    A Review of Students' Critical Thinking Skills in Science Learning in Indonesia. Objective: This review study aims to analyse and describe the development of students' critical thinking skills in science learning. Methods: This study uses a systematic literature review by following the PRISMA form. We found 158 documents critical thinking skills in science learning in published in Scopus indexed journals from 2014 to 2024. After the screening process, 16 articles were selected for analysis using thematic analysis. Findings: The review findings show that the selection of learning media to enhance critical thinking skills in flexible science learning should be aligned with students' characteristics, the learning context and user-friendliness. The choice of learning models employed to improve critical thinking skills in science learning is highly variable and must be tailored to multiple criteria. Selecting the suitable model necessitates consideration of the students' attributes, the educational material, and the time constraints. Every learning model possesses distinct advantages in promoting critical thinking skills, necessitating the selection of the model that most effectively aligns with the particular requirements and educational situation. Conclusion: Critical thinking skills are among the most vital competencies that students should acquire. These skills are crucial in facilitating a deeper comprehension of scientific concepts among students. The literature study indicates that from 2014 to 2024, many media and learning approaches have been extensively utilized in science education.     Students’ Performance on Inquiry-Based Physics Instruction through Virtual Simulation

    The main goal of this study was to prove the effect of inquiry-based instruction through virtual simulation on students’ performance in Physics. Three heterogeneous classes at grades seven with 141 students participated in the research, and a quasi-experimental design with pretest and posttest was used. The participants were divided into three groups for the three different teaching strategies, such as; inquiry-based instruction, virtual simulation, and inquiry-based instruction through virtual simulation taught by the same teacher. The pretest and posttest scores of the three groups were analyzed using comparative analysis, an F-test to determine if there is a significant difference in the students’ performance in learning the Physics concept before and after applying the inquiry-based method and virtual simulation strategy of teaching. The same was used to compare the difference between their performance before and after using inquiry-based instruction through virtual simulation. The findings revealed that inquiry-based instruction caused satisfying acquisition of scientific concepts related to content taught in Physics. The outcomes also supported that all the three teaching strategies have a highly notable effect on the students’ performance in Physics.     Development of ICT-Based Geometry Transformation Module for High School Students

    This study aims to develop an ICT-based geometry transformation module for high school students. This research is a development research using the ADDIE model. The results showed that the geometry transformation module developed was valid and received a good response from students. The developed ICT-based geometry transformation module can be used as an alternative for teachers to help students learn geometry transformation material. However, this module can only be run on windows-based computers or tablets.     Bridging Knowledge and Fear: Citizen Science in Enhancing Herpetofauna Literacy, Identification Skills, and Reduced Fear

    Species literacy and species identification skills are important to protect diversity and are issues in Sustainable Development Education. Fear of animals, especially herpetofauna, makes students avoid them and makes it difficult to study them. Based to the literature study, citizen science has the potential to solve this problem. This study aims to determine the impact of citizen science on species literacy, species identification skill, and fear of herpetofauna. This study included 44 biology education students from PGRI Silampari University who were studying Vertebrate Zoology classes. The data on species literacy was obtained using essay questions. Reports provided information on species identification skills. A questionnaire was used to collect fear data on the herpetofauna. The instrument used was declared valid and reliable. Species identification ability data was analyzed based on species resulting from citizen science activities. Species literacy data were analyzed descriptively and using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. Literacy increase data is calculated using the N-Gain Score. The results obtained show that 1) Species literacy data after the Wilcoxon test obtained sig. <0.05. The N-gain analysis obtained was 0.72 in the high category. 2) The herpetofauna identification data was 71.23%, indicating that students skills are passable in identifying species. The results of citizen Science activities showed that a maximum of 17 species were caught and a minimum of 6 species; 3) The Wilcoxon test revealed a significant difference in fear of herpetofauna (sig. < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that Citizen Science significantly increases students' species literacy, identification abilities and reducing students' fear of herpetofauna.        Keywords: citizen science, species literacy, species identification skill, herpetofauna

    Analysis of PISA Model Problems on Junior High School Mathematics Textbooks Published by Indonesia Ministry of Education in the 2017 Revised Edition

    This study aims to describe the problems of the PISA model in mathematics textbooks which are in terms of the aspects contained in the components of the PISA model. The research subjects were competency test questions in the 2017 revised edition of the 2017 curriculum 2013 math textbooks, totaling 180. This study used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The research instrument was an analysis guide sheet based on the aspects of content, context, and cognitive level of the PISA model questions. Data analysis uses the stages of unit purchasing analysis, categorizing, and coding. The results showed that there were 17.22% of the PISA model questions. The questions are distributed based on each content consisting of number, space & shape, change & relationship, and impossibility & data. In the context aspect, the questions only fulfill three contexts, personal work, and social judging from the level of cognitive questions that are applied at the level of remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, and assessing levels.     Android-Based Diabetes Foot Care Education Application: A User Satisfaction Study on Various Demographic Profiles

