The Presentation-Practice Route to Teach Vocabulary to Young Learners: A Casa Study at International Schools in Uzbekistan
Teaching vocabulary to young learners is an essential aspect of language acquisition that requires a specific approach or strategy to ensure that learners acquire a wide range of vocabulary. Expanding vocabulary is a critical aspect of language learning as it equips learners with the learning tools to confidently articulate their thoughts and ideas in the target language. Developing vocabulary also enables learners to grasp complex concepts and ideas. One technique that has proven effective in language classes is the presentation-practice route. In light of this, the purpose of this study is to describe the teaching techniques employed by English teachers at Genius International School in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, when using the presentation-practice route to teach English vocabulary. The study adopted a descriptive research methodology, with data collection conducted through interviews and observations of English teachers at the school. Qualitative analysis was used to analyze the data collected from the respondents. The study's findings revealed that the teachers employed several techniques to encourage learners' mastery of vocabulary, including contextualization, the use of visual aids, and the incorporation of interactive activities. These techniques were found to be effective in facilitating learners' comprehension and retention of English vocabulary
Inducing Better-Facilitated EFL Writing Learning Dynamics with an Enlightenment of Collaborative Writing Strategy
Abstract
To better help globalized EFL learners withstand a wide variety of stumbling blocks residing in these modern second language writing learning enterprises, writing instructors should devise a learner-oriented learning approach where writers strongly establish more robust collaborative networking to successfully achieve their desired writing learning goals. A collaborative writing strategy plays an indispensable role to attain this coveted writing learning objective where EFL learners can supportively collate their distinctive ideas, perspectives, and strategies to compose more qualified writing compositions. This currently-initiated qualitative study was in support of an annotated bibliography approach to ascertain the credibility, relevancy, and applicability of the particularly-attained research results. To that end, the researcher utilized a document analysis and an open-coding approach to thematically categorize each identical research result generated by 10 already-published collaborative writing strategy journal articles conducted worldwide. The thematically-analyzed research results highly advised globalized second language writing instructors to incorporate a collaborative writing strategy at the inception of regular writing learning dynamics as it functioned as one of the propelling forces for EFL learners to gradually transform into more skilled, enthusiastic, confident, optimistic, and proactive target language writers.

Exploring English Teachers’ Perception on the Teaching of Using Story Telling Viewed from Phonology Awareness to Improve Students’ Speaking Skills amid Covid-19 Pandemic
Storytelling is a learning strategy of communication that occur a date earlier in writing history to teach lessons. It gives the fundamental structure of how learners create information out of their everyday lives. In practice, the students’ brain is tied to manage and organize information through story and that every relationship experience is recorded in their mind as an informative story. Storytelling is one of the technique that helps the students master English, especially in speaking skills. Therefore, this study is aimed at exploring English teachers’ perception on the teaching of storytelling viewed from phonology awareness to improve students’ speaking skills. To achieve the research aims, researchers employed descriptive qualitative study. Descriptive qualitative study is used to investigate natural condition of teachers’ perception of using storytelling viewed from phonology awareness in improving students’ speaking skills. The instruments are divided into two, observation sheets and interview guidelines. To support the research instrument, researchers use mobile phones. It is needed for recording the conversation both visual and audio. Based on the data analysis, Storytelling helps students to focus on story structure by paying more attention to vocabulary and grammar. When this happens, positive feedback is given by the teacher to improve students' communication methods and use the right English vocabulary with good pronunciation. Storytelling can not only improve students' speaking skills but can also help students acquire a lot of vocabulary and phonology awareness. It can be concluded that English teachers felt that the story-telling technique can improve students' speaking skills in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic because teachers are supported by some applications such as: Google-meets, Zoom, and school Moodle
The Use of Total Physical Response in Teaching Vocabulary Integrated with Meaningful Classroom Interaction
