The Role of Stakeholder Engagement in Advancing Environmental Sustainability at U.S. Airports
Get PDFAs the aviation industry faces intensifying environmental, regulatory, and societal pressures, airports are increasingly expected to implement sustainability initiatives aligned with national and international frameworks such as NEPA, VALE, and CORSIA. However, progress across U.S. airports remains uneven, often constrained not only by technical or financial limitations but also by the quality of stakeholder engagement. This study applies Stakeholder Theory and the Stakeholder Salience Model to examine how stakeholder power, legitimacy, and urgency influence sustainability implementation in diverse airport contexts. Using a qualitative multiple-case study design, the research investigates the roles of federal regulators, airport operators, airlines, and local communities in shaping environmental outcomes. Preliminary findings suggest that stakeholder alignment is a critical determinant of success, with implications for policy design, infrastructure planning, and participatory governance. The study contributes a stakeholder-centered framework to better understand and improve sustainability performance in the U.S. airport sector.

Joyful rampage: Embracing personalism, agency, and contribution in education

I assert that education is deeply personal and challenge the notion of objectivity that marginalizes agency. By centering relationships and mutual responsibility, we can promote an educational paradigm where joy, contribution, and human flourishing thrive. Grounded in concepts like eudaimonia and contributive ethics, a shift in education emphasizing belonging, community, and justice becomes a powerful possibility. I envision subversive communities that challenge oppressive systems and create space for meaningful, joyful learning
The power of a picture: Beginning the race dialogue in teacher educator prep with a cartoon
Get PDFDue to the endemic nature of racism in society, there is a need for open discussions on race and racism in teacher education as well as more support, research, and approaches to having challenging conversations on race and racism. As a teacher educator, I use a multimodal curriculum and visual methods in preparing future teacher educators (i.e., doctoral students) and supporting their development of critical racial consciousness. In this study, I highlight one visual artifact, a cartoon, as a pedagogical approach for initiating conversations about race. Using cartoons is a suitable method for initiating difficult discussions on race, ultimately leading to critical reflections and the development of racial literacy
Integrating Enhanced Flat Panel Trainer (EFPT) and Virtual Reality (VR) Technologies into an Aircraft Systems Course
Get PDFThe Advanced Commercial Aircraft Systems course at Metropolitan State University of Denver delves into the design and operation of regional jet aircraft systems, specifically focusing on the Bombardier CRJ 700. The virtual training environment developed early on to simulate pilot-system interactions, or procedural flows, originally incorporated two separate elements: 1) a desktop workstation flight deck simulation software and 2) a separate static layout of the flight deck. Technological advancements have since enabled the integration of these components into a single interactive touch-screen procedural trainer platform, which provides systems simulation within the spatial context of the flight deck layout. This enhanced flat panel trainer (EFPT) technology has been successfully employed in the Aeronautics and Aerospace Systems Jet Laboratory at Metropolitan State University of Denver and utilized for this class since 2015. As of fall 2024, the facility has expanded to include a 3D computer-generated Virtual Reality (VR) representation of the flight deck for procedural flow training providing a more immersive experience for the learner. This presentation will review the implementation of the VR technology including preliminary student feedback received thus far
Improving Organizational Capital Utilizing State Funded Grant Initiatives
No full textSchool executive leadership, the superintendency, is the juggling of many issues, including proper budgeting oversight, planning for school improvement, targeting classroom instruction, making decisions regarding human capital, and integrating the philosophies of the community represented by the school board into all areas of the school design and operations. All of these requirements of leadership play a role in selecting, writing and facilitation of state funded grant initiatives. This paper explores the selection and implementation of state grant initiatives in an action research study and is conveyed as a narrative inquiry through reflection of a small rural school superintendent.
