    Pose Based Start Intention Detection of Cyclists

    In this work, we present a new approach for start intention detection of cyclists based on 3D human pose estimation to increase their safety in road traffic. Start intention detection is realized using sequences of frame-wise estimated 3D poses. The poses were obtained by image sequences recorded by a stereo camera mounted behind the windshield of a moving vehicle. For training and evaluation, a dataset with 206 starting cyclists was created in real traffic. We demonstrate the advantages of this approach by comparing it to an existing, solely head trajectory based method. In particular, we investigate the performance for different observed time horizons ranging from 0.12 s up to 1.0 s as inputs for the two methods. This is of special importance for the protection of cyclists in road traffic, as they often only become visible to approaching vehicles shortly before dangerous situations occur. With an input length of 1.0 s the solely head trajectory based approach detects starting motions on average 0.834 s after the first motion of the bicycle with an F1-score of 97.5 %. The pose based approach outperforms these results by achieving the same F1-score 0.135 s earlier. The advantages of the pose based method become even more obvious with shorter input lengths. With an input length of 0.12 s, the head based approach achieves an F1-score of 93.5 % after 2.37 s, while the same score is reached after 0.668 s using poses

Durch Kombination dieser fluktuierenden Erzeugung zum Beispiel aus Photovoltaik oder Windenergie mit flexibler Erzeugung aus Biogas in einem virtuellen Kraftwerk können diese Herausforderungen jedoch gelöst werden. Geeignete Technologien und IKT-Infrastrukturen vorausgesetzt, können erneuerbare Energien damit künftig zu einer verlässlichen Stromerzeugung werden

    Mechanisms and Challenges for Understanding Radiation Induced Changes in Chromatin Nanoarchitecture

    The three-dimensional architecture of genomes acts as an additional level of mode for fundamental biological processes such as DNA damage response. In this context, nanoprobing and super-resolution microscopy are powerful methods for structural analyses of genomic targets in native chromatin of single cells at resolutions of single antibodies, proteins, histones, short DNA stretches, etc. We used multi-color chromatin nanoprobing and single molecule localization microscopy of established DNA damage and chromatin markers in 3D-conserved nuclei of different cell types exposed to various types and doses of ionizing radiation. Similarly, effect of gold nanoparticles on extent and direction of cellular radiation response was assessed. Our studies revealed the nanoarchitecture of damage foci with respect to γH2AX, Mre11 or 53BP1 and their molecular rearrangements during repair processes. Nanoscopy of genomic Alu resulted in linear-quadratic dose-effects for low to higher dose ranges and in changes of H3K9me3 distribution around Alu clusters upon radiation exposure. Preliminary results show post-irradiation time dependent changes in Alu chromatin. Moreover, gold nanoparticles incorporated into cells seem to act by an interplay of radiation enhancement and chromatin remodeling leading to altered radiosensitivity. Our results contribute to the understanding of cellular radiation responses, thereby laying the basis for improved biological dosimetry and radiotherapies in future.Poste

    Segmented infrared filters for the 1.3m telescope in the Slovak Tatra Mountains

    Since 2015, the Astronomical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (AI SAS) is operating a modern EU-funded reflecting telescope with a 130 cm primary mirror, located in the Skalnaté Pleso Observatory in the Tatra Mountains at an altitude of 1783 m. In 2018, the funding agency BAYHOST granted the proposed project SLOBATCO to Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences. The cooperation project pursues the development of astronomical NIR filters, which are designed for the atmospheric transmission windows in the infrared spectral range. In order to avoid a complex cryogenic filter wheel for the NIR CCD camera operated at low temperatures, the observations should be realized through a segmented filter using precise shifts of the image field. The bi-national cooperation project and the specification of the infrared filter combination are presented in this poster contribution.Poste

    Integration of Bragg grating sensors in components made of carbon fiber reinforced polymers

    This contribution discusses the integration of polymer planar Bragg grating sensors (PPBG) into carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) components. For the first time, it is shown that PPBGs based on cyclic olefin copolymers can be integrated into commercial-grade composites, thereby withstanding the demanding production processes. Pre-impregnated fibers are stacked and partially modified to form a sensor pocket. Afterwards, the CFRP specimen containing the optical sensor is cured in a heated mechanical press for 2 hours at a pressure of 7 bar and a temperature of 120 °C. A subsequent evalutaion of the sensor signal shows a Bragg wavelength shift of 1236 pm and a decline in signal amplitude of -2 dB. Three-point flexural tests of the cured sample reveal a linear behavior of the sensor signal towards external loads. The determined sensitivity in dependence of the CFRP specimen's maximum central deflection is -112 pm/mm, while correlation to the applied force results in a sensitivity of -5 pm/N
