Advanced DC-charging Methods for Traction Drives with Dual Two-Level Inverter During Machine Operation

    No full text
This paper aims to present a concept and especially developed control methods for an open-end winding traction drive, powered by a dual two-level inverter, where the two separate energy sources can be charged via a DC grid during operation and while being standstill. For achieving a high quality DC-current, the parasitic Back-EMF harmonics of the electrical machine will be compensated. The application aims to achieve high utilisation of the electric vehicle in combination with a partly equipped trolley wire net

Does Microfinance have an impact on borrower’s consumption patterns and women’s empowerment?

    No full text
This paper conducts a thorough data analysis using cross-sectional data from a study carried out in Mexico including over 16,500 observations. In the study, clusters were selected in areas Compartamos Banco, a Microfinance institution (MFI), has not lent in before. The clusters were randomly assigned to either the treatment or the control group. The analysis suggests that Microfinance has a significant positive effect on school and food expenditure but no apparent effect on entrepreneurship. Using regression analysis, a significant positive effect on women’s empowerment and its positive effect on total consumption is found

Monitoring of Composite Bicycle Components using Polymer Planar Bragg Gratings

    No full text
This study demonstrates mobile load monitoring of a composite bicycle component using an application- customized polymer planar Bragg grating sensor, evaluated by a mobile interrogation unit. After a referencing procedure, the mechanical load of a seat post is monitored while cycling through a test track

Low-density coatings for enhanced X-ray reflectivity of astronomical telescope mirrors

    No full text
X-ray telescopes usually operate in space and are quite different from astronomical telescopes for visible light. For normal angles of incidence, optical light is reflected on the mirror surface, whereas X-rays are either transmitted or absorbed. However, also high reflectivity X-rays mirrors are possible, when the incident rays direction is almost parallel to the mirror surface. Such grazing incidence mirrors are usually coated with thin layers of precious metals like iridium, gold or platinum, as this result in high X-ray reflectivity. These noble metals offer a wide range of reflection up to high photon energies, but, due to a series of absorption edges, have low reflectivity in the 2 - 4 keV band and below. This contribution presents the development of innovative material combinations based on thin layers of iridium and chromium, followed by an additional layer of carbon-based materials. We also discuss corresponding production methods (like dip coating) for enhanced reflectivity mirror coatings of future X-ray telescopes.Poste
