Globalización del proceso productivo en el sector cooperativo: el caso de Erreka Mex
No full textErreka Mex is part of MONDRAGON, the largest business group in the Spanish Social Economy. Its foray into Mexico began in 2001. This article evaluates the socioeconomic impact of the experience of the globalization of its established production process. The evaluation combines two measures: the economic impact through the Input – Output Tables, and the degree to which economic, environmental and socially responsible policies and practices are aligned with the business strategy. Given the composition of intersectoral and internal expenditure of Erreka Mex, the indirect impact exceeds the induced, which shows the greater relative weight product of the increase in income.

El presente artículo evalúa el impacto de la globalización de su proceso productivo establecido, combinando dos medidas: el impacto económico a través de las Tablas Input – Output, y el grado en el que se alinean las políticas y prácticas económicas, ambientales y socialmente responsables con la estrategia empresarial, para lo cual se llevó a cabo un trabajo de campo in situ. Dada la composición de su gasto intersectorial e interno, el impacto indirecto supera al inducido, lo cual muestra el mayor peso relativo por el incremento de la renta.

The contribution for education and promotion of cooperatives and other public interest purposes – COFIP – in the basque law and its applicability
No full textUna de las principales particularidades del régimen económico de las sociedades cooperativas es, sin duda, la existencia de un fondo obligatorio cuya aplicabilidad viene expresamente regulada, no siendo los importes dotacionales que la conforman disponibles por los administradores. Se trata de la denominada por el legislador vasco como Contribución para la educación y promoción cooperativa y otros fines de interés público. Si bien las especialidades de la naturaleza jurídica y las finalidades perseguidas por dicho Fondo vienen siendo, ya de antiguo, materias de interés para su investigación, se estima que tanto la aprobación de la nueva legislación cooperativa autonómica como la explícita referencia al fondo contenida en la legislación aprobada al objeto de la ordenación de la situación excepcional de alarma por la COVID-19 invitan a profundizar en el estudio de su evolución jurídica y práctica (eventuales y potenciales destinos).
Recibido: 12 septiembre 2020Aceptado: 06 abril 2021One of the main peculiarities of the financial regulations of cooperative societies is, undoubtedly, the existence of a mandatory fund whose applicability is expressly regulated and whose endowment is not accessible to the administrators. Basque legislation refers to it as the Contribution for Education and Promotion of Cooperatives and other Public Interest Purposes. Although the characteristics of the legal nature and the purpose of the said Fund have long been the focus of research, it is considered that both, the approval of the new cooperative legislation of the Basque autonomous region and the explicit reference to the fund contained in the approved legislation for the purpose of managing the exceptional situation of emergency generated by the COVID-19, lead to a deeper study of its legal and practical evolution (possible and potential future purposes).

The Generic skills challenge for higher education institutions: Experience of public universities in Chile
No full textIn recent decades in Chile, generic skills have been made explicit in the graduation profiles and curricula of all programs of higher education institutions, following global trends that relate to labor market expectations on the employability of graduates. The institutional characteristics, mission, educational model, and institutional seal condition the choice of the generic skills that are developed. There are no current standards for the process of definition of generic skills sets in the various programs for the different universities. The same is true for the modality of implementation for them. The present article has the purpose of contributing to the knowledge of both the definition and implementation of generic skills inside higher education institutions in Chile. This process becomes relevant in the context of the new demands of students and graduates who face additional employment challenges.

Harmonisation of higher education in Africa: 20 years after the Bologna Process
No full textIt has been 20 years since the Bologna Process has been realized, and the present paper examines efforts made to harmonise higher education in Africa. Similar to other continents, the higher education reform in Africa is inspired by the Bologna Process. This is clearly reflected in the African Union strategy for harmonisation of higher education and different reforms and harmonisation initiatives. The reforms in African higher education are directly and indirectly influenced by the European Union which is also the main financer and technical partner in the development and implementation of higher education harmonisation in Africa. There are different factors that affect the institutionalisation and sustainability of harmonisation initiatives in Africa. Some of the major factors include lack of strong and genuine cooperation among African HEIs, lack of nations’ political commitment to higher reforms, and lack of contextualisation in adopting reforms and strategies. Although the effort to harmonise African higher education is commendable, it is important to look for innovative strategies and reforms which are mainly based on the actual challenges that Africa is facing and the ultimate goal it envisions to achieve. Africa also needs to earnestly ‘conainise’ (continentalise, nationalise and institutionalise) reforms and harmonisation strategies adopted from elsewhere.

The e-portfolio in higher education: The case of a line of teaching innovation and complex change management
No full textThis work proposes a line of innovation to implement possible uses for the e-portfolio in higher education. We present an initial framework for analysis with attention to three main arguments: the validity of the interest of the e-portfolio for higher education in light of the current challenges posed by the knowledge society; the relevance of complex change management within organisations such as universities; and the identification of critical elements in the relevant literature concerning experiences similar to the case analysed here. The milestones for the line of innovation include six projects and three teacher training courses. Once data had been gathered in the respective assessment phases for each milestone by means of document analysis techniques (e-portfolios, teaching materials, usage statistics), questionnaires, discussion groups, in-depth interviews, and self-assessments (responsible academics, teachers, and students), a global analysis of the whole line was conducted from a complex approach to the problems of teaching change and innovation. A technological, political and cultural reading of innovation reveals emerging problems to reconsider: the attainment of deep learning; the standardisation of academic tutoring; the formation of learning and practice communities; the reconceptualisation of the e-portfolio as a personal learning environment; and the transformation of the university institution as a learning organisation. The premature condition of higher education to deal with the change in the teaching paradigm and the urgency to revisit its innovation policies to overcome it stand out among the critical conclusions of this study.

COVID-19 and interdisciplinary research: What are the needs of researchers on aging?
No full textCOVID-19 has had an extreme effect on older people. Now more than ever we need collaborative approaches to address complex issues within research on aging. However, the pandemic has dramatically changed the way we conduct, interact, and organize research within interdisciplinary groups. This paper describes a case study of how an interdisciplinary institute for research on aging has managed the process of change during COVID-19 restrictions. A design lead, researcher centered approach was used to understand the needs of researchers as they adapted across 6 months. Firstly, an online survey (n=51) was conducted to understand the scope of change and needs. The survey found broad themes ranging from assistance with finding additional funding to adjusting current research proposals. Following the survey, two Co-Design Sessions were conducted. The first session (n=53) diverged thinking to scope ideas from the survey and actionable themes were created. The second session (n=36) was conducted to converge thinking and focus on solutions based on one of these themes. The results revealed a diversity of ideas addressing the needs of interdisciplinary researchers in aging. These ideas spanned from exploring the capacity to do research remotely and creating virtual collaboration spaces to rethinking stakeholder engagement.
