    On the false ontological consensus

    Get PDF
The objective of the research was to check whether False Consensus Effect (FCE), shown in much research, is also valid for ontological decisions. Test participants, faced with an ontological dilemma, made a choice three times, which of the 3 item set (Cracow City, Me myself, the Universe) refers to something most real. The research conducted first among psychology students (N=116), then replicated on mathematics students (N=126) and middle-aged people (N=106). Results: 1) All groups chose the Universe most seldom (4%-11% subjects), the remaining two “objects” were chosen with similar frequency, 2) FCE occurred in all groups and in reference to each choice, 3) with people who made inconsequent choices (16% of test participants), FCE was notably higher (p <.001) in comparison to people making consequent choices, 4) FCE with inconsequent people turned out to be higher (p <.01) even in comparison with “the smallest minority”, people who (consequently) chose the Universe

    No full text
The subject of interest in the article are the names of trees appearing in Europe, commonly used in Polish elaborations. An analysis was conducted on the adjectives being a part of the binominal names, describing the species name (cedr atlantycki – Cedrus atlantica, jałowiec pospolity – Juniperus communis, sosna pospolita – Pinus sylvestris). The aim of this article is to create their formal and semantic typology

Speech, language and communication : an important space of special geragogics

Afazja powoduje trudności w konwersacji i komunikacji interpersonalnej. The subject of this paper is speech, language and communication of elderly people, which is sometimes marked by disease and/or by disability. European society is rapidly ageing. Thirty years ago Europe was named “oldish Europe”, today is “an old man of the world.” The Polish population today is “the most quickly ageing society in Europe…”. The paper presents real demographic, medical, and social problems – i.e. the health condition of the oldest generation. The last decades have brought a new gerontological and linguistic category called elderspeak. In vascular and neurodegenerational illnesses we have four “A”: Amnesia, Agnosia, Apraxia, and Aphasia. Aphasia makes difficult conversation and interpersonal communication. Paul Grice formulated many years ago the classic principles of cooperative conversation and communication: – the quantity of information, – the quality of information, that is the validity or the meaning of messages, and – reference, that is relation to a sick person. The paper ends with the conclusion that in the future it is necessary to create – on the ground of special geragogics – a new field of logopaedics – gerontologopaedics, and above all to create at Polish universities postgraduate studies in gerontologopaedics

The conditions of language development are changing because of social and civilization changes. The first language experiences are very important to children, in their further language development and successes in their education. The goal of my research was to check how contemporary children acquire the phonetic-phonological system, how they deal with pronunciation of Polish phonemes. I did research on phonemes which should appear in early stages of child's development (ś, ź, ć, dź, s, z, c, dz, I). Apart from that, I checked the children’s pronunciation of phonemes which are more difficult to realize and which appear in later stages of language development (sz, ż, cz, dż, r). I did my research with children in two groups: children who are 3 now, and they will have to go to school when they will be 6, and the second group - children who are 6 now and they have two options - it means that they can go to school now (when they are 6) or they can go to school next year, when they will be 7. The results of my experiments show that the level of development of phonetic-phonological system in preschool children at the age of 3 and 5 is lawer than the developmental model
