Benchmarking the Circular Economy Index: methodological challenges and practical implications
Circular Economy represents a topic of great concern, both for policy makers and academia, but above all for citizens. The challenge that academia and policy makers face when communicating the topic of circular economy to wider audience is scaling down several individual indicators into one synthesized value. This is often performed using the composite index approach. Still, for a considerable amount of time, researchers have been grappling with methodological challenges related to the development and evaluation of composite indexes of circular economy. These challenges include choosing appropriate indicators, determining an effective weighting scheme, accounting for substitutability among indicators, and more. Despite these challenges, the advantages of using a composite index have consistently outweighed the potential drawbacks, prompting researchers to strive for a methodologically sound index that can be applied and communicated effectively to a wider audience. In our paper, we will provide an overview of the methodological challenges and practical implications related to the benchmarking the Circular Economy Index, with particular emphasis on the raising robustness of the indexes and minimizing the impact of methodological inconsistencies on the interpretability and generalizability of composite index results

The main objective of this paper is to define the role and structure of digital logistics systems in the Industry 4.0 concept. This paper explains the improvement of logistics and supply chain processes by implementing the Logistics 4.0 concept in manufacturing and service companies. The purpose of this paper is to point out the importance of logistics digitalization and to emphasize the importance of technologies applied in the digitalization of logistics and supply chain processes used for the improvement of these processes in companies. The main contribution of this paper is the conceptual framework of Logistics 4.0. Additional contribution is six key criteria defined for the comparison of traditional logistics and Logistics 4.0. This paper is valuable for all companies that tend to implement or introduce Logistic 4.0 as a new business concept
A System for Tracking Organic Honey Production Using Blockchain Technologies
This paper aims to tackle a problem of distinguishing organic honey products from the conventional ones. The main goal is to give an example of blockchain oriented system for tracking the process of organic honey production in order to provide transparent information about the origin of the product that cannot be modified. Focus will be put on individual beekeepers and end consumers. The paper gives a brief theoretical background of blockchain technologies and Internet of Things (IoT). Designing a system for tracking honey production includes creating business model, process model, data model and model of smart contract. The paper also gives an example of prototype development including a prototype device with appropriate sensors and also a proposed application layout. System can be additionally expanded to include different stakeholders, such as distributors and retailers
Controlling highway toll stations using deep learning, queuing theory, and differential evolution
Traffic congestion is, nowadays, one of the most important highway problems. Highway tolls with booth operators are one of the causes of traffic congestion on highways, especially in rush hour periods, or during seasonal holiday travels. The value of driver waiting time (needed to stop and pay the toll) and the cost of the toll booth operators can reach up to about one-third of the revenue. In this paper we propose a novel methodology for continuous-time optimal control of highway tolls by predicting the optimal number of active modules (booths) in toll stations. The proposed methodology is based on a combination of recurrent neural networks, queuing theory, and metaheuristics. We utilized several recurrent neural network architectures for predicting the average intensity of vehicle arrivals. Moreover, the prediction error of the first recurrent neural network was modelled by another one in order to provide confidence estimates, additional regularization, and robustness. The predicted intensity of vehicle arrival rates was used as an input of the queuing model, whereas differential evolution was applied to minimize the total cost (waiting and service costs) by determining the optimal number of active modules on a highway toll in continuous time. The developed methodology was experimentally tested on real data from highway E70 in the Republic of Serbia. The obtained results showed significantly better performance compared to the currently used toll station opening pattern. The solutions obtained by solving a system of differential equations of the queuing model were also validated by a simulation procedure
Bibliometric Survey on Microfinance for the SMEE Sector
Limited access to credits by small and medium size enterprises and entrepreneurs (SMEEs) is a major barrier for the development of small-scale ventures and the growth of an economy. Microfinance institutions (MFI) are seen by both scholars and practitioners as a viable alternative for financing SMEEs. This paper aims to collect the evidence on the importance of MFIs for the access to finance of SMEEs (MFI-A2F). The objective of this paper is to provide a comprehensive bibliometric review the microfinance institutions in providing access to finance. The findings of this study indicate that the MFI-A2F stream of research is growing and that it has most probably reached its peak and full saturation level. Accordingly, the body of knowledge is sufficient enough for policy-holders, policy-implementors and decision-makers to create the most feasible, viable, and desirable microfinance system
How Crisis Communication Strategies Affect Crisis Consequences? The Case of Food Industry
Crisis communication strategies are used by companies to prevent or mitigate the negative outcomes of the crisis and to neutralize or control the damage to corporate reputation. Communication during and after the crisis determines the change of public perception, trust, attitudes and intentions towards the company and its brands. The food industry is particularly vulnerable to crises, especially those that refer to product safety. Due to the impact they might have on consumers' health, these crisis generate large public interest and media coverage that could amplify the consequences on brand and corporate reputation. The objective of the empirical research presented in this paper, was to identify and measure the change of attitudes and intentions of consumers in connection to the type of the crisis communication strategy applied by the company. The research was conducted by using the online survey method on a sample of 148 respondents in Serbia. The findings demonstrated certain differences observed by demographic criteria. Male and employed respondents were more likely to consider post-crisis cooperation with a food company in comparison to women and students. On the other hand, female respondents appeared to be more willing to restore trust in company's advertising messages and recommend its products after the crises
Pursuing career in statistics and data science – Are there gender disparities among students?
The paper aims at providing an overview on how students of a technical faculty which educates students in the field of
business and information technologies (IT) and business and management observe the calling of a statistician and
data analyst. To assess the students’ perception and opinion a survey will be conducted, and the statistical analysis of
the results will especially focus on exploring the differences and similarities between male and female students. Some
of the antecedents we will include are previous results in quantitative subjects (such as Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2, and Probability Theory), Perceived usefulness of statistics, as well as Interpretation anxiety. We consider conducting hypothesis testing as well as structural equation modelling multigroup analysis. The obtained results could indicate whether or not additional presentations and activities should be taken to encourage young female students to place interest in the field of statistics.https://www.isi2023.org/abstracts/submission/1066/view
