Comparison of mean values and entropy in accelerometry time series from two microtechnology sensors recorded at 100 vs. 1000 hz during cumulative tackles in young elite rugby league players
Several microtechnology devices quantify the external load of team sports using Global Positioning Systems sampling at 5, 10, or 15 Hz. However, for short, explosive actions, such as collisions, these sample rates may be limiting. It is known that very high-frequency sampling is capable of capturing changes in actions over a short period of time. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the mean acceleration and entropy values obtained from 100 Hz and 1000 Hz tri-axial accelerometers in tackling actions performed by rugby players. A total of 11 elite adolescent male rugby league players (mean ± SD; age: 18.5 ± 0.5 years; height: 179.5 ± 5.0 cm; body mass: 88.3 ± 13.0 kg) participate in this study. Physiological variables associated with performance in a European professional male rugby team: analysis of a training intervention
The main objective of this study was to identify the impact on conditional variables through a training intervention. A retrospective observational study was conducted in a professional rugby team, where an intervention was conducted for 4 weeks. Data were collected for a total of 18 weeks: 14 weeks pre-intervention, including 7 matches; and 4 weeks post-intervention, including 4 matches. The variables selected and analysed were distance (m), sprint distance (m), distance per minute (m/min), maximum speed (km/h), high intensity actions (n) and accelerations and decelerations >3 m/s² (n). In training, a significant difference was found before and after the intervention in Dist. Sprint (t = 4.303), in Vel. Max (t = 4.141), and in Acc+Dec>3 m/s² (t = 2.939). Flight ticket taxes in Europe: environmental and economic impact
We examine the causal impact of flight ticket taxes on airline flights and derived CO2 emissions and analyse its distributional effects between airlines and travellers and within travellers. We use a dataset on flights within Europe at the airline-route level and apply a staggered difference-in-differences approach considering potential bias of the standard two-way fixed effects and the potential distorting effects of heterogeneities between treated and control routes. The main analysis focuses on low-cost airlines because connecting passengers are typically excluded from the tax. We find that flight ticket taxes have a significant overall effect on low-costs airlines supply and derived emissions: ticket taxes reduce the number of flights per airline-route by 12% on average compared to the counterfactual scenario, resulting in a 14% reduction in carbon emissions. Creation of a virtual audience system. Flow and technology in an audiovisual information system synchronous with a live show
Assessment of body composition and bioimpedance in runners with Down syndrome: insights derived from a four-case study
[...]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Case study: evaluating deep-water start techniques and training demands in seated slalom waterskiing for an athlete with paraplegia
Purpose: Recreational and competitive slalom waterskiing is increasingly popular among individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI), particularly for those with paraplegia using sit-skis. A key component of slalom skiing is the deep-water start (DWS), yet little is known about the physiological and physical demands of this activity when the athlete is seated. This study aims to fill this gap by focusing on the training requirements for a seated slalom athlete.
Materials and methods: Focusing on a young male athlete with paraplegia, this case study evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of traditional (TDWS) and alternative (ADWS) DWS techniques during seated slalom waterskiing sessions. It assesses internal training load (TL) through heart rate (HR) zones and session rating of perceived exertion (sRPE), alongside pre- and post-session handgrip strength measurements to gauge peripheral muscle fatigue. Connecting actors with the introduction of mobile technology in health care practice placements (4D Project): protocol for a mixed methods study
Background:The learning process in clinical placements for health care students is a multifaceted endeavor that engages numerous actors and stakeholders, including students, clinical tutors, link teachers, and academic assessors. Successfully navigating this complex process requires the implementation of tasks and mentorships that are synchronized with educational and clinical processes, seamlessly embedded within their respective contexts. Given the escalating number of students and the rising demand for health care services from the general population, it becomes imperative to develop additional tools that support the learning process. These tools aim to simplify day-to-day clinical practice, allowing a concentrated focus on value-based activities. This paper introduces a project funded by the European Commission that involves 5 European countries. [...]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Unraveling athletic performance: transcriptomics and external load monitoring in handball competition
Objective: This study aims to comprehend the impact of handball practice on sub-elite athletes by investigating transcriptomic changes that occur during a match. The primary focus encompasses a dual objective: firstly, to identify and characterize these transcriptomic alterations, and secondly, to establish correlations between internal factors (gene expression), and external loads measured through Electronic Performance and Tracking Systems (EPTS variables). Ultimately, this comprehensive analysis seeks to evaluate both acute and chronic responses to exercise within the context of handball training. [...]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
