Multichannel acquisition system with photomultiplier detectors

    No full text
abstractEN: This article describes design of a new multichannel acquisition system with photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). The system allows mean current measurement and photon counting for 2 PMT coincident operation. In order to obtain very high dynamic range, signal from the PMT is sampled by 14 bit resolution ADC and analyzed by high speed window discriminators and constant fraction discriminators (CFD). Output data is processed in the FPGA and transmitted to the embedded computer. The system has been developed for astrophysical and high energy physics research.score: 10collation: 1-

FPGA-based Cavity Simulator for Tesla Test Facility

    No full text
abstractEN: This paper presents a FPGA based DSP system for realtime simulation of superconducting accelerator's cavity. The superconducting linacs require sophisticated control systems for maintaining the constant amplitude and phase of accelerating field in the accelerator's cavities. The debugging of these systems on real hardware can be both difficult and dangerous. To allow testing of the real LLRF systems in the real time and with different cavity parameters, the FPGA based system has been developed.score: 3collation: 139-14

Karman vortex street parametrization with image processing application

    No full text
abstractEN: The karman vortex street phenomenon is applied in the vortex flowmeter. Application of various methods of investigations is necessary in the course of getting increased knowledge of the phenomenon. Flow visualization being the leading method of aero- and hydrodynamic phenomena investigations enables qualitative evaluation in micro-scale. Due to the image processing application in analysis of flow visualization pictures, calculation of geometrical parameters of the Karman vortex street is feasible. So, the quantitative information is obtained. The worked out methodology of investigations as well as designed software for analysis of vortex street pictures are described in the paper. The results of the carried out laboratory tests are reported. Flow visualization has been carried out on the especially designed laboratory tests are reported. Flow visualization has been carried out on the especially designed laboratory stand. The visualized flow has been recorded on the magnetic tape and then processed into set of consecutive frames. Four groups of frames of similar vortex development phases have been put on the image processing procedure. Distances between adjoining vortices have been calculated. On the basis of obtained results it can be stated, that in spite of probabilistic nature of the investigated phenomenon strengthened by the applied research method (flow visualization), the proposed method enables quantitative determination of Karman vortex street parameters.score: 0collation: 186-19

    FPGA Mezzanine Card DSP Module

    No full text
abstractEN: Today's most sophisticated real-time control systems, such as the LHC or alike, are facing similar problem of processing terabits per second of raw data generated by the diagnostic systems - where in addition most of the data is useless and only generates an empty burden for computing modules. Many approaches have already been adopted to make the realtime control possible under such circumstances including: parallel computing, modularity and data mining. Furthermore many factors determine the real efficiency of the whole system including: transfer rates between components and modules, "slow" memories or architecture and frequency of computing units. This paper presents a concept of realization, architecture, and hardware implementation of a digital signal processing module utilizing modern technologies, standards and approaches in one single card.score: 10collation: 80080K-1-80080K-
