    Miljøgifter i ferskvann - MILFERSK År: 2018

    No full text
This report studies the distribution and fate of contaminants such as mercury (Hg), cyclic volatile methylated siloxanes (cVMS: D4, D5, D6), brominated flame retardants (BFR, PBDEs), alkylphenols, organic phosphorous flame retardants (oPFR), poly- and perfluorated alkyl substances (PFAS), new brominated flame retardants (nBFR) and UV-chemicals. Samples of the pelagic food web of Lake Mjøsa (zooplankton, Mysis, vendace, European smelt and brown trout) and the top predator brown trout in Lake Femunden are studied. Results are compared to environmental quality standards (EQS) and the time trends for major contaminants are studied.Monitoring of environmental contaminants in freshwater ecosystems 2018 – Occurrence and biomagnificationMiljøgifter i ferskvann - MILFERSK År: 2018publishedVersio

Environmental impacts of a chemical looping combustion power plant

    Get PDF
Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) is a promising CO2 capture option since it inherently separates CO2 from other flue components, theoretically with low energy penalty. Here, a Life Cycle Assessment model was developed of a theoretical hybrid CLC (HCLC) power plant facility utilising experimental data for CuO based oxygen carrier (OC) production and oxygen capacity. Power plant models with and without post-combustion CO2 capture, recognised as the most mature capture technology, acted as environmental performance targets. Results show that when OC is produced at lab-scale without optimisation, almost all (>99.9%) lifecycle impacts per kWh electricity from an HCLC plant derive from the specific OC material used, giving a total of ˜700 kg CO2eq/kWh. This is related to high electrical input required for OC processing, as well as high OC losses during production and from plant waste. Only when processing parameters are optimised and OC recycling from plant waste is implemented - reducing fresh OC needs – is the environmental impact lower than the conventional technologies studied (e.g. 0.2 kg CO2 eq/kWh vs. ˜0.3-1 kg CO2 eq/kWh, respectively). Further research should thus focus on identifying OCs that do not require energy intensive processing and can endure repeated cycles, allowing for recycling.publishedVersio

Electrochemical Performance of Nitrogen-Doped TiO2 Nanotubes as Electrode Material for Supercapacitor and Li-Ion Battery

Electrochemical anodized titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes are of immense significance as electrochemical energy storage devices owing to their fast electron transfer by reducing the diffusion path and paving way to fabricating binder-free and carbon-free electrodes. Besides these advantages, when nitrogen is doped into its lattice, doubles its electrochemical activity due to enhanced charge transfer induced by oxygen vacancy. Herein, we synthesized nitrogen-doped TiO2 (N-TiO2) and studied its electrochemical performances in supercapacitor and as anode for a lithium-ion battery (LIB). Nitrogen doping into TiO2 was confirmed by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. The electrochemical performance of N-TiO2 nanotubes was outstanding with a specific capacitance of 835 μF cm−2 at 100 mV s−1 scan rate as a supercapacitor electrode, and it delivered an areal discharge capacity of 975 μA h cm−2 as an anode material for LIB which is far superior to bare TiO2 nanotubes (505 μF cm−2 and 86 μA h cm−2, respectively). This tailor-made nitrogen-doped nanostructured electrode offers great promise as next-generation energy storage electrode material.publishedVersio

Method for detecting aging related failures of process sensors via noise signal measurement

    Get PDF
In this article we examine the methods for detecting and predicting aging related process sensor failures by analyzing the noise of the sensor output signal. The study uses data from non-differential and differential pressure transmitters used in the pressure and water level measurements of the reactor pressure vessels of units 1 and 2 of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Finland. The article contains a review of the current methods for detection of sensor failures. Additionally, we present a new method for detecting changes in the sensor output signal. The method creates fingerprints of the power spectra of the sensors by using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The changes in these fingerprints together with the measurements of the redundant sensors can be used to detect indications of some of the impending sensor failures. In the experimental study we are able to produce stable fingerprints for both the non-differential and differential pressure transmitters. Also, a potential failure in one of the differential pressure transmitters in Olkiluoto unit 2 is detected by inspecting the fingerprints and analyzing the spectral changes of the transmitter output signal.publishedVersio

A combined deep inelastic neutron scattering andab initiolattice dynamics study of the hydride anion dynamics and bonding in La2LiHO3 oxyhydride

Kobayashi et al (6279) (Science 2016, 351) reported recently the existence of pure H- conductivity in the oxyhydride La2−x−y Sr x+y LiH1−x+y O3−y , while demonstrating its functionality through a prototype solid-state Ti/La2LiHO3/TiH2 battery. In this study, we probe the atomistic motion of La2LiHO3 obtained by the promising halide salt flux method, via a combination of deep inelastic neutron scattering (DINS) and ab initio lattice dynamics (LD) calculations verified by vibrational inelastic neutron spectroscopy (INS). We successfully describe the measured momentum distributions from DINS via our LD calculations, without observing any diffusion activation over the temperature range reported by Kobayashi et al. This observation is corroborated by model predictions from our LD study, which reveals that the hydride anions remain bound within a 3D-harmonic potential. We conclude that with the current synthesis parameters, the method produces a vacancy free lattice, and that a necessary ingredient for diffusive motion of H- is the presence of a large population of vacancies. Based on the harmonic prediction for the hydrogen kinetic energy, we derive a picture of the evolution of the effective bonding potential for the hydride anions, and link this to the dynamics associated with decomposition of the oxyhydride.publishedVersio