    Abstract: Smartphone educational applications have been developed as an alternative when educating patients. Although many similar applications have been developed, they focus on services and information about diabetes management. For this reason, this research aims to create an educational application in an Android-based smartphone called Rawat focused on diabetic foot wound prevention care. This is based on the fact that the incidence of foot wounds can be prevented by conducting education. Seeing that application users have diverse demographic profiles. It must be a concern that all users benefit so that educational goals can be achieved. Therefore, it is necessary to examine users' satisfaction with foot wound application seen from various demographic profiles. The research design used a Descriptive Comparative, purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 140 respondents as members of Persadia (Indonesian Diabetes Association) at RSUD: Salatiga City, Surakarta City, Surakarta Regency, Prambanan Yogyakarta and Klaten Islamic Hospital. Data were collected using the EUCS questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi Square test and Logistic Regression. The results showed that there was no difference in satisfaction with the Rawat Kaki application in the job profile. For the education, job and age profiles, there were differences in satisfaction. The profiles that were closely related to influencing respondent satisfaction were gender, education and age, while work had no effect.       Keywords: diabetics, demographics, android app, satisfaction

    Students’ Learning Motivation in Online Practicum Courses during COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case of Walisongo State Islamic University

    This research aims to identify student learning motivation in online practicum courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study used a quantitative survey method toward 117 biology students at the Walisongo State Islamic University. Data were collected using five-point Likert scale questionnaire. The data show that students learning motivation is in good criteria (75.47%). The percentage breakdown and criteria for each indicator are as follows: concentration 77.9% (good), curiosity 81.06% (very good), enthusiasm 66.67% (good), independence 82.64% (very good) ), readiness 77.78% (good), enthusiasm 66.7% (good), never give up 72.82% (good), and confidence 78.21% (good).     The Effect of STEM Integrated Guided inquiry Learning Model on Problem solving Skills of Grade 8 Students on Vibration Material and Waves

    In the 21st century, students are required to possess problem-solving skills, this is because students' problem-solving skills are closely related to real-life issues. However, in reality, students' problem-solving abilities in Indonesia are still very low. This has been demonstrated by research conducted by PISA and TIMSS. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of implementing a guided inquiry learning model integrated with STEM on problem-solving skills, specifically in the subject of vibrations and waves. This study uses a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group to test the effectiveness of the intervention. The study involved two classes with different treatments as samples: the control class, which did not receive the intervention, and the experimental class, which receive the intervention, with 30 students in each class. Data analysis testing was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, homogeneity test, independent sample t-test, and N-Gain test. The research data analysis revealed an improvement in problem-solving skills in the theory of vibrations and waves through the application of the guided inquiry model integrated with STEM. This is evident based on the independent sample t-test with a Sig.value is 0.000 (p < 0.005), leading to the conclusion that the guided inquiry learning model integrated with STEM significantly affects the problem-solving abilities of 8th-grade students in the topic of vibrations and waves.     Keywords: guided inquiry, STEM, problem solving skills, vibration and wave

    Improving Mathematical Connection Skills through Eliciting Activities in 8th-Grade Students at SMP Negeri 1 Bangkinang Kota

    This research aims to examine the influence of the Eliciting Activities learning model on student’s mathematical connection skills. It is a quasi-experimental study using a nonequivalent control group design, with the population being eighth grade students at SMP Negeri Bangkinang Kota. The sample consists of two classes selected through purposive sampling: class VIII F as the experimental class of two classes selected through purposive sampling: class VIII F as the experimental class using the Eliciting Activities model and class VIII E as the control class using conventional teaching methods. Data collection techniques involved tests and observations. Hypothesis testing was conducted using a paired t-test with a significance level of < 0.025. Prior to this, prerequisite tests were performed, including a normaity test using the Kolmogrorov-Smirnov test and a homogeneity test using Levene’s test. Based on the analysis results, the paired t-test yielded a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.025, indicating that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected.     Development of HOTS Problem Oriented Circle Learning E-Module to Improve Problem Solving Ability of Class VIII Students

    Problem solving ability is one of the important skills for students in dealing with problems in everyday life. One effort that is indicated to improve students' problem-solving abilities is to practice questions that are in the realm of High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). This study aims to develop HOTS problem-oriented Mathematics E-Modules. The E-Module was developed using the Notion application and circle material for class VIII SMP. This study used class VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Kuta as research subjects. The development method using 4D model stage. Data were collected using expert validation questionnaires, teacher response questionnaires and student response questionnaires as well as tests of problem-solving skills. Data analysis was carried out by calculating the average score of expert validation and the average score of the student response questionnaire. The testing of the problem-solving ability test instrument was carried out by item analysis and the internal consistency of the test items. The validation results from 2 validators obtained an average value of 4.03, which means that the E-Module is in the valid criteria. Based on the teacher's response questionnaire, an average value of 3.39 was obtained which was in the practical criteria, while based on the student response questionnaire, the average value was 3.60 which was in the very practical criteria. Furthermore, the results of the gain score for tests of students' problem-solving abilities obtained an average of 61.72 which is in the effective category.Keywords: e-module, hots questions, problem solving ability.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v24i1.pp248-26
