    Selective Carbon Self-wiring from a Graphite Rod in Water under a DC Electric Field

    Selective carbon self-wiring is attractive for the miniaturization of photonic and electrical circuits. In this study, we report that a micro carbon wire grows in the direction opposite to the electric field selectively from a graphite rod in water between parallel electrodes under a DC electric field. Surprisingly, this self-assembled method does not require any preparation for the suspension of carbon materials and it can control the growing position and direction at the same time. Furthermore, we find that the wiring growth rate is approximately proportional to the square of the applied electric field, whereas the wiring phenomenon is not observed under an AC electric field. In addition, the wire grows not from a carbonaceous material but from a graphitic material. Based on these results, we propose that our self-wiring phenomenon occurs owing to the interlayer coupling through the positive (metal) ions in the electric double layer at the growth point, resulting from an induced charge electro-kinetic phenomenon and chemical reactions.     Phase transition of anti-symmetric Wilson loops in N=4 SYM

    We will argue that the 1/2 BPS Wilson loops in the anti-symmetric representations in the N = 4 super Yang-Mills (SYM) theory exhibit a phase transition at some critical value of the 't Hooft coupling of order N-2. In the matrix model computation of Wilson loop expectation values, this phase transition corresponds to the transition between the one-cut phase and the two-cut phase. It turns out that the one-cut phase is smoothly connected to the small 't Hooft coupling regime and the 1/N corrections of Wilson loops in this phase can be systematically computed from the topological recursion in the Gaussian matrix model.ArticleJOURNAL OF HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS.(12):125(2017)journal articl

    A thermal immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method for moving-boundary flows with Dirichlet and Neumann conditions

    We construct a simple immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method for moving-boundary flows with heat transfer. On the basis of the immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method for calculating the fluid velocity and the pressure fields presented in the previous work by Suzuki and Inamuro (2011), the present method incorporates a lattice Boltzmann method for the temperature field combined with immersed boundary methods for satisfying thermal boundary conditions, i.e., the Dirichlet (iso-thermal) and Neumann (iso-heat-flux) conditions. We validate the present method through many benchmark problems including stationary and moving boundaries with iso-thermal and iso-heat-flux conditions, and we find that the present results have good agreement with other numerical results. Also, we investigate the internal heat effect through simulations of moving-boundary flows with heat transfer by using the present method. In addition, we apply the method to an interesting example of a moving-boundary flow with heat transfer, i.e., a two-dimensional thermal flow in a heated channel with moving cold particles, which is a simplified model of ice slurry flow.     高齢者52名を対象にMMSE-J、TMT、自動車運転認知行動評価装置による模擬運転を実施し、中程度認知障害と判定された被験者2名の模擬運転時の手掌部発汗反応と、ハンドル、アクセル、ブレーキの操作反応を検討した。被験者2名の手掌部発汗反応は他の50名の平均反応と一致せず、ハンドル、アクセル、ブレーキの過大な操作や誤操作が認められた。本装置を使った模擬運転は高齢者の運転適性の評価に役立つと思われた。Article発汗学.23(2):27-32(2016)journal articl

    Plasma cytokine levels and the presence of colorectal cancer

    Background/Aims Cancer-related activation of cytokine networks are central aspects of tumor development. The goal of the study was to examine the possibility of plasma cytokines for the screening of colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods We carried out a multicenter, hospital-based case-control study in 66 adult Japanese patients with CRC and 87 healthy adult Japanese. A multiplex bead array immunoassay was used to examine 27 different plasma cytokines. Their association with the presence of CRC was evaluated by logistic regression analysis after adjusting for potential confounding factors. Results Thirteen plasma cytokines were notably associated with the presence of CRC (p< 0.05). Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that the combinatorial assessment of some of these plasma cytokines showed "good" capability for discriminating between CRC patients and control subjects (area under the curve (AUC): 0.819 for the combination of IL-9, Eotaxin, G-CSF, and TNF-alpha; 0.832 for the combination of IL-4, IL-8, Eotaxin, IP-10, and TNF-alpha). Individual cytokine assessments presented lower AUCs (0.657-0.755) than the combinatorial cytokine assessments. Conclusions The levels of several plasma cytokines varied significantly between CRC patients and control subjects, suggesting the possibility of differentially expressed plasma cytokines as potential biomarkers for detecting the presence of CRC.     新型コロナウイルス感染症(2020年)の対応と学生のアンケートから考える

    2019年12月中華人民共和国湖北省武漢市において、原因不明の肺炎患者が発生し、その後2020年1月9日WHOは新種のコロナウイルス“a novel (or new) coronavirus”が検出されたと発表(WHO Statement regarding cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan,China,9 January 2020 Statement China)した。1月14日には、武漢への渡航歴のある国内初の肺炎患者が発生した。そして1月末には、海外渡航歴のない患者も初めて確認されるなど、日本に大きな衝撃をもたらした。その後2月25日には新型コロナウイルス感染症対策の基本方針が策定され、国民にその対応が求められた。 2020年早々に発生した新型コロナウイルス感染症は、1年経った今でもその威力は衰えることなく、生活様式を変えなければならないほど、あらゆる側面に影響を及ぼし続けている。そこで、国や県の経過とあわせ当短期大学の主な保健活動と学修機会の確保について振り返るとともに、健康観察シート(健康日記)と、学生を対象に行ったコロナ禍での日常における感染症対策に関することや体調面等のアンケートから、学生自身の感染予防と感染拡大防止の行動に関することなど現状を知ることができた。 新型コロナウイルス感染症対策について、個人の対応の重要性(かからない、持ち込まない、拡げない)を周知し、学内という集団の場での感染拡大の防止と、継続的な学修機会の確保を両立するために、その時の国や県、市町村の状況を鑑みて適切な対応を図っていきたいと改めて考えた。application/pdfdepartmental bulletin pape
