The paper "Determinants of spread in Islamic securitisation market: empirical evidence from Malaysia" presented at 16th Malaysian Finance Association Conference (MFA2014) at Sasana Kijang Central Bank of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur
Energy consumption, income and carbon emission nexus: the case of Asia Pacific countries
This research paper attempts to empirically examine the short-run and long-run causal relationship between income level, energy consumption and carbon emission. Trade openness and urbanization is also included to act as control variables
Viability of GDP linked sovereign paper as replacement of sovereign debt: a shariah compatible risk sharing approach
Over the past decades much effort and research has gone into establishing a viable set of Islamic financial institutions. An area of utmost importance, which still has gaping holes, is the development of instruments for government financing on a global level. Most developing countries including the bulk of Muslim nations, are heavily indebted with high reliance on multilateral financing primarily based on high interest rates. This vicious cycle of interest rates and debt have stunted the growth of these nations and worsened the conditions of the masses. This research brings to the forefront the concept of an equity in nature GDP linked paper, which allows for enhanced risk sharing based sovereign financing ..
Priority of waqf development among Malaysian cash waqf donors: an AHP approach
The practise of cash waqf is increasingly gaining popularity among the Malaysian Muslim. Waqf institutions (SIRCs) are responsible to utilise the collection of cash waqf to develop relevant projects in order to benefit the society in general. The purpose of this study is to explore the cash Waqf donors’ priority toward what types of development that fulfilled the current need of the society. Hence, to accomplish this purpose; thirty (30) Muslim employees who have contributed cash Waqf were interviewed. This study employs analytical hierarchy process (AHP) analysis to identify the rank of the developments that priorities by donors. The result shows that the cash waqf contributors prefer to channel their money for Waqf development in the following rank order: (1) education, (2) health, (3) masjid and madrasah, (4) social-care and welfare (5) trade and commerce (6) environment (7) infrastructure and (8) art, culture and heritage
Path integrals and Hamiltonians : principles and methods
Providing a pedagogical introduction to the essential principles of path integrals and Hamiltonians, this book describes cutting-edge quantum mathematical techniques applicable to a vast range of fields, from quantum mechanics, solid state physics, statistical mechanics, quantum field theory, and superstring theory to financial modeling, polymers, biology, chemistry, and quantum finance. Eschewing use of the Schrodinger equation, the powerful and flexible combination of Hamiltonian operators and path integrals is used to study a range of different quantum and classical random systems, succinctly demonstrating the interplay between a system's path integral, state space, and Hamiltonian. With a practical emphasis on the methodological and mathematical aspects of each derivation, this is a perfect introduction to these versatile mathematical methods, suitable for researchers and graduate students in physics and engineering
Waqf-shares: new product to finance old waqf properties
This paper highlights the practice of waqf-shares in five Muslim and Muslim minority countries for the last two decades. With the urge needs for capital to re-develop the old waqf properties in the different countries it is much recommended to introduce the concept of waqf-share as fund raising to improve and to upgrade the current situation of these properties so that they can deliver the suspected services needed in the different societies. Besides, proposing this type of waqf-share will motivate founders from all categories of people to contribute directly in re-developing the old waqf properties with the least amount of money they can afford to give and seeking the compound rewards in the hereafter. To achieve this, an overview on waqf-share and its current application in five countries are highlighted; the structure of waqf-share and its
modus operandi are provided as a guideline for its creation and management, this is followed by the conclusion
Risk and regulation of Islamic banking
From a single product offering in 1963, the Islamic financial services industry has grown to an estimated $1.6 trillion in assets. Products must comply with profit and risk-sharing criteria and regulations preventing banks from venturing into activities with high risk and excessive uncertainty. This timely volume analyses these matters and considers the range of new products, discussing both conceptual and practical dimensions

Is domestic stock price cointegrated with exchange rate and foreign stock price? Evidence from Malaysia
The growth of the financial sector of an economy such as, the stock market is usually found to be highly correlated with the growth of the real sector of an economy. In this study, we make an attempt to investigate whether there is any significant relationship between the stock prices, macroeconomic variables and foreign stock prices in an economy. Using the Malaysian quarterly data from 1991–2010 and the time series techniques such as, cointegration, long run structural modeling, vector error correction, variance decompositions, impulse response functions, and persistence profile approaches, we evidence a significant statistical relationship existing between the Malaysian stock prices, exchange rate and foreign stock prices with the exchange rate being the most leading variable. We also found evidence of negative impact of the Asian Financial Crisis on Malaysian stock prices in the short run. The results appear to be plausible and contain strong policy implications
Adapting mudarabah financing to contemporary realities: a proposed financing structure
Islamic banking in Malaysia, despite its recent start, has seen very rapid growth. This growth however has beem uneven. While short-term trade financing has always been dominant and grown rapidly, Mudarabah financing by Islamic banks in Malaysia has reduced to insignificant amounts. Yet, Mudarabah which is based on profit and loss sharing has always been considered to be at the core of Islamic financing and in tune with the shariah's injunctions against interest based financin
