No full textThe jubilee monograph Scientific Schools and Research Directions at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, University of Łódź: The Present and the Future has been prepared to mark the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Łódź—one of the most interdisciplinary academic units in Poland. The publication summarizes the Faculty’s scientific, research, and teaching achievements between 2015 and 2025, highlighting its development in the context of transformations in higher education. The editors and authors of the chapters describing the activities of individual institutes emphasize the continuity of scientific traditions combined with openness to new research areas, international collaboration, and the implementation of innovative teaching methods. The monograph presents eight institutes operating within the Faculty, describing their structure, leading research directions, cooperation with the socio-economic environment, contributions to the development of economic and sociological sciences, and the scholarly achievements of individual researchers. The publication also underscores the Faculty’s role as a hub integrating various scientific schools, educating students in over twenty study programmes, and maintaining broad cooperation with external partners. The work discusses the challenges faced by universities in 2025. The monograph thus serves not only as a summary of six decades of the Faculty’s activities but also as an inspiration for reflection on the future of science and the role of universities in a world undergoing rapid transformation.Monografia jubileuszowa Szkoły naukowe i kierunki badań na Wydziale Ekonomiczno-Socjologicznym Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. Dlaczego śmierć może być dobra
No full textThe publication Why Death Can Be Good fits into the interdisciplinary trend of death studies, making a significant contribution to the reflection on how individuals and communities experience the loss of bonds, give them meaning through symbolic processing, and embed them within cultural and social structures. The author uses a posthumanist perspective that goes beyond the traditional, anthropocentric way of understanding death and mourning—as an experience available in a conscious and sentient way only to human beings. At the center of the considerations is an attempt to redefine death as a phenomenon that is not only inevitable, but also potentially good—enabling transformation and cultural reworking.
Death and mourning are presented here as processes that are, on the one hand, psychologically individualized, and on the other—strongly socially conditioned. The author emphasizes that their analysis requires taking into account the social context: applicable norms, gender roles, rites of passage and dominant narratives regarding dying. This approach allows us to go beyond the dominant psychological models that view mourning as a universal process inscribed in stages or phases, and to see its cultural diversity and the socially regulated framework for experiencing loss.
The publication has both cognitive value, important for researchers dealing with the subject of death, and practical value—especially for people working in the areas of social welfare, education, palliative medicine or hospice care. The book sensitizes us to the need to restore mourning to its rightful place in social reflection and community practices.Publikacja Dlaczego śmierć może być dobra wpisuje się w interdyscyplinarny nurt badań nad śmiercią i przemijaniem (ang. death studies), wnosząc istotny wkład w refleksję nad tym, jak jednostki i wspólnoty doświadczają utraty więzi, nadają jej sens poprzez symboliczne przetwarzanie oraz osadzają w ramach kulturowych i społecznych struktur. Autorka proponuje perspektywę posthumanistyczną, przekraczającą tradycyjny, antropocentryczny sposób ujmowania śmierci i żałoby – jako doświadczenia dostępnego w sposób uświadomiony i czujący wyłącznie istotom ludzkim. W centrum rozważań znajduje się próba redefinicji śmierci jako zjawiska nie tylko nieuniknionego, lecz także potencjalnie dobrego – umożliwiającego transformację i kulturowe przepracowanie.
Śmierć i żałoba zostały tu przedstawione jako procesy z jednej strony psychologicznie zindywidualizowane, z drugiej – silnie uwarunkowane społecznie. Autorka podkreśla, że ich analiza wymaga uwzględnienia kontekstu społecznego: obowiązujących norm, ról płciowych, rytuałów przejścia oraz dominujących narracji dotyczących umierania. No full textWspółczesne otoczenie rynkowe charakteryzuje się wysokim poziomem niepewności: ekonomicznej, społecznej, technologicznej czy politycznej, co wymusza na przedsiębiorcach elastyczne podejście do podejmowania decyzji. W takich warunkach stosowanie jedynie metod opartych o prognozowanie okazuje się być dla współczesnych przedsiębiorców niewystarczające. Coraz częściej zwraca się uwagę na dwie logiki decyzyjne: kauzalną, opartą na planowaniu, oraz efektuacyjną, opartą na elastycznym wykorzystaniu dostępnych zasobów. Szczególne znaczenie efektuacja ma w kontekście mikro i małych przedsiębiorstw, które funkcjonują przy ograniczonych zasobach i muszą reagować adaptacyjnie. Mimo rosnącego zainteresowania efektuacją, w literaturze istnieją luki poznawcze dotyczące jej zastosowania w późniejszych fazach rozwoju firm oraz jej wpływu na wyniki operacyjne. Celem monografii jest zbadanie wpływu warunków otoczenia i fazy rozwoju firmy na podejście decyzyjne mikro i małych przedsiębiorców. Sformułowano pytania badawcze oraz hipotezy dotyczące zależności między poziomem niepewności, fazą rozwoju, podejściem decyzyjnym i wynikami firm. Badanie przeprowadzono metodą CATI wśród 412 polskich przedsiębiorców. Struktura publikacji obejmuje: teoretyczne podstawy niepewności i decyzji, metodykę badawczą oraz analizę wyników. W zakończeniu przedstawiono wnioski, praktyczne implikacje oraz kierunki przyszłych badań