The deep consideration in teaching vocabulary is promosing a deep level of processing that can involve either long-term or short-term memory. This study was aimed at investigating the use of total physical response in the teaching of vocabulary integrated with meaningful classroom interaction. To attain the research aim, this study employed classroom action research. The steps of classroom action consisted of Planning, Acting, Evaluating and Reflecting. In the planning phase, researchers prepared lesson plans in line with students’ vocabulary problems and mastery. The students’ vocabulary problems were determined on how their solutions were before applying it in the class. The phase of the Acting is the session of applying total physical response as learning activities to improve students’ vocabulary. The acting activities should be done in accordance with the previous plan prepared. The last but not least is evaluating and reflecting. It referred to the evaluation process since researchers applied the learning strategies in the class. The upcoming process is then reflection, and it is emphasized on whether the learning plans are on the track. This study was carried out in middle schools. The sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. 37 students in the eleventh-grade class were involved in this study. The successful criteria were enacted in 75, and the indicators covered expanding word knowledge, adding specific words, word-learning strategies, and word-play activities. Based on the analysis result, students were able to conduct various learning activities to improve wide and extensive independent reading activities to expand their word acquisition and knowledge; students were able to perform meaningful strategies relating to specific words to improve their comprehension of texts containing those words; students were able to perform word-play activities to improve learning atmospheres in the class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of total physical response was able to improve students’ vocabulary mastery in integration with meaningful classroom interaction. The implementation of this strategy with paying attention to classroom interaction is strongly recommended to be applied for other language elements
Developing the Prototype of Picture-Based Learning Materials in the Teaching of Speaking Skills
Various pictures can be utilized as learning media to facilitate language learners to learn vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and speaking skills. In the teaching of speaking, serial pictures can be designed to promote students to speak what the pictures illustrate. Therefore, speaking skills become crucial part in learning the target language. In learning English where learners have limited sources to access real English communication with native or non-native English speakers, speaking materials become essential roles in developing learners’ speaking skills. Unfortunately, most of English Foreign Learners (EFL) oftenly confused to practice their English speaking skill because of the the laerners are afraid to start the conversation or express their idea in English. Dealing with this issue, this study is aimed at developing the prototype of learning materials in the teaching of speaking skills in high school level. This study is categorized as R&D design (Research & Development). The data consisted of two kinds, quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data are collected using questionnaire and speaking tests. Meanwhile, qualitative data are gained using interview sheets. Then, the quantitative data were analyzed using statistical analysis, while the qualitative data were elaborated in qualitative ways. The process of the qualitative ways consisted of three main analyses, namely condensation data, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Based on the result of analysis, this study showed that most of the laerners are afraid to making mistakes in speaking English. It was affected by some difficulties like their pronunciation, vocabulary mastery also grammar. For further studies, speaking practices are needed more in learning English speaking to train them to use the language to communicate. The implication for further learning is that speaking materials are designed in line with students’ speaking level and students’ target needs and learning needs
Developing the Prototype of Text-Based Learning Materials for the Teaching of Reading Skills at the Middle Schools
The objectives of this research are to find out the learning needs of students of VIII grade in improving their reading skills and to develop suitable reading learning materials using a genre-based approach for students in the second semester of the middle schools. This research is categorized into research and development (R & D). The steps of this research are needs analysis, product development, evaluation by the expert, revision, and final product design. The data were in the form of quantitative data obtained using a questionnaire and qualitative in the form of open-ended questions, then the reading materials were revised based on the experts’ suggestions. This study indicated each chapter contained: chapter number and chapter title, let's start, let's learn the model, let's work together, let's create and improve, follow-up, let's reflect, let's summarize, and mini dictionary as that the appropriate supplementary reading materials concerning the text-based reading materials were successfully developed through development models, namely Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate (Four-D Model). Finally, the developed materials are considered appropriate for the subjects of the study based on the results from the expert judgment questionnaire. The aspects of this questionnaire were content, instructional design, language, learning resources, and graphics. It can be concluded from this data that each aspect of the developed materials was considered "feasible" according to the expert
Exploring the Use of Various Board Games to Enhance Speaking Skills Viewed from Students’ Phonology Awareness: Speaking Skills; Phonology Awareness; Games
