    Interplay of Analysis and Probability in Applied Mathematics

    This workshop continued to foster the collaboration between researchers working in analysis and probability, respectively. Some core areas, in which this happens with high success, belong to the objectives of this meeting: stochastic homogenization of various quantities in random media and random operators, metastability in several particle models with stochastic input that are triggered by physics reasonings, emergence of macroscopic effects in large random structures like graphs or permutations. A main feature present was the exploration of the benefit of a high-level combination of methods from both fields: analysis and probability

    Strongly Correlated Random Interacting Processes

    The focus of the workshop was to discuss the recent developments and future research directions in the area of large scale random interacting processes, with main emphasis in models where local microscopic interactions either produce strong correlations at macroscopic levels, or generate non-equilibrium dynamics. This report contains extended abstracts of the presentations, which featured research in several directions including selfinteracting random walks, spatially growing processes, strongly dependent percolation, spin systems with long-range order, and random permutations

    On the Invariants of the Cohomology of Complements of Coxeter Arrangements

    We refine Brieskorn's study of the cohomology of the complement of the reflection arrangement of a finite Coxeter group W. As a result we complete the verification of a conjecture by Felder and Veselov that gives an explicit basis of the space of W-invariants in this cohomology ring

    Global Variants of Hartogs' Theorem

    Hartogs' theorem asserts that a separately holomorphic function, defined on an open subset of Cn\mathbb{C}^n, is holomorphic in all the variables. We prove a global variant of this theorem for functions defined on an open subset of the product of complex algebraic manifolds. We also obtain global Hartogs-type theorems for complex Nash functions and complex regular functions

    Mathematical Theory of Evolutionary Fluid-Flow Structure Interactions

    This book is devoted to the study of coupled partial differential equation models, which describe complex dynamical systems occurring in modern scientific applications such as fluid/flow-structure interactions. The first chapter provides a general description of a fluid-structure interaction, which is formulated within a realistic framework, where the structure subject to a frictional damping moves within the fluid. The second chapter then offers a multifaceted description, with often surprising results, of the case of the static interface; a case that is argued in the literature to be a good model for small, rapid oscillations of the structure. The third chapter describes flow-structure interaction where the compressible Navier-Stokes equations are replaced by the linearized Euler equation, while the solid is taken as a nonlinear plate, which oscillates in the surrounding gas flow. The final chapter focuses on a the equations of nonlinear acoustics coupled with linear acoustics or elasticity, as they arise in the context of high intensity ultrasound applications

    Metric Connections with Parallel Skew-Symmetric Torsion

    A geometry with parallel skew-symmetric torsion is a Riemannian manifold carrying a metric connection with parallel skew-symmetric torsion. Besides the trivial case of the Levi-Civita connection, geometries with non-vanishing parallel skew-symmetric torsion arise naturally in several geometric contexts, e.g. on naturally reductive homogeneous spaces, nearly Kähler or nearly parallel G2-manifolds, Sasakian and 3-Sasakian manifolds, or twistor spaces over quaternion-Kähler manifolds with positive scalar curvature. In this paper we study the local structure of Riemannian manifolds carrying a metric connection with parallel skew-symmetric torsion. On every such manifold one can define a natural splitting of the tangent bundle which gives rise to a Riemannian submersion over a geometry with parallel skew-symmetric torsion of smaller dimension endowed with some extra structure. We show how previously known examples of geometries with parallel skew-symmetric torsion fit into this pattern, and construct several new examples. In the particular case where the above Riemannian submersion has the structure of a principal bundle, we give the complete local classification of the corresponding geometries with parallel skew-symmetric torsion

    Generalized Vector Cross Products and Killing Forms on Negatively Curved Manifolds

    Motivated by the study of Killing forms on compact Riemannian manifolds of negative sectional curvature, we introduce the notion of generalized vector cross products on Rn\mathbb{R}^n and give their classification. Using previous results about Killing tensors on negatively curved manifolds and a new characterization of SU(3)\mathrm{SU}(3)-structures in dimension 66 whose associated 33-form is Killing, we then show that every Killing 33-form on a compact nn-dimensional Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature vanishes if n4n\ge 4

    The Martin Boundary of Relatively Hyperbolic Groups with Virtually Abelian Parabolic Subgroups

    Given a probability measure on a finitely generated group, its Martin boundary is a way to compactify the group using the Green's function of the corresponding random walk. We give a complete topological characterization of the Martin boundary of finitely supported random walks on relatively hyperbolic groups with virtually abelian parabolic subgroups. In particular, in the case of nonuniform lattices in the real hyperbolic space Hn{\mathcal H}^n, we show that the Martin boundary coincides with the CAT(0)CAT(0) boundary of the truncated space, and thus when n = 3, is homeomorphic to the Sierpinski carpet

    Interactions between Operator Space Theory and Quantum Probability with Applications to Quantum Information

The talks at our meeting investigated the interactions of operator space theory with operator algebras and other areas of functional analysis, with classical and quantum probability, with noncommutative harmonic analysis, and, in particular, with quantum information theory

    Mini-Workshop: Positional Games

    This mini-workshop focused on Positional Games and related fields. Positional Games Theory is a branch of Combinatorics whose main aim is to systematically develop an extensive mathematical basis for a variety of two-player games of perfect information and without chance moves, usually played on discrete objects. These include popular recreational games such as Tic-Tac-Toe and Hex as well as purely abstract games played on graphs and hypergraphs. Though a close relative of the classical Game Theory of von Neumann and of Nim-like games, popularized by Conway and others, Positional Games are quite different and are more of a combinatorial nature. The subject is strongly related to several other branches of Combinatorics like Ramsey Theory, Extremal Graph and Set Theory, and the Probabilistic Method. It has also proven to be instrumental in deriving central results in Theoretical Computer Science, in particular in derandomization and algorithmization of important probabilistic tools.
