The Stimulative Effects of Anticipated Government Spending Expansions : Evidence from Survey Forecasts

    No full text
We employ a maximum forecast error variance VAR identification strategy to examine the effects of anticipated government spending expansions. In our post-1981 U.S. sample, an anticipated expansion in government spending is delayed and persistent. This expansion is associated with increases in consumption and investment, as well as in real wages and hours. It also has an accelerator effect on private capital investment and a delayed stimulative effect on private sector productivity. Moreover, the monetary and tax policies accompanying the anticipated government spending expansion align well with the Fedʼs dual mandate and with less progressive federal tax reforms, respectively

Our paper is describing the brief history of data DX in the field of Japan’s economic history since c.1980s which covers all phases of data DX from the reading primary historical text into printed data, then transforming these printed data to machine readable data by scanning and using OCR technology and then in some cases making their data-base, finally making machine acceptable data to analyze successfully them using statistical software. We must pay attention to each stage of the data digital transforming to develop our own historical research. At the same time, avoiding making most students of history become just end-user of these historical data, we reconstruct new type of historical research using both primary historical source/document and digital transformed data in the special reference to some big historical events happened in the earl modern Japan’s economic history.

    No full text

April 10th, 2024This study explores the career destinations of Asian students who obtained their Ph.D. degrees in the United States or the United Kingdom. Utilizing a unique dataset comprising the educational and career profiles of over 650 individuals from Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, and China who completed their Ph.D. between 1986 and 2015, we found that: (1) mobility trends significantly vary by origin, with those sponsored by their home countries more inclined to return post-graduation; (2) recipients of Ph.D. degrees in the U.S. show a lower propensity to return to their home countries compared to their counterparts in the U.K.; and (3) aside from the U.S., countries financing their citizens' education abroad generally achieve social returns on their investment, aligning with the traditional human capital hypothesis
