El tiempo que resta en La naturaleza secreta de las cosas de este mundo de Patricio Pron
No full textThe article analyzes the concept of time in La naturaleza secreta de las cosas de este mundo (2023) by Patricio Pron, employing the critical categories proposed by Gior-gio Agamben in The Time that Remains (2000): operational time, katargéo, use, and citation. The novel’s structure introduces the reader to the “time of the end”, a temporality that, according to the hypothesis formulated here, defines the Anthropocene era. The essay argues that literature possesses a unique ability not only to re- present this temporality, but also to activate it through attentive reading, a purpose that Pron deliberately explores and strengthens in his work. Additionally, the article examines how the perception of the “time of the end” shapes the characters’ essential attitudes, guiding them toward transgressive forms of everyday existence.El artículo examina el concepto de tiempo en La naturaleza secreta de las cosas de este mundo (2023) de Patricio Pron, a través de las categorías críticas propuestas por Gior-gio Agamben en El tiempo que resta (2000): tiempo operativo, katargéo, uso y cita. Se argumenta que la estructura de la novela introduce al lector en una experiencia del “tiempo del final”, una forma de temporalidad que, según se sostiene, define la condición histórica del Antropoceno. El estudio defiende que la literatura posee una capacidad singular no solo para problematizar esta dimensión temporal, sino también para activarla en la conciencia del lector mediante una práctica de lectura reflexiva y atenta, objetivo que Pron desarrolla de forma deliberada. Asimismo, se analiza cómo la percepción del “tiempo del final” transforma las disposiciones de los personajes, orientándolos hacia formas de vida éticamente transgresoras
Internet e eleições na América Latina:: percepções dos profissionais de campanha
No full textThis article analyzes the perceptions of campaign professionals regarding the impacts of digital media on elections in Latin America, based on 54 semi-structured interviews conducted between 2020 and 2023. The findings are organized into three main themes: democratization, disinformation, and segmentation. Democratization is linked to the expansion of citizen voice and participation, as well as greater balance among the campaigns. Disinformation has shifted from a strategic resource to a disruptive factor in the electoral environment and campaign operations, and segmentation has been identified as a structural trend toward hyper-personalization driven by algorithms and big data. The study offers a Latin American perspective and highlights the voice of an actor rarely explored in discussions of digital campaigns and democracy.Este artículo analiza las percepciones de los profesionales de campaña sobre el impacto de los medios digitales en las elecciones en América Latina a partir de 54 entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas entre 2020 y 2023. Los resultados se organizan en tres temas centrales: democratización, desinformación y segmentación. La democratización se asocia con la expansión de la voz y la participación ciudadanas, así como con un mayor equilibrio entre campañas. La desinformación ha pasado de ser un recurso estratégico a un factor disruptivo en el entorno electoral y el trabajo de campaña, y la segmentación se ha identificado como una tendencia estructural hacia la hiperpersonalización basada en algoritmos y Big data. El estudio aporta una perspectiva latinoamericana y la voz de un actor poco explorado en el debate sobre campañas digitales y democracia.Este artigo analisa as percepções dos profissionais de campanha sobre o impacto dos meios digitais nas eleições na América Latina com base em 54 entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas entre 2020 e 2023. Os resultados são organizados em três temas centrais: democratização, desinformação e segmentação. A democratização está associada à ampliação da voz e da participação cidadãs, bem como a um maior equilíbrio entre as campanhas. A desinformação passou de ser um recurso estratégico a um fator disruptivo no ambiente eleitoral e no trabalho de campanha, e a segmentação foi identificada como uma tendência estrutural em direção à hiperpersonalização baseada em algoritmos e Big Data. O estudo contribui com uma perspectiva latino-americana e a voz de um ator pouco explorado no debate sobre campanhas digitais e democracia
Antes de la alteridad: la conciencia moral como agencia del valor en Romano Guardini
