    Are social media marketing activities reaping benefits for brands? The moderating role of education

    Purpose Increasingly, brands are using social media to attract consumers. However, it is not clear how social media activities influence consumers. To address this, the study examines the role of social media marketing (SMM) activities on consumer-based brand equity and continued usage intentions. The study also examines the moderating role of education. Design/methodology/approach The study utilized consumer-based brand equity (CBBE) and stimulus organism response (SOR) theories to develop a conceptual model. SMM activities were used as stimulus, whereas continued usage intentions were used as response. Also, the study used elements of CBBE as organisms. A survey-based questionnaire approach was used to collect data from 326 consumers. The collected data were analysed using structural equation modelling. Findings Results indicate that SMM activities are associated with elements of CBBE. Also, elements of CBBE shape continued usage intentions of consumers. The results of the multigroup analysis suggest the differences among the three groups with respect to their education level. The study’s findings enable managers to understand CBBE and continued usage behaviour of their customers and provide guidelines to manage their SMM activities. Originality/value The study findings are first to empirically test the effects of SMM activities on CBBE and continued usage behaviour. The results show that the stimulus strongly shapes CBBE and their continued intention to purchase brands. The findings contribute to the literature on SMM activities, CBBE and offer novel managerial implications

Religious beliefs and attitudes towards health recommendations influence the viewpoints of people from various religious backgrounds. The Islamic traditions are the source of Islamic law’s prohibitions on death, yet Muslims across the world observe a range of death ceremonies and traditions.     Unlocking dividend potential through the power of sustainable disclosures: Moderating role of financial constraints

    Based on signalling and stakeholder theory, this research empirically explores the relationship between sustainability disclosure by firms and their dividend payouts in emerging economies. Various measures such as likelihood of paying dividends, stability of dividend disbursed, dividend payout ratio and dividend yield are employed to test the research hypotheses. Panel dataset covering firms from 16 emerging economies spanning from 2015 to 2022 is analysed using Logit model, Tobit model and Random Effect model. The findings demonstrate a favourable relationship between ESG disclosure scores and dividend payouts of firms. Higher ESG scores are associated with a greater likelihood of paying dividends, higher dividend payments, ensuring the stability of these payments and delivering higher implied shareholder returns through dividend yield. These effects are more pronounced for firms under greater financial constraints. Importantly, these results remain robust across various sensitivity analyses involving alternative measures, estimation methods and instrumental variable regression. These findings hold implications for investors, managers and policymakers, offering valuable insights for companies to structure their sustainability initiatives. By examining and integrating corporate finance and sustainability, this study introduces ESG scores as a novel nonfinancial driver of corporate payouts, thus marking the pioneering contribution to the ESG-dividend literature in emerging nations

    Do the innovative technological advancements foster the green transition pathways for industry 5.0? A perspective toward carbon neutrality

    Purpose Industries have been the most significant contributor to carbon emissions since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. The transition to Industry 5.0 (I5.0) marks a pivotal moment in the industrial revolution, which aims to reconcile productivity with environmental responsibility. As concerns about the decline of environmental quality increase and the demand for sustainable industrial methods intensifies, experts recognize the shift toward the I5.0 transition as a crucial turning point. Design/methodology/approach This review study explores the convergence of green technological advancements with the evolving landscape of I5.0, thereby presenting a roadmap toward carbon neutrality. Through an extensive analysis of literature spanning from 2012 to 2024, sourced from the Scopus database, the research study unravels the transformative potential of green technological innovations, artificial intelligence, green supply chain management and the metaverse. Findings The findings underscore the urgent imperative of integrating green technologies into the fabric of I5.0, highlighting the opportunities and challenges inherent in this endeavor. Furthermore, the study provides insights tailored for policymakers, regulators, researchers and environmental stakeholders, fostering informed decision-making toward a carbon-neutral future. Originality/value This review serves as a call to action, urging collective efforts to harness innovation for the betterment of industry and the environment

    U.S. Gen. Douglas MacArthur referred to Taiwan as an “unsinkable aircraft carrier.” That statement remains true, as Taiwan is considered a key to the United States’ “First Island Chain” defense. However, relations between China and Taiwan have evolved from a domestic issue to a regional and a significant international problem. Mired with politics, power projections, and changes within China and Taiwan, cross-strait relations have become a potential flashpoint posing possible concerns for Indo-Pacific countries (among others). The continuity of the status quo in the Taiwan Strait – where Taiwanese leaders do not declare independence and China does not use force to take control over Taiwan – is crucial to the peace in the region

    Global perspectives on lead contamination and health risks in surface water, rice grains, and soils

