Macracanthorhynchus of swine in free range breeding
Macracantharhynchosis is a parasitosis caused by the acanthocephalus Macracanthorhynchus hirudinaceus. The development of the parasite takes place via a transitional host - a coleopteran from the genus Scarabidae. lnfection occurs when pigs eat infected coleopterans so that infections are found in extensive breeding. Genetic diversity of the orf5 gene of type 1 porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus isolates in Serbian swine herds from 2012 to 2022
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus CPRRSV) is the causative agent of a devastating pig disease worldwide, which is endemic in many countries, including the Serbia. Only limited epidemiological or molecular studies has been published on circulating PRRS-viruses in the Serbia since the early nineties. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the genetic diversity of circulating PRRS-viruses in Serbia in the last ten years, by comparing the nucleotid€ sequences obtained for ORF5, wlth the ORF5 sequences of PRRSV 1 subtype 1
Indexing of fatty acids in raw turkey meat and products for their characterization in a healthy diet
The aim of this work was to determine the fatty acid profile and health lipid indices of fresh
turkey meat, as well as products obtained from turkey meat, i.e. turkey sausage and pate.
Turkey breast muscles were cut from the side of the carcass, separately vacuum packed
and stored in a refrigerator before analysis. Sausages and pate were produced from turkey
meat using a technological process. The fatty acid profile of the samples was determined
by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector (GC/FID), and lipid indices were
calculated based on the composition. Turkey muscle had a higher percentage of C16:0 and
C18:0 than turkey sausage and pate. A significantly higher proportion of saturated fatty acids
(47.9%) than in sausage and pate, 27.2 and 8.9%, respectively, characterized turkey muscle.
The lowest determined proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids for turkey muscle was
12.0%. The atherogenicity index was satisfactory for all three tested products, while the

Effect of feeding with fresh carrots on reproductive performance of Simmental cows
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fresh carrots nutritional supplementation
on the reproductive performance of Simmental cows. The usage of fresh carrots, which may
reach the β-carotene level of 200-1000 mg/kg, may positively affect reproductive
performance in cows, as beta-carotene is essential for the normal function of the reproductive
system. The experiment was carried out on twenty-four Simmental dairy cows, where 12
cows were supplementary fed with 5 kg carrots per cow/day from calving to the first artificial
insemination up to 75 days. Non-supplemented 12 cows served as a control group. All
observed cows were healthy. Reproductive performance was followed by estrus response,
conception rate, pregnancy percentage, calving percentage, and rate of embryonic survival.
All cows included in the survey were gynecologically ultrasound examined without
reproductive disorders. The results of the current study showed that cows in the experiment
group had higher estrus response and conception rates of 8.3% higher and embryonic survival
rates of 16.6% higher than the control group. We conclude that the nutritional
supplementation of fresh carrots in cows’ diets is stimulating and therefore recommended for
improved reproductive performance, which is attributed to higher β-carotene intake resulting
in better reproductive performance and reduced embryonic death rate
Distribution of locomotor lesions in dairy cows in Serbia
Lameness causes significant economic losses in dairy cows. Lesions of the foot are the cause
of about 85% of all lameness in dairy cows. In addition, lameness can be localized in other
places of the locomotor system such as joints, muscles, and skin. The aim of this study was to
show the distribution of locomotor lesions in dairy cows. A total of 144 Simmental dairy
cows (36 primiparous and 108 multiparous) from 10 small dairy farms located in the Macva
district, Serbia were observed during regular hoof trimming. All cows were housed in a tiedholding
system. The clinical examination focused on all possible alternations on the observed
hooves and legs. Lesions of the horn, skin, joints, and leg injuries were noted. Of the 144
animals presenting for a hoof trim, 49 cows (34.0%) had no locomotor lesions noted. In this
study, lesions were present in 95 (66,0%) of all examined cows. Locomotor lesions of the
horn were detected in 82.4% (61/74 of cases), skin 2.7%, joints in 10.8%, and leg injuries in
4.05% of the cases in multiparous cows. Thus, lesions of the horn were detected in 61.9%
(13/21 of cases), skin 4.7%, joint in 23.8% and leg injuries in 9.5% of the cases in
primiparous cows. Our results show that lesions on the hooves are the most dominant site of

Gastrointestinal helmints of cattle in semi intensive breeding at Belgrade area
The spread area of Belgrade has extremely favorable conditions for modern agricultural
production (climate, agricultural land, watercourses, developed processing industry). This
economic branch is of strategic importance for supplying Belgrade with food products, along
with the resources that abound in the wider environment (Vojvodina and Šumadija). There are
numerous villages here, where households keep cattle in small herds or mini-farm, usually in
semi-intensive breeding. During our study performed on 2018 we examined faeces of 190 cattle
from 42 herds and 29 cattle by post-mortem examination. Determination of eggs and adult
parasites performed on their morphological characteristics. The coprological examination
established the presence of gastrointestinal helminth eggs in 39.6% of samples. The majority
of cattle were infected with two and fewer number with three or four parasite species. At postmortem
examination of cattle we found Haemonchus contortus we occured in 57,53%,
Ostertagia ostertagi in 55,63%, Trichonstrongylus axeis in 49.37%, Cooperia oncophora in
32.57%, Ostertagia trifurcata in 29.79%, Oesophagostomum radiatum 21.22%, Toxocara
vitulorum17.52%, Dicocelium dendriticum 15.26%, Paramphistomum ichikawai in 14.21%,
