No full textความเชื่อเรื่องยันต์ที่แพร่กระจายอยู่ในประเทศไทยนั้นเป็นสิ่งที่มีมาช้านาน จากหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเอกสารโบราณ พระพิมพ์ หรือจารึก ช่วยให้เราสามารถตั้งสมมติฐานได้ว่า เลขยันต์ต่าง ๆ เกิดขึ้นมาหลายร้อยปีแล้ว และเมื่อวิเคราะห์ดูเนื้อหาสาระของระบบยันต์ก็พบว่า ยันต์ต่าง ๆ ที่เราเห็นอยู่ในปัจจุบันนี้ส่วนใหญ่ได้รับอิทธิพลจากพุทธศาสนามหายานและศาสนาพราหมณ์-ฮินดู ไม่เพียงแต่ความเหมือนกันในเรื่องรูปแบบ แม้แต่องค์ประกอบอื่น ๆ เช่น การเสกยันต์ การสร้างหรือเขียนยันต์ ก็เหมือนกัน ซึ่งทั้งนี้อาจเป็นเพราะในอดีตดินแดนต่าง ๆ ในบริเวณนี้เคยได้รับเอาอิทธิพลของคำสอนมหายานและพราหมณ์-ฮินดูเอาไว้ ดังนั้นหลักคำสอนที่สำคัญต่าง ๆ เช่น ศูนยตา ตรีกาย มณฑลของมหายานและรูปแบบของเทพเจ้าต่าง ๆ ของพราหมณ์-ฮินดู ก็มีปรากฏอยู่ในระบบยันต์
ในปัจจุบันยังมีเอกสารโบราณที่บันทึกเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับยันต์ต่าง ๆ ให้ศึกษาพอสมควร ทำให้พบเนื้อหาที่สอดคล้องกับหลักปฏิบัติของมหายานด้วย เช่น สมาธิเพ่งอักษร ซึ่งใช้ในการฝึกสร้างรูปแบบมณฑลในจิตซึ่งปรากฏในคัมภีร์ปถมัง ในคัมภีร์เดียวกันนี้ยังแสดงนัยยะเรื่องพระปัญจชินพุทธเจ้า และหลักศูนยตาอย่างชัดเจน ในปัจจุบันจะหาผู้ที่ศึกษาอย่างจริงจังได้น้อย มีเพียงการนำเอารูปแบบภายนอกไปประยุกต์ใช้เท่านั้นเอง ทำให้ไม่สามารถเข้าถึงปรัชญาที่แฝงเอาไว้ได้ทั้งที่ในความเป็นจริงแล้ว การจะทำยันต์สักยันต์หนึ่งต้องมีขั้นตอนต่าง ๆ มากมาย และไม่สามารถที่จะเรียนรู้ได้ทันทีทันใดได้ เพราะต้องอาศัยการฝึกฝนทางจิตเป็นปทัฏฐานเสียก่อน
ส่วนอิทธิพลของศาสนาพราหมณ์-ฮินดูนั้น ส่วนใหญ่จะเป็นเรื่องของรูปแบบของยันต์ที่มักจะนำเอารูปเทพเจ้าต่าง ๆ มาใช้ประกอบในยันต์ เช่น รูปพระนารายณ์ รูปหนุมาน รูปพาลี แต่ไม่ปรากฏว่ามีการนำปรัชญาที่ลึกซึ้ง อาทิ แนวคิดเรื่องปรมาตมันเข้ามาในระบบยันต์ด้วย อย่างไรก็ตาม มีความเป็นไปได้ว่า การนำเอาความเชื่อเรื่องยันต์ไปสัมพันธ์กับเรื่องอิทธิฤทธิ์ปาฏิหาริย์ก็เพื่อต้องการรักษาสารัตถะสำคัญบางอย่างเอาไว้ไม่ให้สูญหาย อย่างน้อยในเวลาต่อมา หากมีผู้สนใจศึกษาก็อาจจะได้พบปรัชญาเหล่านั้น อีกทั้งตราบใดที่ยังมีผู้ยึดถือปฏิบัติอยู่ สิ่งนั้นก็จะคงอยู่เช่นนั้น การศึกษาวิเคราะห์เรื่องยันต์จะสามารถทำให้เราเข้าใจถึงพัฒนาการและสาระสำคัญของสิ่งนี้The beliefs of Yantra, spread throughout this region have been developed for long time. According to ancient Yantra manuscripts, small Buddha images and inscriptions we can declare that Yantra systems began to be made hundreds of years ago. When its system has been analyzed we find that most of Yantra are based on Mahayana and Hindu believes. Though ancient Mahayana Buddhism and Hindu in this region now vanished, its influence still exists, especially in Yantra systems.
At present time, many old manuscripts are preserved so that we can learn from some of them. We find that some practices in Yantra systems are the same as in the high meditation of Mahayanan such as staring at the mantra letter. According to Patamung treatise, the practitioner must create the inner Yantra by staring and writing the Yantra many times. Moreover, it contains many important concepts of Mahayana Buddhism particularly the five Buddhas and Sunyata. For the influence of Hindu belief, on the other hand, only some forms of Hindu gods have been used in the Yantra systems. We have never found any Hindu philosophies in these systems. Nowadays people are rarely interested in studying Yantra system. People use only their forms. They are unable to understand the philosophy of Yantra and neglect metal practice which is the most important in these systems.
However, it is possible that the relating of Yantra to supernatural power was only stratagem of the ancient instructors to preserve the important concepts. At least some people may understand and gain advantages which are hidden beneath the supernatural elements. Research may discover the development and essential contents of Yantra
