Role exit from home to homeless
Get PDFThis paper addresses homeless ness as an involuntary type of role exit, experienced by women residing in emergency shelters or a transitional housing program. Put forth is an analysis of Ebaugh's role exit process (which has traditionally been applied to voluntary types of transitions). A reordered model is presented which considers a unique sequential process. Specifically, these areas a reexamined: the events leading to homelessness, decision making in terms of procuring shelter and other resources, the development of the homeless identity, the experience of homelessness as a distinctive role, and plans for exiting this role
Gender differences in sexual dreaming, disinhibition, and number of coital partners
Get PDFThis study attempts to determine if various self-reported evaluations of a person's dreams can explain significant unique variance in the number of coital partners he or she has experienced. A number of gender differences were found. While promiscuous females were most ashamed of their sexual dreams, promiscuous males were least ashamed. Although males reported significantly more coital partners than females, more variance was explained in the female model than in the male model. Disinhibition was the most powerful predictor of number of partners for both sexes. As predicted by evolutionary theory, gender differences in sexual dreaming and behavior reflect gender-differentiated reproductive strategies as predicted by evolutionary theory
The restructuring of retirement in the United States as a consequence of falling rates of profit
Get PDFUsing data collected from the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the Social Security Administration this paper links declining economic prospects in retirement to the structural dynamics of capitalist production. Because of a tendency toward overproduction and falling rates of profit, the extra economic costs of support for the aged have come under pressure. As a result personal savings have declined, the numbers of persons covered by pensions have fallen, and social security is threatened
