Study site selection is essential for the success of many fisheries-related programs. A thorough site selection could provide transparency in the decision-making process and optimize resources. In this research, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach was used to select sites for a market study of reef-associated seafood in Alaminos City, Northwestern Philippines. Out of the 10 coastal barangays, four (Lucap, Sabangan, Telbang, and Victoria) were initially chosen, and the difference between these sites and the priority sites generated from AHP was examined. Five decision criteria and 10 alternatives (coastal barangays) were analyzed to calculate priority weights using pairwise comparisons. The AHP analysis showed that among the set of criteria, the presence of coral reefs, registered number of fishers, proximity to public market, and existence of fish ports were the most relevant. Among the alternatives, Lucap (0.196), Telbang (0.127), and Victoria (0.118) obtained the highest global priority values followed by Pangapisan (0.105), Pandan (0.098), and Bued (0.096); however, Sabangan, which was included in the initially selected study sites, only ranked 7th (0.073). The results confirmed the suitability of the selected sites and helped identify additional potential sites for a market study. The final priority values from the AHP were imported into the Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) to generate thematic and suitability maps. The usefulness of AHP was demonstrated in selecting the most suitable sites for a market study. This method uses a systematic and simple procedure that could be utilized by local decision makers for future studies and projects that require prioritization of multiple options

Minus one kasi Taglis : a mixed methods sequential study on the potential discrimination of selected UPRHS faculty towards the use of taglish in formal academic requirements

The Philippines is, undoubtedly, a nation of multilinguals, and one of the behaviors formed in this linguistic environment is Code-Switching (CS) a behavior that may be considered a reality for the many Filipino multilinguals. Despite this, the Philippine education system has yet to completely embrace CS because of a language standard that can be traced back to our American colonizers. Language education policies, namely Bilingual Education and MTB-MLE have also yet to formally introduce CS into the Filipino classroom, resulting in its often discrimination from formal requirements. This study aims to investigate and pinpoint the current state of this standard by determining how UPRHS instructors act towards CS (namely, Taglish) in formal academic requirements. It achieves this through a mixed-methods exploratory research design using attitudinal surveys distributed among 21 teachers, from which 8 participants were selected for focus group discussions. These discussions were analyzed using thematic analysis with particular attention given to the roles of language standard and markedness. This study finds that UPRHS faculty have a relatively positive view of Taglish, showing that they do not attach the language phenomena with a lack of intelligence and language proficiency. They, however, still discriminate against it - particularly in written requirements - because of three main factors: The standards of a higher third-party such as the school or the curriculum, the presence of other learning objectives that may be hindered or broken by using mixed language, and the general nature of requirements they give away

The study aims to create a food recommender system that makes recommendations for a balanced meal to address the Philippines\u27 continuous yearly rise in the proportion of overweight people. In order to do this, the researchers used open-source databases to compile detailed data on a range of food items, including their coresponding food groups, nutritional infomation, and serving sizes. The developed program can produce meal combinations with three food items with a balanced ratio or individually serve as a significant source of macronutrients per meal using the KNN algonthm. Through experimentation, the study generated ten outputs for each predetermined macronutrient ratio as part of the review process, resulting in 400 recommendations. Tests for four distinct preset macronutrient ratios produced results of three food items, and each food category\u27s reduced database contained 150 randomly selected items per food group for a total of 450 food items to choose from per subset of the database. The meal presets are as follows: ideal meal ratio, low-fat, low-carb, and high-protein meal ratios. The mean total percentage error is 0.8256% for all test cases combined. For individual test cases, the percentage eror for protein is 0.6029%; for carbohydrates, it is 0.5389%: and for fat, it is 1.3349%. The mean unning time for all test cases is 6.75 seconds. The program\u27s ability to generate appropriate outcomes with minimal error and fast running speed by utilizing the user\u27s supplied macronutrient and calorie ratios is essential as it advances the development of health-promoting strategies for dietary management. Through this study, the utilization of the KNN algorithm was successfully implemented

Kalye hip-hop is a contemporary term for a collection of counterdominant narratives delivered by hip-hop artists who hail from the broad concept of the kalye . In particular, kalye hip-hop is an outlet in which kalye artists can safely speak and make art about their experiences, namely struggles and triumphs, to an audience that will both listen and be entertained. This research intends to benefit those who identify as taga-kalye as well as those who observe this dynamic of sharing by listening in on the highs and lows of artists\u27 experiences in the kalye to foster understanding among distinguished communities to shed light on the genres and topics dealt with in the music of the kalye. This study, through its usage of Fairclough\u27s three-dimensional framework for Critical Discourse Analysis, aims to establish the situation of kalye as a scene and community through the eight songs\u27 lyricism fromn Spotify\u27s editorial playlist, Kalye Hip-Hop. Through discussions of themes related to the kalye, the level of text revealed that the lyrics utilized linguistic tools such as repetition, word choice, and register to concretize and emphasize the artists\u27 own experiences. On the level of discursive practice, artists used name-calling and the concept of othering to position themselves in the kalye community and those outside of it and realize their identity in the process. As for the level of sociocultural practice, discourses regarding them form within the kalye itself, highlighting the uniqueness in the artists\u27 experiences despite having the commonality of identifying themselves as a part of the kalye. These findings shed light on current practices that reflect what people may end up considering to be related to the kalye and how these resulting perceptions add to the ongoing discourse of the very concept or image of the kalye
