A new species of Gudeodiscus Páll-Gergely, 2013 from China, with extraordinary conchological and anatomical features (Gastropoda, Pulmonata, Plectopylidae)

    No full text
A new species of the Plectopylidae, Gudeodiscus longiplica is described from northern Guangxi Province, southern China. The shell, anatomical and radular characters are figured and described. This new species is characterized by long plicae on its parietal shell wall, which have not been observed in any other Gudeodiscus species. In contrast, the long parietal plicae are characteristic for the genera Plectopylis and Chersaecia, which mainly inhabit Thailand and Myanmar. These two genera are, however, only distantly related to the new species, as other characters (anatomy, protoconch sculpture, parietal plicae) suggest. The male portion of the genital structure of the new species is characterized by two separate penial caeca with different lengths, but similar in outer and inner structure. The relevance of this anatomical character is discussed. Gudeodiscus longiplica sp. n. occurs sympatrically with Gudeodiscus soosi Páll-Gergely, 2013. The anatomy and radula characters of the latter species are also described and figured.ArticleZooKeys.564:1-19(2016)journal articl

The contribution of seed dispersers to tree species diversity in tropical rainforests

    No full text
Tropical rainforests are known for their extreme biodiversity, posing a challenging problem in tropical ecology. Many hypotheses have been proposed to explain the diversity of tree species, yet our understanding of this phenomenon remains incomplete. Here, we consider the contribution of animal seed dispersers to the species diversity of trees. We built a multi-layer lattice model of trees whose animal seed dispersers are allowed to move only in restricted areas to disperse the tree seeds. We incorporated the effects of seed dispersers in the traditional theory of allopatric speciation on a geological time scale. We modified the lattice model to explicitly examine the coexistence of new tree species and the resulting high biodiversity. The results indicate that both the coexistence and diversified evolution of tree species can be explained by the introduction of animal seed dispersers.ArticleROYAL SOCIETY OPEN SCIENCE.2(10):150330(2015)journal articl

Change of macrobenthic communities in the 1930s, 1970s and 2015 in the mesotrophic Lake Nojiro, Central Japan.

We documented the current status of the macrobenthic community of Lake Nojiri (surface area: 4.56 km2; maximum depth: 38.5 m; altitude: 654 m above sea level; mesotrophic lake), and examined changes over time in the densities of chironomids and oligochaetes, by comparison with previous quantitative data of the lake reported in 1931 and 1973. We discussed the succession of benthic macroinvertebrates in relation to changes in the lake bottom environment, as evidence of lake eutrophication. On March 10, 2015, a bathymetrical sampling survey was carried out using a standard Ekman grab at each of the 5 stations (min. ca. 6 m – max. ca. 27 m) in Lake Nojiri. The average densities of the benthic communities for all the stations were ca. 5000m-2, comprised principally of oligochaetes ca. 2800 m-2 (57%) and chironomids ca. 2100 m-2 (43%), whereas their benthic biomass averaged ca. 9.7 g m-2, chironomids ca. 7.6 g m-2 (77%) and oligochaetes ca. 2.3 g m-2 (23%). In the shallower stations, the dominant species was Heterotrissocladius sp., but Chironomus nipponensis Tokunaga was the dominant species in the deeper stations. The densities of C. nipponensis was ca. 14 times higher than those reported by Miyadi in 1931 and 4 times higher than reported by Kitagawa in 1973a. In recent years the density of the oligochaete Tubifex tubifex, has tended to increase and the anoxic- and anaerobic-layer have thickened, especially in deeper regions where they are widely distributed. Moreover, we found differences in the C. nipponensis larval growth rate with water depth, i.e., small IV-instar larvae that dominated at the deepest Station 5. At this station, we suggest that low dissolved oxygen concentration and low water temperature during summer-fall suppresses growth of C. nipponensis. Large environmental changes must have affected chironomid and oligochaete densities and growth rate of C. nipponensis, especially in the deeper regions with low dissolved oxygen concentrations, low water temperature and high organic matter (ignition loss; 15.0% in St. 4 and 13.9% in St. 5) in the sediments. This is a strong evidence that the eutrophication of this lake is continuing.ArticleJOURNAL OF LIMNOLOGY.77(1):81-87(2018)journal articl

Distribution of adult Cheumatopsyche brevilineata (Trichoptera: hydropsychidae) along the shore of Lake Suwa, Japan.

We collected adult C. brevilineata with light traps to clarify the in distribution along the shore of Lake Suwa. Light traps were loceted 0 m (St. 0), 1,375m (St. 1), 2,700m (St. 2), 3,650m (St. 3), 4,600m (St. 4) and 5,325m (St. 5) from the outlet stream of the lake. A total of 105,874 adults were collected, and the sex ratio of the adults was biased to female throughout the study period except on July 23. The daily mean abundance of adults was highest at St. 0 (9,368.4 ± 8,569.1 ind. day-1) and declined rapidly the further the distance from the outlet of the lake. The mean relative proportion of the daily abundance at St. 1-5 to that at St.0 was less than 5%. In addition, there was a significant negative correlation between the daily abundance at a site and the distance from the lake outlet to the site. These results suggest that adult C. brevilineata can move at least 5,325 m, although most adults do not move so much.Article日本環境動物昆虫学会誌.19(3):133-140(2008)journal articl

Downstream drift of suspended matter and benthic macroinvertebrates swept by a riverbed leveling work in the middle reaches of the Shinano River, Japan

    No full text
The amounts of suspended matter and benthic macroinverbrates swept by an experimental riverbed leveling work were investigated in the middle reaches of the Shinano River. The concentration of suspended solid (SS) was 8.43 mg/L at the four study sites on the day before the beginning of the riverbed leveling (Day -1), but it increased up to 115.53 mg/L at the site 200 m downstream from the working site (St. 2) on the day of the beginning of the work (Day 0). Ash-free dry mass of the SS showed that inorganic matter content accounted for 84.4% of the SS at St. 2 on Day 0 and was much higher than Day -1 (72.9%). The most abundant particle size class of SS at St. 2 on Day 0 was 1-75 μm, followed by <1 μm, and inorganic particles of 1-75μm size class were the most abundant component swept by the leveling work. Down stream drift of benthic macroinvertebrates was mainly composed of Chironomidae, Oligochaeta, Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera at the study sites both on the Days -1 and 0. The drift densities of Oligochaeta and Chironomidae were 0.15 and 0.54 ind./㎥ at St. 2 on Day-1, but on Day 0, they increased up to 143.0 and 45.9 ind./㎥, respectively. The benthic macroinvertebrates swept by the riverbed leveling work were suggested to be flown away at least 1 km downstream from the working site.Article日本環境動物昆虫学会誌.22(1):11-16(2011)journal articl

    抗がん剤による末梢神経障害の足底の不快感の症状改善に青竹踏みが有効であった一例

    No full text
46(1):39-42(2018)departmental bulletin pape
