The rural development of the territory of Zlatibor district, based on the agrarian economic foundations of sustainable development, becomes imperative for the overall economic development of the city Užice, as well as the district. The formulation of the paper corresponds to current problems in the field of rural development. In accordance with the defined topic, the goal of this work is to show the achieved level of development of the rural area. The paper presents the problems of the agricultural sector of the local community and provides guidelines and opportunities for further long-term development of agriculture and the rural area of Užice, which contribute to the development of the local economy and society as a whole. Economic, ecological, socio-demographic, developmental and other indicators within the framework of sustainable development of rural areas. The importance of competent institutions and organizations at the level of the city of Užice in solving important problems and creating favorable conditions for the development of agriculture and rural development is emphasized. Rural areas represent a large part of the territory of the Zlatibor district, so the development of this area is a very important segment of the overall development plan of the city of Užice. The rural area of Užice has significant natural resources for agricultural and rural development. However, rural areas cannot be developed without a strategic plan and assistance from the Republic of Serbia. The support of the state and competent institutions, the local self-government itself, is of fundamental importance in creating a more favorable socio-economic environment for rural development.Urednici: prof. dr Andrea Andrejević Panić, prof. dr Jelena Ješić i prof. dr Simonida Vukadinović; tehnički urednici: prof. dr Simonida Vukadinović, prof. dr Jelena Ješić, prof. dr Andrea Andrejević Panić i doc. dr Zoran Brlja

Indicators as a Foundation of Eco-Labelling of Baked Clay Construction Products in the Republic of Serbia

    No full text
Construction products based on brick clay have been intensively used for the construction of buildings in the Republic of Serbia. The basic raw material for the manufacture of these products is brick clay, which is a natural mineral resource. However, the natural origin of clay provides no guarantees as to whether this group of construction products is eco-friendly. The production of baked clay construction products significantly affects the environment and cannot be neglected. The existing eco-labels used for this group of products are not uniform, in the world or in Serbia. The aim of this paper is to present a new approach to eco-labelling of construction products based on baked clay in the Republic of Serbia. Eco-labels can be given to products which meet certain authentic criteria. The criteria is based on an innovative set of 24 indicators which connect the production of construction products and the impact on the environment. Indicators were defined for the most commonly used construction products—facade brick, standard block and energy block. The research was conducted on leading producers of baked clay construction products in three regions—Northern Serbia, Western Serbia and South Pomoravlje. The obtained results indicate that one of the producers meets the criteria for innovative eco-labelling. The remaining two producers do not meet the requirements for the eco-label at the moment because there is not enough available data on the grounds of which certain indicators could be valued in a more complete manner. The data are unavailable to third parties because they are treated as a trade secret. Further research and an upgrade of the indicator set would create an opportunity to expand the number of baked clay construction products which could obtain the eco-label based on indicators

Energy Crisis as an Opportunity to Accelerate the Green Transition and Sustainable Economic Development: Evidence from the Western Balkans

    No full text
War in Ukraine caused unusual disruptions to the energy market in Europe. Energy prices, primarily natural gas and coal have reached historic highs caused by post-pandemic economic development, insufficient natural gas supplies, and a lack of wind power generation. The governments of the Western Balkans (WB) region countries agreed that energy should be given a central role as a driver of development in the establishment of a stronger, more persistent, and more integrated region. That is why the European Union's proposal is to continue efforts to mitigate climate change, especially by introducing energy production from renewable sources. This will certainly require strong and coordinated action by the governments in the region, with the strong support of the European Union. The aim of the paper is to analyze the implications of the energy crisis in the countries of the Western Balkans, with a special focus on the opportunities arising from the acceleration of the green transition. Consequently, the paper is divided into three separate parts. The first part analyzes the energy crisis in the countries of the WB, the second part focuses on government response and fiscal measures in WB region, while the third part is about how the Western Balkan region can benefit from this crisis and accelerate the green transition and sustainable economic development. The methodology used in the paper consists of several qualitative research techniques, such as analysis, synthesis, and comparative analyses

National innovative capacity and economic growth in relation to sustainability

    No full text
Innovation has become the most important factor in the economic progress of countries nowadays. Evidently, there is a strong correlation between the countries’ NIC and economic growth. Finland, Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark are European countries with highest NIC as well as GDP pc (Cvetanovic, Andrejevic Panic, Kostic, 2021). The goal of this paper is to go one step further and investigate how does sustainability connects to this. Sustainability is another very important concept for modern economists but also many other interested parties. It refers to meeting the present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The longevity of global economy, preservation of human life without jeopardizing the quality of life for neither present nor future gen- erations, saving the environment in order to keep using it as a source for yet to be found discoveries and innovation are just some of the reasons why even the European Union and United Nations work together on cre- ating the common goals for a sustainable future. The European Green Deal adopted in December 2019, is the EU’s new growth strategy a1nd aims to transform the Union into a climate- neutral society while leaving no one behin2d (European Commission, 2019). The goal of this paper is to prove the hypothesis that there is a strong con- nection between all three variables- National Innovation Capacity, Eco- nomic growth and Sustainability

