Generic Modular Ontology for Innovation Domain. A Key Pillar Towards “Innovation Interoperability”

    Get PDF
In a century of complexity, organizations are moving towards open innovation. So, contemporary Innovation Management Systems have to deal with the distributed, heterogeneous and fast growing characteristics of knowledge that are available in different forms and are rather weakly structured. In addition, the increasing degree of specialization and interdependence between and among organizations calls for group capabilities at the organizational level to interoperate with others to produce not only novel, but also critically acclaimed innovations. This is the focus of this paper that introduces the new concept of “Innovation Interoperability”. Then, it formalizes and represents semantically the key concepts underlying a systematic innovation approach and the relations between them, through a Generic Modular Ontology, we have called “GenID Ontology”. The latter consists of three interconnected sub-ontologies, referring to the key dimensions of successful innovation within an open context, which are: Core-ideas, Actors and Context. This paper has adopted a mixed research strategy and uses a qualitative online survey to examine the delivered constructs

The processes taking place in the modern economy mean that the functioning of enterprises is constantly changing. The effects of these changes directly translate into the development of business entities. In this context, one should pay attention to those elements whose implementation in a functioning enterprise may give impetus to a faster development than a rival. One such element seems to be the implementation of the concept called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The study aimed to find out the opinions of using CSR concept in the process of building competitive edge among entrepreneurs from the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) sector in Poland and Denmark. The choice of a partner country for Poland to conduct a comparative study was not accidental. Denmark is often mentioned as one of the most socially responsible countries in the world. Qualitative research was used to collect data. Between February and November 2016, ten individual in-depth interviews were conducted with representatives of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises representing various industries (trade, services, production) in Poland and Denmark. Analysis of the results shows a similar level of development and use of CSR as a tool to build competitive advantage in Poland and Denmark, where all surveyed companies submitted such a declaration. The two main motivations for the respondents from the two surveyed countries differ widely. From Polish side, there is perception of CSR as a positive standard - a norm that is worth observing sets the framework for the action of contemporary companies and positively influences their image and willingness to act in accordance with its internal ethical standards. From Danish side, the most important reason for implementing CSR activity are: the company’s performance following its objectives, values, and vision and ensure the development of the company through the transparency of the operation

The Meaning of Executive Controlling in Business Management - Results of the Research Survey

    Get PDF
During several years of research on the state of controlling in Poland, attention was paid to several areas of how some modern enterprises are functioning. One of them is executive controlling, which should be considered as a strong and innovative determinant influencing the development of management methods in a modern enterprise. One of the fundamental requirements of executive controlling is the need to move from a functional operation system to an approach utilizing process management of an enterprise. The advantage of such a solution is the ability to quickly diagnose and continuously coordinate problems at their place of origin. The aim of this article is to present selected results of research on executive controlling issues, which were carried out on a group of 266 companies operating in Poland

Friends doing business. An Explorative Longitudinal Case Study of Creativity and Innovation in an Italian Technology-Based Start-Up

    Get PDF
With a process perspective based on a framework derived from several disciplines, we theoretically discuss how friendship dynamics in founding teams may affect a business. We develop a conceptual model that considers the different nature of exchanges in business and friendship, which may serve as a useful starting base for future investigation (in the Appendix we report some measures of friendship). We then examine an exemplary case. We focus on group cohesiveness (a proxy for friendship), decision-making, and organization of an Italian technology-based firm’s founding team over time and explore the process of generating creative ideas and implementing innovation. Our speculative findings show that chaos does not necessarily favor creativity and innovation: while low group cohesiveness leads to disorganization because business norms prevail over friendship ones, high group cohesiveness creates structure in the organization that sustains the generation of creative outcomes by enhancing the role of friendship norms in decision-making. We explain this finding in the light of the principle of reciprocity of exchanges

Theoretical and Methodical Aspects of Crowdsourcing: Effectiveness and Its Measuring

    Get PDF
In our times, a growing interest of organizations, including also the public ones, in crowdsourcing, can be observed. It enables to acquire knowledge located in virtual communities. However, despite many benefits, crowdsourcing initiatives very often fail. Therefore, a need for their evaluation is recognized. Nonetheless, in the subject literature, a shortfall of criteria and methods of evaluating crowdsourcing may be observed. The existing proposals do not ensure a comprehensive picture of crowdsourcing, and they do not take into account its multidimensionality. The article is intended for a presentation of the ways of evaluating crowdsourcing and an original proposal of a list of indicators, which may be used for evaluating crowdsourcing in public organizations. The article presents the original proposal of activities, by which it is possible to assess the degree of implementation of the adopted tasks and determine the level of obtained crowdsourcing results. The conducted research allowed to recognize that it is possible to measure crowdsourcing results using quantitative and qualitative indicators. A prerequisite for selecting the appropriate means is first of all to indicate the purposes for which crowdsourcing should be used

The Desire that Propels Entrepreneurial Intentions

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to integrate conceptual and empirical work on the prediction and explanation of entrepreneurial intentions. Specifically, it tests a model that accounts for the motivation of the entrepreneur, a salient factor commonly omitted in current theories of entrepreneurial intentions. We test the role of entrepreneurial desire (a distinct concept from desirability) as a determinant of two distinctive entrepreneurial intentions. This research corroborates recent findings that highlight the importance of identifying intentions to start a business with an orientation for growth as opposed to income substitution. Further, while the role of emotions has become an important factor in entrepreneurship, anticipated emotions have received very little attention in the prevailing literature. Using a sample from Kuwait, this paper finds that desire is a stronger predictor of growth-oriented intentions than income-substitution intentions. Also, entrepreneurial desire partially mediates the effects between attitude, anticipated emotions and entrepreneurial intentions.
