From/Towards a Multiple Sign System: Autism Novelized and Retold in Interlingual and Intersemiotic Contexts

    No full text
The focus of this study is to analyse selected signs of neurodiversity in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon and its interlingual and intersemiotic translations to examine readers' as well as translators' (as readers) role in the formation of the meaning, along with literature's contribution to neuro-inclusiveness. Taking the prevalent assumptions that the main character has autism as a reference point, despite the author's statement that he did not base his work on a specific syndrome, some brief information about autism spectrum disorder is provided, and the protagonist Christopher's autistic-like characteristics are reviewed with reference to the common features of the disorder. The target texts in Turkish, Azerbaijani, and French are defined as interlingual translations, and the stage performance in Turkiye is defined as intersemiotic translation. The target texts are compared to the source text using Öztürk Kasar's "Systematics of Designification in Translation" to discuss the extent to which signs featuring autism are transferred in the target texts and to highlight the contribution of the source and target texts to the acknowledgement and appreciation of differences

Translator's Voice in Harmony with the Poet's Voice Traced via Paratexts

    No full text
In this study, the English translation of Kıyı Kitabı (Book of the Edge), a poetry book by Ece Temelkuran is analysed through paratexts, where the translator's and the poet's voices become obvious and a great deal about the translation in terms of both process and a product is revealed. The translator, Deniz Perin, has written a preface, which includes information about the poet, the socio-political context, and translation strategies she used including the close cooperation with the author. It is followed by an interpretation of the poems based on political and spiritual themes. Socio-political focus and gender sensitive translation decisions draw attention, which are in line with Temelkuran's articles and books. In the translation, in addition to the translator's preface, there is also a foreword formed of a poem from the poet in her native language, where the voice of the source text writer is heard apart from the translated text. This can be assumed as a cooperation, contribution and support. In the study, these issues are discussed with a sociological perspective and by tracing the voices in the paratexts the journey of two different texts, two different languages and two different authors to become "one" through translation is examined

Respecting Member States’ national identities pursuant to Article 4 (2) TEU in line with the case-law of the Court of Justice of the EU

    No full text
Just as the national legal framework of each Member State of the EU should allow the possibility that a child's same sex parents be recognised as such, the obligation, if any, to teach a curriculum exclusively in the official language of the State at issue should disappear given that multilingualism is a fundamental value of the EU pursuant to Article 3(3), fourth indent, TEU. Neither respect for Member Statesʼ national identities pursuant to Article 4(2) TEU nor the principle of proportionality modify that conclusion. The author believes that respect for the national identities of the Member States of the EU should no way whatsoever limit the primacy (supremacy) of EU law, contrary to the stance of certain scholars. The case-law of the Court of Justice of the EU is slightly ambiguous in that respect

The participation of Russian citizens in social and political life is hindered by the repressive measures to the extent that the Constitution is nothing more than a hollow facade, behind which unfolds arbitrariness, totalitarianism, and destruction of individual freedom

This analysis uses a postphenomenological lens to provide insight into the shift occurring within society at large. It focuses on the educational domain, and arguing for a reevaluation of instructive approaches. Philosophical research into technology and education is seemingly lacking, and so this article seeks to fill the present gaps. This analysis initially delves into the postphenomenological frameworks of technological mediation, intentionality, and dimensions, to clearly differentiate the embodiment and cybernetic relationships as they are understood within various texts. Following this the epistemic and practical dimensions of these relations are explored to then be juxtaposed with the descriptive argument of the overall cultivating cybernetic relationship between human user and technological artefact in contemporary times, using the smartphone as the core example case study. Finally, a normative argument is made considering the previous cybernetic insight, in that if the classroom setting is to evolve and adapt, it too must embed technology within the classroom, lessons, and overall educational engagement. It represents an equalizing technological balance of cybernetic student and immersive classroom where the intentionality of user, technology, and classroom blend together to continue the cultivation of our blossoming relationship with technology

    No full text
This study examines the topic of the human being stuck in a transitional period between being human, transhuman, and posthuman. The focus of this article revolves around the analysis of Mike Lancaster's sequel novels "0.4" and "1.4" which depict events in a fictitious world, with the former focusing on the transformation of a conventional community into a digitally enhanced one and the latter depicting the presence of several versions of the upgraded humanity. This research employs transhuman and posthuman perspectives on selected novel excerpts that indicate the author's preoccupation with ambiguity and disobedience. Digital memory record of a diary is viewed as an instance of self-awareness that provides documentation for memory and archive which would be the only sign of the existence of a human version in this real world in contrast to the digital world

Persons who may act as attorney and grounds for impeachment of the attorney

    No full text
The judicial system is called upon to ensure the resolution of conflicts in society. The results of this system depend to a large extent on the effective participation of citizens defending their personal rights and interests in specific cases. At the same time, the constant development of society requires the evolution of its most important social regulator – the law, whose changes quite naturally affect the functioning of the judicial system itself. This leads to the conclusion that a good knowledge of the ever-changing legal framework is a prerequisite for citizens’ full participation in the process. The institution of the attorney has long existed in Bulgarian criminal procedure and has been adopted from Russian law. However, it is a subject of relatively low research interest. This could be explained, on the one hand, by the fact that the attorney performs an auxiliary role in the performance of functions in criminal proceedings. Also, the participation of the attorney in the criminal proceedings in a large number of cases is related to the implementation of additional, atypical functions for the criminal proceedings – those of bringing and substantiating the civil action and its defence. However, the very fact of its invariable existence throughout the history of our criminal procedure law is indicative of its essential role in achieving the objectives of the state’s criminal policy and ensuring the public interest in this respect. The present study identifies the persons who may be attorneys under Bulgarian criminal procedure law. The grounds for dismissal of the attorney are also examined
