Teacher Evaluation as a Function of the Students' Sex and Achievement Level
Get PDFThis study was designed to determine how the ratingsof a college teacher were influenced by the sex and achievement levelof the students. Sixty-seven male and 73 female undergraduates wereused in the main analyses, with an additional 72 subjects insubsidiary analyses. During the first week of the course subjectswere asked to rate themselves, father, mother,and the instructor inthe course on the Michill Adjective Rating Scale (MAILS) whichmeasures four relatively independent factors (unhappiness,extraversion, self-assertiveness, and productive persistence). Theyalso rated themselves and the instructor on the same scale near theend of the course, rated the instructor on the Rating Scale forTeachers pm consisting of 17 itmes dealing with aspects of ateacher's job and personality, and took five teacher-made achievementtests during the semester. Students were separated into high and lowachievement levels, using the median of the cutoff. Two-waymultivariate analysis showed significant differences in teacherratings on MARS and RST factors between the sexes and between highand low achievement level subjects. Also, significant sex and
achievement level interaction was found for the RST data

Positive Stress and Reflective Practice Among Entrepreneurs
Get PDFWhile heavy stress loads seem an unavoidable aspect of entrepreneurship, the
positive side of stress (often referred to as ‘eustress’) remains a neglected area of
research. This paper contributes to entrepreneurship research by linking the research
streams of eustress and reflective practice. As a tool for analysing and developing
thoughts and actions, reflective practice plays an important role in the interpretative
work essential to positive stress experiences. Following an overview of approaches to
stress at work, eustress and reflective practice, the paper explores how entrepreneurs
experience the role of positive stress and reflective practice in their work and
describes the reflective tools utilized by entrepreneurs in promoting eustress. The
research process was designed to support reflective dialogue among the 21 Finnish
entrepreneurs from different fields who participated in the study, with results based
mainly on qualitative interviews. Nine of the interviewed entrepreneurs also kept
a positive stress diary, including a three-day physiological measurement analysing
their heartbeat variability. The findings suggest that positive stress and reflective
practice are intertwined in the experiences of entrepreneurs and illustrate the role
of reflective practice as a crucial toolset for promoting positive stress, comprising
six reflective tools: studying oneself, changing one’s point of view, putting things
into perspective, harnessing a feeling of trust, regulating resources and engaging
in dialogue. Individual reflective capabilities vary, and a theory-driven division of
reflective practice into individual, social and contextual dimensions is considered
useful in understanding those differences. The research offers a starting point for
exploring how eustress and reflective practice affect the well-being of entrepreneurs.Choć duże obciążenie stresem jest nieuniknionym aspektem przedsiębiorczości, pozytywna
strona stresu (często określane jako eustres) pozostaje zaniedbaną dziedziną
badań. Niniejsza praca jest wkładem w badania w zakresie przedsiębiorczości poprzez
łączenie strumieni badań nad eustresem z praktyką refleksyjną. Jako narzędzie
do analizy i rozwoju myśli i działań, praktyka refleksyjna odgrywa ważną rolę w pracy
interpretacyjnej niezbędnej dla pozytywnych doświadczeń ze stresem. Po przeglądzie
podejść do stresu w pracy, eustresu i refleksyjnej praktyki, praca ta bada jak przedsiębiorcy postrzegają rolę pozytywnego stresu i praktyki refleksyjnej w pracy oraz opisuje
narzędzia refleksyjne wykorzystywane przez przedsiębiorców, sprzyjające eustresowi.
Proces badawczy został zaprojektowany w sposób wspierający dialog refleksyjny
między 21 fińskimi przedsiębiorcami różnych branż, którzy wzięli udział w badaniu,
opartym głównie na wywiadach jakościowych. Dziewięciu z badanych przedsiębiorców
prowadziło również dziennik pozytywnego stresu, w tym trzydniowy pomiaru fizjologiczny,
analizując zmienność pulsu. Wyniki sugerują, że pozytywny stres i praktyka
refleksyjna przeplatają się z doświadczeniami przedsiębiorców oraz ilustrują rolę
praktyki refleksyjnej jako kluczowego zestawu instrumentów do promowania pozytywnego
stresu, składającego się z sześciu narzędzi refleksyjnych: samopoznawania,
zmieniania punktu widzenia, spojrzenia perspektywicznego, wykorzystania poczucia
zaufania, kontroli zasobów osobistych oraz podjęcia dialogu. Indywidualne zdolności
refleksyjne są różne i podział praktyki refleksyjnej, w oparciu o teorię, na wymiar indywidualny,
społeczny i kontekstowy uważa się za przydatny w zrozumieniu tych różnic. Niniejsza praca stanowić może punkt wyjścia dla dalszych badań nad eustresem i
praktyką refleksyjną oraz ich wpływem na samopoczucie przedsiębiorców

Get PDFThe main aim of the paper is to present the results of the experiment on the impact of management tools for the process of planning. It includes the theoretical foundations on the work of a manager using organizational techniques with the use of management tools to solve an organizational problem. Presented theoretical foundations are an introduction to test hypotheses which were verified with quantitative and qualitative data of an experiment in conjunction with non-participant observation. Analysis of these data enabled the authors to claim that the characteristics of managerial tools affect both the course of the organizational techniques, as well as the content of the solutions for the organizational problem

External Costs of Cruising for Unoccupied Parking Space
Get PDFFor several years, in connection with the development of city infrastructure, a gradual increase in the number of vehicles on the road is observed inPoland and the entire Europe. Governments need to solve the problems associated with the phenomenon of urban congestion and general overcrowding of city centers. Congestion can arise from many reasons. One of them is an irrelevant supply of parking space. The situation causes drivers to cruise for parking space, which generates a variety of costs. This article takes up the issue of identifying costs resulting from this phenomenon. The main aim of the article is to answer the question: what costs arise as a result of drivers cruising in search for parking space? The article attempts to develop a methodology for estimating these costs. Therefore, the results may be useful to local governments in making policy decisions concerning the public sector

bliskość), kluczowe komponenty modelu biznesu. Wykorzystano również tzw. strefę wpływu,
która pozwoliła z
kolei na identyfikację komponentów pozostających w
bezpośrednim oddziaływaniu komponentu „ego” wybranego na drodze zajmowanej (centralnej) pozycji w
sieci. Dokonano również symulacji, usuwając ów komponent, aby sprawdzić, jak kształtują się
zmiany w pozostałych komponentach mierzone w oparciu o całkowitą centralność węzła.Social network analysis and/or organizational network analysis became an important element of research in the science of management with its accompanying (quantitative, qualitative, graphical) instruments, which allows to illustrate and explore any part of reality from the relationships and interdependencies perspective. This article attempts to analyze this interrelationship in the context of its impact and interdependencies that occur between defined business model components operating in the virtual reality sector. Network analysis has allowed to extract, using classical measures of centrality (degree and closeness), key components of business model. The author has also used the so-called sphere of influence, which, in turn, allows for the identification of busienss model components remaining in the direct interaction with “ego” component, occupying the central position in the network. A kind of simulation has been used by removing this central component to determine how this change has acctually shaped the changes in the other components measured by the total degree centrality of a node