No full textThis work proposes a phenomenological reading of Romano Guardini’s ethics, focusing on the relationship between moral conscience and value. Drawing on his Lessons on Ethics, it develops the notion of axiological agency, understood as the subject’s capacity to respond to the interpretation of the good through an exercise of inner detachment. In contrast with approaches that reduce morality to alterity, it argues that ethical experience involves an original apprehension of values, both in their realization and in their absence. This perspective makes it possible to rethink the meaning of duty, freedom, and responsibility from a relational standpoint.Este trabajo propone una lectura fenomenológica de la ética de Romano Guardini, centrada en la relación entre conciencia moral y valor. A partir de sus Lecciones de ética, se desarrolla la noción de agencia axiológica, entendida como la capacidad del sujeto para responder a la interpretación del bien desde un ejercicio de desprendimiento interior. Frente a enfoques que reducen la moral a la alteridad, se sostiene que la experiencia ética implica una captación originaria de valores, tanto en su realización como en su ausencia, lo que permite repensar el sentido del deber, la libertad y la responsabilidad desde una clave relacional
The Serpent and the Fire: intersections and disjunctions
No full textThis essay explores the different pathways of reading which Rothenberg and Taboada’s Anthology of Poetries of the Americas offers. Given the vastness of the geographical terrain and the long historical span proposed (from origins to the present), the capacity of this gathering to induce connections is astonishing. It offers a multiplicity of ways of reading across inherited lines of division (aesthetic, geographical), acts of reading which the chosen poetry energises. These articulations work not by association patterns or other kinds of flattening but by following through the occurrence of disjuncture inside intersections, and of connections within disjunction. The essay describes the large- and small-scale mappings and discusses how they intersect with two overall types of motion, the one consisting of what the editors call an “omnipoetics,” an expanded sense of what poetic art consists of, and the other of history in its relation with the imagination. The principle of comparability (“ all things come into their comparisons” —as Robert Duncan says) comes up against certain specific limits, these arising from the differential history of Latin America, and relating to the long span of colonialism in the South and to a stronger presence of the unrequited dead

Configuraciones granulares: Prestando atención a la política material del diseño planetario
No full textThis paper examines how planetary design is materially enacted through the granular politics of sand. Moving beyond abstract accounts of planetary entanglement, it traces how sand’s trajectories—across extraction zones, supply chains, and reclaimed coastlines—compose volatile and uneven urban futures. Drawing on research in Southeast Asia and the Netherlands, the paper shows how sand operates not merely as a construction input but as a medium of speculation, disruption, and socioecological harm. Through the lens of granular configurations, I develop a methodological framework that foregrounds friction, partiality, and multi-temporality in the making and unmaking of environments. This approach unsettles dominant narratives of design as coherent or systemically integrated, revealing instead its contingent, contested, and more-than-human formations. Attending to sand’s granular materiality opens new possibilities for situated, accountable, and reparative practices in an increasingly unstable world.Este artículo examina cómo el diseño planetario es enactado materialmente a través de la política granular de la arena. Desplazándose más allá de las descripciones abstractas del entrelazamiento planetario, rastrea el modo en que las trayectorias de la arena —a través de zonas de extracción, cadenas de suministro y costas ganadas al mar― componen futuros urbanos volátiles y desiguales. A partir de investigaciones realizadas en el Sudeste Asiático y los Países Bajos, el artículo muestra cómo la arena opera no solo como insumo para la construcción, sino también como medio de especulación, disrupción y daño socioecológico. A través del lente de las configuraciones granulares, desarrollo un marco metodológico que pone en primer plano la fricción, la parcialidad y la multitemporalidad en la creación y destrucción de los entornos. Este enfoque desestabiliza las narrativas dominantes del diseño que lo ven como algo coherente o sistémicamente integrado, revelando en cambio sus formaciones contingentes, disputadas y más-que-humanas. Prestar atención a la materialidad granular de la arena abre nuevas posibilidades para prácticas situadas, responsables y reparadoras en un mundo cada vez más inestable
