    Effect of excess-quantum noise in a one-dimensional photonic crystal laser

    abstractEN: The effect of excess-quantum noise revealed from non-orthogonality properties of longitudinal modes in the one-dimensional photonic crystal laser is considered. A semi-analytical expression for the longitudinal excess-noise factor is obtained.     Analysis of the gain effect in one-dimension active photonic crystals

    abstractEN: Optical gain-enhancement in active one dimensional photonic crystals is investigated as a function of the characteristic parameters of the system. Using the transfer matrix method, and applying the Bloch theorem, the dispersion relation and the analytical expression relating the gain coefficient to the system parameters (such as the period of the structure, contrast of the refractive indices, geometry of the primitive cell, as well as the number of primitive cells creating the photonic crystal) have been derived. It is shown that the geometry of the primitive cell, as well as the number of primitive cells of which the photonic crystal consists, have a crucial influence on the gain enhancement of the photonic structure.score: 0collation: D037-1-D037-

    Concept-Based Routing in Ad-Hoc Networks

    abstractEN: In concept-addressable messaging, network nodes are both described and addressed by concepts derived from an ontology domain model. The paper presents a routing protocol for the concept-addressable messaging in mobile adhoc networks. The domain model is a taxonomy, and the address is any conceptfrom the taxonomy. The protocol uses restricted flooding (narrowcasting) to deliver concept-addressed messages. To that end, nodes’ conceptual descriptions are proactively spread with Hello messages. If there is not enough room in the Hello message, selected descriptions are moved to a higher abstraction level and merged. The protocol is a single layer solution (not an overlay).
