Lean Supply Chain: Take an Opportunity to do More with Less
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that the application of lean approach in supply chain can act and influence the improvement of performances of the overall supply chain, as well as of all its participants. Some of the benefits which can be achieved by applying lean tools, methods and techniques, with minimal required investment, in supply chain are: reduced wastes, reduced costs, improved quality, faster delivery, and consequently increased supply chain profitability. In this paper, the comparison of traditional and lean supply chain is done according to different derived characteristics. The identification of comparative characteristics is done by desk research in combination with conversational research. The paper can serve as a basis for transforming existing supply chain into a lean supply chain
The Importance of Applying Lean Innovation for Enhancing Harmonization of Customs Procedures in context of Digitalization of Customs Administration - A Case Study of Serbia
As a part of the Strategy for modernization, customs administrations face a need for the introduction of new communication information technologies (ICTs) that builds on a long and successful European history on technology and innovation. Hence, apart from compliance of legislation that prescribes customs procedures, customs authorities face important decisions regarding design and implementation. In that context, this empirical research explores the extent to what digitalization of the Customs Administration of Serbia can improve the customs transit performances, in terms of enforcement of trading policy, without applying certain managerial tools, such as process thinking in lean innovation. The final data analysis of the research indicates that managing the organization through the functional units, rather than the processes, and without applying lean principles to the digital transformation initiative would not completely standardize the customs transit procedure
Intangible assets as financial performance drivers of it industry: evidence from an emerging market
In the past few decades, IC has been viewed as a crucial factor for improved financial performance of IT companies. Globally, the IT industry has shown positive trendlines and the tremendous importance of intangible resources as part of intellectual capital. Intellectual capital per se may not be a novel topic in the IT industry. Nonetheless, this paper focuses on determining which type of intellectual capital is paramount for financial success, which has remained an open puzzle. The aim of this paper is to analyse the human, relational, structural and innovation capital of IT companies and to measure their impact on financial performance. Moreover, the authors have analysed the impact of the intellectual capital elements on several key performance indicators as the most frequently used in these kinds of studies. In order to address this aim, the study collected primary data from 101 respondents - business owners, managers and experts from a rapidly growing IT ecosystem in South-East Europe. Most research has focused on developed countries for addressing similar topics. Therefore, the authors call out for additional research of this topic in other emerging and developing environments. The findings of this study indicate a positive effect of intellectual capital on business performance. This study raises awareness among business experts in the field of intellectual capital, and supports decision-making through the concept of identifying, managing and analysing intellectual capital and its effect on overall business results. Even though the IT industry has become global, this study draws exceptional attention to the interplay between IC and financial performance in a developing IT ecosystem setting

Exploring Possibilities of Integrating Version Control Platforms in Higher Education Through GitHub Data Analysis
Working in the software development industry in the modern world cannot be imagined without integration with version control platforms. In addition to allowing copies of the code to be kept, the code versioning platforms provide the ability to control changes that occur in the code itself, so it can be determined which member of the development team made the change and when. This article aims to determine the possibilities of using code versioning platforms in an educational context to provide insights into the students' collaboration and dynamics of developing a software solution. Data was collected on the GitHub platform using the API of a public GitHub organization. Social coding activities performed on the GitHub platform were analyzed using the concepts of Social Network Analysis (SNA). The results of the analysis indicate that the teachers can use data generated on the code versioning platforms o better understand the learning process and monitor the dynamics of project work. In this way, it is possible to follow how each team member contributes to the solution, understand the individual student activities, and monitor the state of the entire project
Incorporating heterogeneity of travelers’ preferences into the overall hostel performance rating
Hostels have become a very popular form of accommodation and their varieties have grown steadily in recent years. To ensure the sustainability of this business model, it is necessary to understand the main drivers influencing travelers to choose a hostel accommodation. For this purpose, we conducted an online survey using convenience sampling and purposive sampling techniques. Respondents' preferences to six hostel attributes (cleanliness, location, staff, atmosphere, facilities, and cancellation policy) were determined using discrete choice analysis. Sample results showed that the most important attributes are cleanliness and location, while the atmosphere is the least important one. However, widespread heterogeneity in preferences was observed, and cluster analyzes identified three distinct groups of travelers: “cleanliness sticklers”, “location demanders” and “party seekers”. Facilities and atmosphere were found to be very important attributes for particular clusters. These findings can help design a marketing strategy for each of the identified segments to ensure sustainable business. Finally, we have proposed a new approach to calculating the hostel overall rating based on attribute importance, which shows much better discriminatory power compared to the traditional average-based approach
Crowdsensing system for smart cities
This paper investigates the opportunities that crowdsensing, Internet of things and mobile technologies and services bring to improving life quality and healthcare ecosystem in smart cities. The main goal is to develop a crowdsensing system for smart cities that will encourage citizens to participate in collecting environmental data and solving problems related to ecology and healthcare. The proposed system will enable monitoring of air quality, allergens, level of noise and vibration caused by traffics. Intelligent devices such as mobile phones with embedded sensors, microcomputers, microcontrollers, and different sensors will be used for the monitoring. All the crowdsensing data collected from the smart city will be stored in the cloud, and used by different stakeholders via developed web and mobile applications. The crowdsensing data will be gathered in the city of Belgrade, Republic of Serbia. The proposed crowdsensing system and obtained results could serve as a good basis for adoption and implementation of crowdsensing smart city services in Serbia and other cities and governments. Furthermore, the proposed system can enhance citizens’ e-participation and initiative to contribute to the detection of problems related to environmental pollution
Mentoring development at student international business case competitions
Purpose Management education has received an immense amount of attention from both scholars and practitioners in the last few decades. Most research efforts have aimed at improving classroom education processes, programs and outcomes. Only a limited amount of research has focused on extracurricular activities such as mentoring top talented students for international business case competitions. This paper aims to examine the knowledge flow between mentors and strategic management undergraduates while they prepare for international business case competitions. This flow provides the opportunity for the development of phronetic skills, knowledge and leadership potential of undergraduates. Design/methodology/approach To understand the flow, 55 mentors worldwide were examined to provide evidence of their mentoring practices, perceived development of undergraduates and reverse learning of the business schools' top talents. For the analysis, the study used partial least squares-structural equation modeling. Findings The results of the study indicate that extracurricular mentoring of business case competitors strongly affects their development and creates recursive effects on the development of mentoring activities. Research limitations/implications Given the parsimony of mentors for premier global case study competitions, the findings of this study cannot easily be generalized to mentoring as such. Originality/value Despite the importance of the topics, to the best of the authors' knowledge, a study of this kind has never been conducted before. For the construct of the authors' model, the study was inspired by the multistage mentoring process theory

Corporate social responsibility, as a business philosophy and managerial concept, is increasingly represented in contemporary business operations and marketing, as well as in the scientific literature in this field.