Strongyloides papillosus 11.51%,Moniezia benedeni in 9.47% and Trichuris discolor in 6.52%
Gamma spectrometry control of fish and fish food during 2016-2021
In the current conditions of economic and social development, the danger of radioactive contamination on a large scale has increased significantly due to more frequent accidents at nuclear power plants, which increases the degree of threat to biotechnical production and radiation risk to the population. It is known that the main route of intake of radioactive substances in humans and animals, in the case of radioactive contamination of a territory, is intake through food (it accounts for over 70% of the total intake of radionuclides). It is also known that the basis of any protection, including radiation, is prevention, i.e. cutting the chain of contamination before the contaminant reaches the human or animal body. As the food chain is the main route of intake of radionuclides in the body, it is clear that the protection of that chain can most successfully protect a person. For over 35 years, LABRAH-Laboratory for Radiation Hygiene, as an accredited laboratory, has been performing continuous radiation-hygienic supervision, import-export, over products of animal origin, animal feed, feed additives and other products. This paper presents the results of gamma spectrometric control of fish samples, fish products and fish food in the period from 2015 to 2021. The aim of this paper is to point out the current radiation situation in the field of radiation hygiene control and the manner of implementation of procedures and measures for protection against radioactive contamination of produced radionuclides in regular conditions, as a basis for human and animal health. Based on the results obtained in the period from 2016 to 2021, the activity of 137Cs in fish, fish products and fish food was below the prescribed limits. During this period, there was no additional radioactive pollution of the environment, we mean the nuclear accident in Fukushima, and also that the activities of this radionuclide in our diet are at a very low level.Book of Abtsract
Zdravstvena zaštita krmača i nerastova na malim gazdinstvima
Procenat uhranjenosti i telesna kondicija suprasanih nazimica i krmača predstavlja veoma važan pokazatelj nutritivnog, metaboličkog i zdravstvenog statusa priplodnih životinja. Optimalna telesna kondicija pripolodnog materijala ukazuje na broj prasadi u leglu, većeg broja prasadi po nazimici/krmači, veće težine prasadi na zalučenju i sl. Ishrana nazimica i krmača u periodu graviditeta treba da zadovolji uzdržne potrebe, potrebe za intra-uterini razvoj plodova kao i potrebe mlečne žlezde za nastupajuću laktaciju. Neizbalansirana ishrana u pravcu kvantitativnog i kvalitativnog suficita hranjivih materija, ekonomski je neopravdana i može da dovede do poremećaja u pravcu: gojenja krmača i slabijeg apetita u dojnom periodu, većeg gubitka telesne mase i slabije mlečnosti u dojnom periodu, produženog i otežanog prašenja koje nije moguće realizovati bez veterinarske asistencije. Ocena telesne kondicije se primenjuje u cilju procene kvaliteta izbalansiranosti ishrane nazimica i krmača u svrhu optimizacije potrošnje hrane i adekvatne pripreme priplodnog materijala za graviditet, dojni period i novu koncepciju. Jedan od najznačajnih zdravstvenih problema nerastova u uslovima intenzivne eksploatacije predstavljaju problemi sa lokomotornim sistemom i oni su jedan od najčešćih uzroka preranog isključenja nerastova iz procesa proizvodnje. Oboljenja lokomotornog sistema mogu ozbiljno da utiču na zdravlje nerasta. U većini slučajeva kod nerastova ispoljava se hromost u manjem ili većem stepenu. Hromost se nekada u početku može utvrditi samo pažljivim kliničkim pregledom. Hromost dovodi do atrofije mišićnog tkiva, usled težnje životinje da oboleli ekstremitet zbog bola štedi. Prilikom ispitivanja hromosti prati se pojava kontrolisanih pokreta. Ispitivanje životinje na hromost se vrši posmatranjem prilikom okretanja i pri hodanju preko prepreka. Stepen hromosti se određuje na osnovu toga koliko životinja može da podnese stepen obolelog ekstremiteta. Ispitivanje se obavlja detaljno. Vrši se poređenje sa susednim ekstremitetom. Ispituju se povrede, temperiranost, reakcija na prisustvo bola i prisutnost otoka. Prati se pokretljivost zgloba, odnosno zglobova. Priroda i ponašanje svinja otežava ovakav način pregleda. Hromost se najčešće ispoljava na tvrdim podlogama. Hromost svinja treba pažljivo posmatrati, tražiti uzrok oboljenja i razmotriti mogućnost postojanja indicija da se proširi. Finding of bee louse Braula coeca in bees in Serbia
The bee louse Braula coeca is a highly specialised flattened, wingless fly with extensive
global distribution. Female Braula can oviposit many places in the hive (empty cells, brood
cappings, debris on the floor) but only eggs oviposited on honey cappings will hatch. Braula
flies take between 10 and 21 days to develop from eggs to adults. Upon emergence from their
eggs, Braula larvae construct a tunnel under the cell cappings. This visible tunnel is the most
noticeable hive damage attributed to Braula. Although some consider this damage, it is only
aesthetic damage and of minor economic importance. It is believed that Braula larvae feed on
honey and pollen residues encountered while tunneling under the cell cappings. Braula adults
often are found on the heads of honey bee workers, drones, and especially queens. It feeds by
stealing food directly from bees during social feeding (trophallaxis). While on the head of its
host bee, Braula will feed on food from the mouth of its host as the host is fed by another bee
or is feeding another bee. There is some evidence that adult Braula can induce regurgitation
from bees by stroking the upper edge of a bee's labrum until the bee extends its tongue.
Braulae are reddish-brown in color and are often misdiagnosed as varroa mites due to their
similar appearance. Notable difference useful as a field diagnosis to distinguish between
varroa mites (mites) and Braula (insects) is that Braula, have six legs and has a rounded
appearance while adult varroa mites have eight legs and are more compressed and oval. Based
on our research in apiaries in Serbia, Braula is represented in a small percentage and does not
