0-100 mg l(-1)) of thiourea are introduced to the electrolyte to enhance the matrix-particle interface. The gaps between diamond particles are filled with electrodeposited copper using optimized deposition conditions. The composite structure detaches from the cathode by itself after the production with desired shape and dimensions. The effect of operating conditions on cathodic polarization, composite microstructure, and thermal properties are investigated. Thermal conductivity of 49 vol.% diamond containing sample fabricated with optimized parameters exceeds 667 W m(-1) K-1. The increase in thermal conductivity and enhanced interface structure is attributed to the excellent void-filling ability of the optimized electrolyte.Scientific Research Projects Department of Istanbul Technical University; Research Laboratories Application and Research Center (ALUAM)The authors would like to thank Turkish-German University, Research Laboratories Application and Research Center (ALUAM) for the support given for the characterization of the samples