Speaking skill is classified as a productive skill after writing skills. It is related to communicative performance dealing with phonetic, fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, grammatical competence, intonation, and vocabulary mastery. Besides, students’ phonology knowledge is crucial in understanding speakers’ utterances in speaking activities. Therefore, students’ phonology awareness in speaking classes determine the students are success or not in having speaking skills. This study aims to elaborate the use of speaking board games to improve students’ speaking skills viewed from phonology awareness. To attain the research aims, this study employed classroom action research. The problems are focused on students’ speaking skills in relation to phonology awareness. The research data are classified into qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained using interview and observation sheets, while the quantitative data were collected using speaking tests. Based on the research findings, this study can be concluded that the use of speaking board games in teaching speaking classes which was combined with other various materials was able to improve students’ confidence and critical thinking skills to speak. It helped students practice their fluency, practice their accuracy, and gave smooth correction to the grammatical errors being made. Providing students with various speaking practices, the use of board games also facilitated students to improve their pronunciation inside and outside classes, vocabulary, and engage them to learn the English daily expressions in various topics
Reading Teachers: Reading Strategies Employed in Teaching Reading in Grade School
The purpose of the study. The aims of this research are to determine the teachers' reading style, determine their reading speed, and determine which reading methods are the teachers' strengths and weaknesses utilizing a thorough evaluation of reading techniques from Hawker Brownlow Education. This study utilized the comprehensive assessment of reading strategies from Hawker Brownlow Education. This material is composed of four series of tests namely, Reading Comprehension 1- Historical Fiction, Reading Comprehension 2- History Article, Reading Comprehension 3- Kate Wrote About a Special Zoo, and Reading Comprehension 4- Email written by Carl with different reading passages using the same 12 reading strategies. It is found that readers can effectively comprehend when they use the following strategies namely, finding word meaning in context, understanding sequence, and making predictions. Therefore, the four series of assessments, show that there are varied ways of comprehending a material that might directly influence the duration and time limit allocated in reading and answering the material, the recurring events of the same material used, and the scheduling of reading comprehension tests
English Teachers’ Feedback on Students’ Writing Work in the New Normal Era: Teachers' Feedback; Writing Skills
Feedback is information from the teacher to the students regarding to the students’ error in learning process, and the purpose of feedback given by the teacher could improve students’ abilities in learning. In learning writing, feedback from the teacher is needed by the students to improve their writing skills. Writing is a complex process, arranging several words into a sentence and arranging several sentences into a paragraph is not an easy thing to do. In addition, in writing a sentence, the correct words are needed so that the reader can easily understand the intent written by the author. Thus, this study aims to find out what types of feedback given by the teacher to students in this new normal era, and what types of feedback can improve students' writing skills. This research used qualitative descriptive research. For data collection, researcher used the interview notes, study document, and observation. This study took two English teachers and eight students. In this study, the researcher interviewed English teachers and students regarding the feedback the teacher gave during this new normal era. The researcher found that the teachers used two types of feedback i.e. oral and written feedback in correcting students' writing assignments. In addition, the researcher found that all students experienced improvement after they were given feedback by the teacher. Most students’ perception about feedback given by the teachers, oral feedback is very effective and can improve their writing quality
Enhancing Students’ Writing Skills through English Movies-Watching Reports; an Improvement of Linguistic Competences: Writing Skills, English Movies
English movies by some EFL teachers and lecturers are designed for teaching writing classes because learners can see how any of words is pronounced by actors who are English native speakers and they are asked to write reports in line with the contents of movies. Besides, learners can make notes of new vocabulary taken from the movies. Therefore, this study is aimed at finding out the use of Englis Movies-watching reports in improving students’ writing skills at the Mandalika University of Education. The research was conducted by involving the students at the English Zone Club organization. The researcher plans to have the students in this english organization because they tend to be more focus on english writing than other English organization at UNDIKMA. The research design of the present study is a classroom action research design where the researcher apply English movies to treat writing classes. They are asked to watch and pay attention to certain English movies and demand them to write a report on what they would have just watched. The research data are collected by distributing writing test to measure any improvement made through watching English movies on students’ writing skills. To gain the students’ writing improvement of writing skills, researchers make notes around some cycles of applying English movies in the class. The result of data collection was then analyzed by using quantitative statistical analysis. The conclusion of this study showed that the use of English movies was effective to improve grammatical competence, vocabulary, sentence patterns, various language usages, and motivation to practice writing