    Lead (Pb), a pervasive and highly toxic metal, and poses significant environmental and health risks due to its extensive biogeochemical cycling, driven by anthropogenic activities. This review evaluates the health hazards allied with Pb contamination in surface water bodies, soils, and rice grains, based on a comprehensive analysis (2015–2024) of 118, 133, and 102 literature studies, respectively. The year-wise assessment of Pb concentration in surface water bodies and soils frequently exceeded their permissible limits in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022. However, the mean Pb concentration in rice grains consistently surpassed the Codex Alimentarius limit (2.5 μg/g) across the analyzed years. Geographically, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and China surpassed their limits for surface water bodies, rice grains and soils, emphasizing regional vulnerabilities. Health risk analysis indicated hazard quotient values exceeding one for children and adults in surface water bodies and rice grains, exhibiting significant non-carcinogenic risks. In soils, dermal exposure identified as the predominant pathways contributing to health hazard followed by ingestion, while inhalation presented the lower risk. These findings emphasize the imperative necessitate for implementing strict regulatory frameworks and preventive measures to mitigate Pb contamination in the environment and minimize its potential health impacts. This study advances understanding of Pb exposure pathways and risks, offering valuable insights for targeted mitigation strategies and public health interventions

    Construction of small-family norm in post-independence India

    The evolution of India’s small-family norm since its independence is traced, examining its development from concept to official policy. The initial promotion by institutions like the Indian Army and influential figures is explored and the role of Ford Foundation-funded campaigns in creating public consent is highlighted. The study shows how the two-child norm reached the pinnacle of national politics by 1986, appearing in Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s Twenty-Point programme. Notably, this policy shift overlooked government studies indicating a preference for larger families and more sons among Indians, failing to address the underlying reasons for such preferences

    Altered corticostriatal connectivity in long-COVID patients is associated with cognitive impairment

    Background The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the health of millions of people worldwide, and many manifest new or persistent symptoms long after the initial onset of the infection. One of the leading symptoms of long-COVID is cognitive impairment, which includes memory loss, lack of concentration, and brain fog. Understanding the nature and underlying mechanisms of cognitive impairment in long-COVID is important for developing preventive and therapeutic interventions. Methods Our present study investigated functional connectivity (FC) changes in patients with long-COVID and their associations with cognitive impairment. Resting-state functional MRI data from 60 long-COVID patients and 52 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were analyzed using seed-based functional connectivity analysis. Results We found increased FC between the right caudate nucleus and both the left and right precentral gyri in long-COVID patients compared with healthy controls. In addition, elevated FC was observed between the right anterior globus pallidus and posterior cingulate cortex as well as the right temporal pole in long-COVID patients. Importantly, the magnitude of FC between the caudate and the left precentral gyrus showed a significant negative correlation with Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores and a negative correlation with Trail Making Test B performance in the patient group. Conclusion Patients with long-COVID present enhanced FC between the caudate and the left precentral gyrus. Furthermore, those FC alterations are related to the severity of cognitive impairment, particularly in the domain of executive functions

    Paving the way to environmental sustainability: A systematic review to integrate big data analytics into high-stake decision forecasting

    Big Data Analytics (BDA) is increasingly gaining interest in supply chain management due to the incorporation of digital technology in a range of operations. It facilitates the movement of commodities and data efficiently. However, despite the numerous benefits associated with BDA, there has been limited research on the extent to which BDA can improve environmental sustainability in supply chains. In an attempt to assess the depth of our knowledge, this study undertakes a bibliometric analysis in which 155 relevant articles are retrieved. The assessment discloses the various factors driving, limiting, and stimulating the adoption of BDA in the digital supply chain through analysis and discussion. Additionally, it suggests a framework linking the factors to achieve environmental sustainability. The outcomes of the evaluation indicate that the adoption of BDA could help in realizing an eco-friendly supply chain by reducing the carbon footprint, increasing product life cycles, minimizing the cost of transportation, and reducing transport-related emissions. This research suggests that policymakers should support BDA technology adoption for the reasons identified - it assists in boosting innovation and resilience in the increasingly competitive, ever changing market and the chaotic economic conditions of some industries. Many decisions made regarding environmental sustainability call for policies that will encourage BDA use to address climate, resources, energy management and sustainability factors

    Exploring factors affecting women in the family business from entrepreneurship students' perspectives

    This study aims to highlight the perceptions of entrepreneurship students in Indian private universities towards factors that affect women's entrepreneurial success in the future. The study adopted an exploratory way to explore the factors affecting women entrepreneurs in family businesses. The data for the study was collected from students studying in higher education institutions by conducting interviews using the interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) technique with 26 respondents. The institutions were finalized based on their record for running entrepreneurship programs at the postgraduate level. The study provides a base for developing nations with non-egalitarian contexts to encourage women to join family businesses
