Transforming hospitality 5.0: a systematic review of AI’s impact on employee experience and well-being

    No full text
Purpose: Organisations are becoming increasingly invested in artificial intelligence (AI), and many face challenges in helping employees adapt to these new technologies. This study aims to consolidate and synthesise the existing literature to underscore the importance of understanding employees’ experiences in AI-enabled work environments and the potential impact on their psychological well-being. Design/methodology/approach: The review employed a structured process of searching, screening and synthesising studies, as proposed by Tranfield et al. (2003). The study selection followed PRISMA, and thematic analysis was used to analyse 137 articles to identify significant patterns and concepts. Findings: This study identifies six key themes. 1. Present State of AI-Employee-AI Collaboration: Defining Employee Roles and Guest Experiences in Hospitality 5.0; 2. AI Transforming the Employee Experience; 3. AI Integration and Its Impact on Employee Psychological Well-Being in the Hospitality Sector; 4. Implications of Employee Experience on Employee Psychological Well-Being; 5. Importance of Embracing AI in Hospitality; and 6. Theoretical Frameworks for Employees’ Acceptance of AI in the Workplace. Together, these themes show both how AI empowers and limits employees, highlighting the importance of employee-centred methods. Originality/value: This review provides a unified synthesis of how AI reshapes employee experience and psychological well-being in hospitality, explicitly linking two constructs that have remained under-theorised in prior research. This study concludes with a research agenda of six key areas to advance understanding of human–AI collaboration and employee experience, and also offers strategic guidance for practitioners managing Industry transformations in Hospitality 5.0

Pedagogical twists: challenges to teaching fiction writing workshops in Indian colleges and universities

    No full text
This paper explores the complexities of teaching fiction writing in Indian higher education. It argues that the Cold War-era workshop model, which originated in the U.S. and emphasizes the written text over broader cultural and socioeconomic contexts responsible for generating the text, is inadequate for Indian universities and colleges lacking dedicated creative writing programs or an opportunity to teach advanced fiction workshops. The paper highlights the logistical challenges faced by instructors, including the limited opportunity to teach fiction writing courses and the lack of exposure of students to craft courses on fiction writing in Indian schools. It critiques the American workshop model and proposes alternative strategies to teach fiction workshops that are tailored to the Indian context. These include a modified anonymous floating workshop model and a seminar-based structure to teach fiction writing. The paper underscores the need for context-sensitive approaches to creative writing pedagogy that address the unique cultural, institutional, and educational realities of Indian universities

Assemblages of exclusion: populist nationalism and the cultural politics of the Chalo India campaign

    No full text
As an exploratory and critical study examining what seems to have been overlooked regarding the Chalo India diaspora campaign’s roots and characteristics, the article highlights the campaign’s potent formation within the populist nationalist habitus of Hindutva politics. Put it differently, the article casts light on the granularity of the ways in which the populist Hindu nationalist politics has shaped and been embedded in the campaign. It contends that the Chalo India campaign must be understood as an assemblage within the practice of the spatialization of the Hindutva narrative, a practice for which India’s tourism and cultural landscapes have recently become a key site. In doing so, the article contributes to the body of work on right-wing populism by analyzing how regimes employ diaspora, tourism, and heritage collectively to govern and manage the inclusion and exclusion of ‘others’ based on cultural, religious, and ethnic markers as part of their populist political projects. It also contributes to the literature on right-wing heritage policy that remains largely underexplored

Comprehensive Fault Analysis in Transmission Lines Using Artificial Intelligence

    No full text
Reliable fault detection, classification, and localization are critical for ensuring the stability and protection of high-voltage power transmission systems. This paper presents a unified multilabel framework that addresses these tasks simultaneously, providing a practical alternative to approaches that treat them independently. Using stratified evaluation to ensure balanced performance across fault types, the study demonstrates near-perfect accuracy and F1-scores in detecting and classifying faults, with equally strong performance in identifying faulted lines. Fault position localization, while more challenging due to overlapping feature distributions, achieves promising accuracy and highlights areas for further improvement. The proposed framework offers a scalable and efficient solution suitable for real-time deployment, contributing to enhanced grid reliability, reduced downtime, and improved operational efficiency in modern power systems