Prosodic characteristics of the acoustic signal in Serbian and emotion recognition

    No full text
The study focuses on the process of emotional recognition based on prosodic characteristics of acoustic signal in Serbian. Its main objective is to answer the question of the success of prosodic recognition of several emotions in Serbian. Furthermore, it explores whether the success in recognizing emotions in Serbian varies with regards to the following variables: the type of emotion, gender and the type of sentence. A total of 25 participants of average age around 23 participated in the study. The data was created by using Praat software for speech analysis. The results show general success in recognizing emotions on the level of M=12.43 (SD= 6.11). The participants were the most successful in recognizing the emotion of happiness, and the least successful in recognizing sadness. Post hoc analysis found a statistically significant difference in recognizing happiness and emotions of the negative spectrum (sadness, boredom, anger and fear). The results are discussed from the point of social functions of emotions, as well as the characteristics of the affective prosody in Serbian, with recognition of inevitable methodological limitations. Post hoc analiza ukazuje na statistički značajne razlike u prepoznavanju emocije sreća i emocija negativnog spektra (tuga, dosada, bes i strah).

The universality of facial expressions: the interplay between biology and culture

    No full text
The majority of people almost effortlessly read emotions based on the facial expressions of other people. Numerous studies suggest that even newborns are showing interest in faces and facial expressions suggesting that this ability might be relevant from the evolutionary standpoint. This is additionally supported by cross-cultural studies that clearly demonstrate the existence of a limited number of basic emotions which are universal. Furthermore, the influence of culture and the living environment is evident regarding emotional display and recognition accuracy. From a developmental standpoint, available data suggest that the development of facial expressions recognition could be described by an inverted U curve. Starting from childhood through adulthood, we are developing the same sort of expertise in facial expression recognition. Later, with aging, the recognition of particular expressions is declining. The exact underlying mechanisms that play a role here are not fully grasped yet. In this review, we shortly summarized previous studies that investigated the universality of facial expressions and cultural effects on facial expressions recognition. Furthermore, the potential developmental courses were explained and some of the open questions were outlined regarding this topicVećina ljudi bez ikakvog napora može da prepozna emocije na osnovu facijalne ekspresije drugih ljudi.

Political Еconomy of Disinflation : the Case of EMU

Impact of Physical Fitness on Emergency Response : A Case Study of Factors That Influence Individual Responses to Emergencies among University Students

    No full text
    (1) Background: The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether there is a direct correlation between the physical fitness of the general population, specifically students, and the response times to fire-emergency-related building evacuations and to identify which physical fitness factors more significantly influenced emergency movement times. (2) Methods: In this quantitative investigation, 21 students (both men and women of the same age) volunteered to participate. We first evaluated their physical fitness; then, we analyzed their reaction times and speed. (3) Results: The results of this study revealed a relationship between emergency response times and evaluations of muscular strength, muscular endurance, muscle power, cardiorespiratory fitness, and body compo- sition. The physically active group demonstrated a stronger initial response (i.e., a shorter time to reach a safe location) to fictitious emergency scenarios. The reduction in the necessary response time did not, however, appear to be related to the degree of flexibility. (4) Conclusions: This study showed how physical fitness might alter initial emergency response times and lessen the effects of a disaster on the general population

The effect of T.harzianum on micronutrient content of tomato cultivars grown under coventional and organic farming

    No full text
Positive influence of Trichoderma spp. on plants is recognized as stimulation of plant growth, induction of plant defence mechanisms and improvement of plant fruit quaility. In terms of sustaining healthy and nutritional value diet, importance of micro and macronutrients contents in vegetables is highly important factor. Tomato as one of the most consumed vegetables is important source of vitamins, minerals, dietary fibers and bioactive compounds in human nutrition. Aim of this research was to study micronutrient concetration of two tomato genotypes, Narvik and Gružanski zlatni in presence of T.harzianum SZMC22660. Plants were grown under 3 different growing conditions: conventional farming in greenhouse, organic farming in greenhouse and organic farming in the field. The concentration of As, Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn in red ripe tomato fruits was determined by ICP-OES method. Results showed that among different treatments the highest contents of Cd, Cu and Fe were found in fruits of both tomato cultivars grown under organic farming system in the greenhouse. In the same farming conditions, Trichoderma presence affected content of Fe and Zn. The content of Fe in the fruit increased by almost 50 %, whereas the content of Zn decreased also for 50 % in both tomato cultivars. Content of As, Cd, Co and Pb was below the detection limit, for all three treatments. Our results suggest that Trichoderma application improves the quality of tomato fruits in both types of farming systems, conventional and organic. Further examinations on a larger scale of tomato cultivars are necessary.
