No full textEpitafi, Simfonia de primavera, Grecitat, Testimonis, Divuit cançons de la pàtria amarga, Quarta dimensió, entre d'altres poemaris i monòlegs dramàtics de Iannis Ritsos, han esdevingut avui obres emblemàtiques de la Grècia contemporània. Recreant un paisatge aspre de set i sequera -que evoca tant la sobrietat i solitud de la seva Monemvasia natal, vila de pedres medievals exposades al vent, com la penúria i resistència humana a les illes on ell i els seus companys van ser confinats per motius polítics-, Ritsos hi dóna veu al poble grec, converteix en lírics els seus anhels i en misteris poètics els seus planys, figures i mites. És una poesia realista i alhora plena de fantasmes, en què els elements quotidians com les oliveres, les eines, les mans d'homes vius i morts prenen protagonisme. Fortament ideològica, la poesia de Ritsos és alhora un descobriment de l'íntim, dels drames familiars i personals i, sobretot, de la paraula poètica que revela una realitat més enllà de les aparences
The European rescue of the Franco regime, 1950-1975
No full textThe European Rescue of the Franco Regime, 1950-1975 explores how the governments of the founding members of the European Coal and Steel Community and the European Economic Community, acting collectively via the European Communities, assisted in the consolidation of the Franco regime. It explains how the Six (the Nine after 1972) implemented a set of policy measures that facilitated the subsistence of the Franco regime, proving that trade with the Six improved Spain's overall economic performance, which in turn secured Franco's rule.
The Six provided the Spanish economy with a stable supply of essential raw materials and capital goods and with outlet markets for the country's main export commodities. Through these mechanisms the European Communities assisted Spanish economic development and supported the stabilization of the non-democratic political regime ruling Spain. The Franco regime was never threatened by European integration and the Six/Nine managed to isolate meaningful Community negotiations with Spain from mounting political disturbance. The European Rescue of the Franco Regime, 1950-1975 shows that without unremitting material assistance from Western Europe, it would have been considerably more challenging for the Franco regime to attain the stability that enabled the dictator to maintain his rule until he died peacefully at 82 years old

No full textLa obra de una actriz, a lo largo de los años, puede contener en sí misma y mostrar los síntomas de los pasajes históricos de una cinematografía; la forma en que se instaura una iconografía y con el tiempo se transforma o quiebra. ¿Este tipo de trabajo es una forma creativa que, más allá de la dirección de los cineastas, compete a la propia actriz, quien aprende a controlar y cambiar su imagen y sus potencialidades más ocultas y, tal vez, subversivas? ¿Es posible percibir un hilo iconográfico que la actriz va tejiendo y madurando para darle forma propia? Aurora Bautista, que empezó en el cine simbolizando el joven cuerpo heroico, patriótico e idealizado del franquismo en sus primeros films para Cifesa, representaría dieciséis años después, en La tía Tula (Manuel Picazo, 1964), la imagen de la represión sexual: un cuerpo real, intocable, que deviene espacio de resistencia frente a la imagen esperada de perfecta esposa y devota amorosa

No full textLos delitos contra la libertad sexual y la responsabilidad penal de las personas jurídicas son dos temas que, en distintos momentos de su carrera académica, han sido objeto de la atención de José Luis Díez Ripollés. También lo ha sido la racionalidad de las leyes penales, como se titula su influyente libro de 2003, así como el denominado "Derecho penal simbólico". Todas estas materias aparecen en este trabajo a propósito de la reciente decisión legislativa de ampliar la responsabilidad penal de las personas jurídicas al delito de acoso sexual. Con este texto quiere rendirse homenaje a quien, sin duda, ha escrito algunas de las páginas más brillantes sobre Derecho penal y política criminal en la discusión española contemporánea
Ethnic diversity, plural democracy and human dignity: challenges to the European Union and Western Balkans
No full text“Given their ethnic diversity, to what extent, and at what cost and benefit to human dignity, can European countries adopt and adapt plural democracy?” The contributors to this volume offer answers to this question from a variety of multidisciplinary perspectives within the framework of the integral theory of law and the state. Their shared aim is to explain legal phenomena in the context of other relevant issues and to identify, analyse and critique conceptualizations, problems and situations. This volume is rooted in the historical and contemporary European experience with special cases from Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia, Latvia, Slovenia, Spain and Canada which are relevant for understanding the European problem. Solutions to the problem are sought through innovative interpretations of the rule of law, democracy and human dignity, which are followed by argumentation about how these concepts, when recognized as European legal principles, can be implemented in order to avoid ethnic conflicts.
Following an introduction that defines the problem at the centre of the book and explains how legal theory can be used to address it, the book consists of eleven contributions divided into three thematic sections. The first covers topics concerning the European principles which can help avoid ethnic conflicts: the principle of compulsory adjudication in interstate relations, the principle of democracy, and principles regarding the recognition of individual and collective identities. These European principles are then investigated by drawing on legal and political theories. The second section presents three ways of conceptualizing ethnical needs in multi-ethnic states: asymmetric federalism, dêmoicratic account and cooperative federalism. The third and final section elaborates on issues concerning the protection of minority rights: the role of judicial ideology in protecting minority rights, citizenship, the EU mechanism for the protection of minority rights, and theimportance of remembering tragic events affecting minorities
