The blockchain technology selection in the logistics industry using a novel MCDM framework based on Fermatean fuzzy sets and Dombi aggregation
Logistics is a sophisticated system involving third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight forwarders, warehousing companies, and transport service producers in various transport modes, such as road, rail, air, maritime, and multimodal transportation. Furthermore, it is possible to add customs clearance agencies, insurance companies, banks, and relevant institutions and organizations to the system. Effective logistics systems must sustainably provide customers with quality and satisfactory logistics services using data shared over advanced technologies. Nevertheless, data and information on logistics are usually challenging to collect, process, and understand, as they are primarily unstructured, unreachable, and unstandardized. Blockchain is a new and advanced technology promising to eliminate or mitigate the adverse effects of these difficulties. However, blockchain technology practices in the logistics industry are extraordinarily scarce; and a few blockchain platforms have attempted to produce solutions for a few large-scale and global logistics firms. Hence, the digital transformation process involving blockchain technology for a logistics company encounters the challenge of selecting an appropriate blockchain platform for the logistics industry's needs. Although studies have been carried out in the relevant literature to select a suitable blockchain platform for various industries, few of these studies dealt with selecting the best blockchain platform for the logistics industry. Hence, experimental studies on choosing the proper blockchain platform in the logistics industry that tries to manage outstandingly complicated relations and linkages among stakeholders are currently inadequate. The current study presents a novel, robust, practical, and powerful decision-making tool that can also overcome highly complex uncertainties to identify the most feasible blockchain technology for the logistics industry. The robustness of the study's findings is validated with comprehensive sensitivity and comparative analyses
The Role of DevOps in Sustainable Enterprise Development
This chapter considers the problem of sustainable enterprise development from the perspective of the organization of software development. The goal is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics of the DevOps approach and present how it enables organization of continuous software development. By utilizing these DevOps principles, an enterprise can quickly adapt to ever-changing business requirements while fostering an environment capable of sustainable growth. This growth is primarily enabled by a shift in culture, where teams are encouraged to be functionally diverse which allows them to consider the whole lifecycle of an activity, rather than one single aspect. A case study of a university research and development center is presented to demonstrate the peculiarities arising from the DevOps approach. Conclusions and recommendations for future works are drawn from the literature analysis and own experiences
Streamlining clinical trial start-up with a kanban system: a case study to improve efficiency and reduce costs
This paper proposes the use of a Kanban system to improve the conduct of clinical trials for drugs and medical devices. The main goal is to shorten the lead times in clinical trial start-ups, resulting in faster access to new therapies and cost savings. Additionally, the proposed system aims to increase employee satisfaction through workload balancing and empowerment. The research is qualitative and can be further typified as a combination of case research and action research. To identify the causes of long lead times in clinical trial start-ups, two Contract Research Organizations (CROs) that conduct clinical trials for sponsors were analyzed. The proposed Kanban system was implemented in one of these companies to test its viability and results. According to initial estimates, the results show a possibility of achieving a lead time reduction of at least 7% per study. This translates to savings of about $680,000 per Phase III study of the trial and significant improvements in employee satisfaction
Analysis and Projections of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions in the US, EU, and China: a Comparative Study
Considering the significant effects of carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions on the environment,
analysis of historical emission levels and prediction of future levels are of huge importance in managing climate change. This study focuses on predicting CO2 emissions in the United States (US), European Union (EU), and China based on the data collected from the World Bank's database. The time series were modelled using the ARIMA methodology, while the analysis was conducted in R. The findings indicate that by 2030, the EU is projected to experience a decline of 23.70% in emissions compared to 2019 levels, while the United States is expected to witness a decrease of 21.95%. However, China's projections are discouraging, with an anticipated increase of 26.83% in emissions. These projections serve as valuable tools to assess the achievement of imposed CO2 emission targets in specific economies, informing the necessary adjustments to existing policies or the implementation of new ones. This study underscores the significance of analysing historical data and forecasting future CO2 emissions to manage climate change and develop energy-related policies effectively
It is generally known that traffic safety is influenced by humans, vehicles, and roads. Nowadays, when new technologies have taken over a large part of the traffic industry, the selection
of relevant software, whose competition is great, presents a big problem for the decision-maker. Intelligent systems, such as Motion, SCOOT, and SCATS, are used for the implementation of a control strategy in order to manage signals on the traffic network, with the goal
of increasing efficiency and traffic safety. These systems operate on the demand-responsive
principle and have logic for traffic optimization which represents their main difference along
with the optimization subject and method of the system functioning. The research included
consideration of mentioned differences, software, and hardware architecture that have a significant impact on the system’s functionality since the detector’s locations themselves depend on the optimization subject. The implementation benefits are considered through the
existing world’s projects. Based on the obtained data, the criteria used for the comparative
analysis of these three systems were defined, from the aspect of traffic safety.šte je poznato da na bezbednost saobraćaja utiču osnovni faktori, kao što su čovek, vozilo i put.
Digital Twin City Congestion Management Model as Part of Smart Mobility in GCC Countries
In this paper, we introduce a digital twin (DT) strategy as a component of smart mobility aimed at reducing traffic issues. Our core concept involves utilizing a DT city congestion management model to address traffic challenges in major cities within GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) nations. This approach aims to reduce transportation times, mitigate potential risks, cut down on costs, and lower CO2 emissions in alignment with environmental sustainability goals. Our solution builds upon a hybrid model-based DT framework developed by a group of Korean researchers. The key takeaway is that the implemented DT model significantly enhances our ability to predict potential congestion compared to existing models
Ubrzavanje tehnološkog razvoja i najava novih društvenih promena
Apstrakt: Dinamika ubrzanja naučno tehničkog i tehnološkog razvoja, u
novije vreme, postaje sve burnija.
sveta i velikoj rasprostranjenosti društvenih nejednakosti. Praktično, na delu imamo
učestalu smenu naučno-tehnoloških revolucija. Najkrupnije društvene promene se
ogledaju u sferi rada i radnih odnosa. Dinamika populacionog rasta, dovedena u vezu
klasno slojne strukture društva i uvećavanje razmera društvenih nejednakosti.
Analyzing the Possibility of Introducing Agile Methodologies to Student Organization Project Management
In the previous period, student activism has represented one of the areas that provided young people
with the most opportunities for personal development and progress. Non-formal education has been a
very attractive topic in recent years and volunteer experience through activism is climbing the ladder of
what employers value the most. As the IT industry is among those with the greatest growth and progress,
enabling students to gain valuable practical experience during their education is important. Speaking
about the transformation of the IT sector, the increasingly widespread application of agile methodologies
in business can be considered the most significant non-technical change. This paper aims to analyze
the possibility of introducing agile methodologies into the work of a student organization. The idea is to
contribute to the more efficient and improved work of the student organization and the realization of the
projects it manages, by introducing an agile approach to work. The paper is based on the research of
the current way of working on projects in the organization. It is necessary to identify critical areas that
can be improved. In the following, concrete frameworks and capabilities of their tools are studied and
analyzed, in relation to the needs of the organization. The background for the research is a survey
conducted among the members of the organization who managed the projects. The motive running
through this paper is the possibility that studying these two topics together can bring great progress and
improve the ultimate level of readiness of students in IT for the business environment. This is an added
value that students bring from the faculty, and any opportunity to connect theory and practice is
encouraged