India Will Remain Immune To Protest Waves Engulfing Neighbourhood

So long as Indians do not find a true watchdog for the government, people will have to keep choosing the lesser evil. Youth are well aware of the situation of Arab countries post-revolution. In South Asia, although Sri Lanka and Nepal have been able to consolidate power to some extent, Bangladesh remains in a frenzy with rampant human rights violations, religious persecution and no legitimate government in sight. Hence, Indian youth prefer to seek reform from within rather than a full-blown revolution without any vision for the future

Companionship, kinship and continuum: Reflections with lesbian identifying older persons in Mumbai and Kolkata

    No full text
When Adrienne Rich wrote Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence, she indicated the erasure of lesbian lives from heteronormative life worlds in the Anglo-American context. Lesbian existence is a critical way of fighting compulsory heterosexuality and speaks of bonds and friendships that go beyond sexual desire between two cis women. With the concept of the lesbian continuum, Adrienne Rich represented woman-identified experiences that carry the possibility of politically realigning the relationship between the lesbian and the feminist. This paper is interested in understanding the textures of companionship in the 1980s and 1990s in urban India among lesbian identifying cis women. We engage with the narratives of lesbian identifying individuals who developed companionship and kinship through social stigma, legal oppression and political erasure. Today, all above 50 years of age, their life journeys of discrimination and political togetherness help sharpen the lesbian continuum. In their narratives of companionship are folded stories of resistance, subversion and resilience, of opening up their homes and hearts for queer and trans* individuals to connect, form friendships and care networks. By focusing on these lives’ spatial and historical contexts and struggles, we ask if lesbian companionship can sharpen the concept of the lesbian continuum to arrive at a renewed understanding of kinship, care and solidarity. Apart from resistance against compulsory heterosexuality, what other possibilities can lesbian companionships and lesbian continuum present for trans-feminist solidarities

Development and validation of the Pursuit of Happiness Scale

The present study reports the development and validation of a 31-item measure that examines strategies employed by people to increase their happiness levels. The items of this new ‘Pursuit of Happiness Scale’ (an English and a Hindi version) were developed by integrating top-down and bottom-up approaches. The scale development was based on a pilot study (N=401) and a main study (N=1795). Five happiness increasing strategies were derived through exploratory factor analysis, viz., (a) Pursuing a Positive Outlook, (b) Pursuing Goals, (c) Pursuing Faith, (d) Pursuing Emotional Stability, and (e) Pursuing a Healthy Life. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated a good model fit for the five-factor structure, and the new measure also showed good reliability and validity. The Pursuit of Happiness Scale can help scholars and policymakers gain meaningful insights into the wellbeing landscape of the country. Such knowledge can inform the development of policies, interventions, and theoretical models to address and promote the happiness of Indians. Besides, at a more micro-level, such an understanding can help individuals engage more proactively in practices that may enhance their mood and overall well-being

A framework for AI-driven value co-creation across customer journey stages

    No full text
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how firms and customers co-create value across the customer journey, enabling innovative, personalized, and relationship-driven interactions. This paper introduces a conceptual framework that extends the traditional customer journey model through AI-driven value co-creation (VCC) across the pre-purchase, purchase, and post-purchase stages. The framework distinguishes traditional journey from AI-enhanced co-creation by classifying AI functionalities into mechanical, thinking, and feeling dimensions, each linked to functional, emotional, and social value. Drawing on service marketing, consumer behaviour, and contemporary theories such as anthropomorphism, psychological ownership, and Theory of Mind, this study offers a robust perspective on AI’s role in VCC. Mechanical AI enhances efficiency and functional value, thinking AI enables adaptive emotional engagement, and feeling AI fosters social connection through humanlike traits. This integrated approach addresses key research gaps and provides actionable insights for leveraging AI to create meaningful, customer-centric value
