    Nota sobre Bursera heteresthes (Burseraceae)

    Get PDF

Lectotypification of Didymaea mexicana Hook. f. (Rubiaceae, Rubieae) and the identity of D. alsinoides (Schltdl. & Cham.) Standl.

    Get PDF
El nombre Didymaea alsinoides (Schltdl. & Cham).

A comparative study of Odonata (Insecta) assemblages along an altitudinal gradient in the sierra de Coalcomán Mountains, Michoacán, Mexico

    Get PDF
Odonate diversity in the Coalcomán Mountain Range (CMR), Michoacán State, Mexico, was surveyed, and samplings were made during 2 years in eight streams along an altitudinal gradient. Presence?absence data were analyzed using non-parametric and parametric methods. Beta and gamma diversities were estimated using Whittaker?s and Lande?s formulae, respectively. A total of 2,526 adults and 489 larvae were captured, yielding 116 species (c diversity), 44 genera and 9 families. Five new species were dis- covered. The genus Argia was the most important contributor to Zygoptera diversity and total richness (y diversity), yielding 40.4 and 14.7%, respectively. The non-parametric estimator Chao2 provided the closest theoretical estimate of species richness, and Clench?s model fit the data well (R2 ranged from 99.44 to 99.99) to explain a high proportion of the variance (98.8). We conclude that beta diversity is important at the landscape scale, supporting the hypothesis that Mexico is a beta diverse country. Our results triple the number of known species of Odonata for Michoacán. Given the considerable richness of odonates at local and landscape scales, our results support the proposal of the Coalcomán Mountain Range as a priority area for conservation and related research

Two new species of Amnestus from Guatemala, with new records for some other Guatemalan burrower bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cydnidae)

    Get PDF
In this paper we describe two new species in the genus Amnestus, Amnestus henryi and Amnestus zacki, and we register new localities for 10 species of burrowing bugs for the fauna of Guatemala; two of these species correspond to new records, Amnestus pusio (Stål), and Dallasiellus reflexus Froeschner. We include a brief description of the 28 species known for Guatemala, mentioning old and new records; new species are fully described and illustrated, and drawings of the male genitalia, scent gland opening, fore, and hind legs of males are also presented. A key to separate the 28 Guatemalan species of burrower bugs is provided

    Get PDF
Lonchocarpus

PROSTHECHEA MADRENSIS, A RECONSIDERATION OF EPIDENDRUM MADRENSE SCHLTR.(ORCHIDACEAE: LAELIINAE)

    Get PDF
EPIDENDRUM MADRENSE, TRADITIONALLY TREATED UNDER THE SYNONYMY OF PROSTHECHEA CHACAOENSIS, IS RECOGNIZED AS A DISTINCT SPECIES AND TRANSFERRED TO PROSTHECHEA. THE NUMBER, LENGTH, AND SHAPE OF THE NECTAR GUIDES ON THE LABELLUM ARE USEFUL TAXONOMIC CHARACTERS TO DISTINGUISH CLOSELY RELATED SPECIES IN PROSTHECHE

New Genus and three new species of leaf-litter-inhabiting Ozophorini (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Lygaeoidea: Rhyparochromidae: Rhyparochrominae)

    Get PDF
One new genus, Pseudomenotelus from Mexico, is proposed within Lygaeoidea (Ozophorini) based on the new species P. oculatus from the state of Chiapas in Mexico. In addition, two new species from Honduras are described in the genus Pseudomenus, P. hondurensis and P. olanchus, each belonging to Ozophorini. A key to the Mexican genera of Ozophorini is included, as well as a key to the known species of Pseudomenus. All taxa here reported are leaf-litterÐinhabiting and were collected in mesophilous forest

Identity and delimitation of the American species of Litsea Lam. (Lauraceae): a morphological approach.

    Get PDF
The genus Litsea in America is a small group of species with high variability that has not been evaluated rigorously; authors recognize either three or as many as 11 species because of the unclear delimitation of taxa. Our focus in this study was to resolve the number, names, and distinguishing features of the American species of Litsea, based on strict morphological analyses, namely Population aggregation analysis and Multivariate analyses. Population aggregation analysis revealed a large number of polymorphisms in all populations; nevertheless, L. aestivalis was distinguished from the other species. Ordination of character variability by principal components analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling supported the distinction of seven additional species. Finally, eight species of Litsea are recognized in America and a key for their identification is provided
