presiden t, and Bettye Allen of Poly 
in Fort Worth, secretary. 
Another contribution of the Navy 
to the Freshman Class officers is

them will make up part of 
our football team.

has been expressed by the 
friendliness and the congen-

PROF. C. D. RICHARDS has 
been trying to imitate a machine 
gun lately since he gives notes at 
about that rate. If you don't be-
lieve it ask O'NETL LOFTIS who 
just naturally takes notes in his 
sleep. 
It has been hinted that MRS. 
MARTHA HUGHES was formerly 
a great opera performer, .but s]le 
gave up her career to improve _the 
60 NT AC co-eds' health by her 
P. E. classes. Every now and then 
MRS. HUGHES favors a class with 
a renditio:11 of "Law Hear the 
Gentle Lark". 
GORDON SMITH claims that 
the 4th of July is a holiday be-
cause it is his birthday, suppose so? 
FLUTER ESTES was very sur-
prised when she found someone in 
the picture show who could talk

There was quite a gang at the 
train station in Dallas to see 
JAMES IRVINE, GENE SCHRlC-
KEL, TOMMIE RITCHIE, and 
WYMAN HIGDON off to the Navy. 
They were headed for San Diego 
and in the best of spirits, which 
might be due to the swell send-of!

The swimming pool was really 
loaded on the Fourth, and NTAC

Sports Competition Will 
Begin this week; 8 Groups 
T~ Enter Softball League 
First Competition between sailors 
and cadets in the summer semes-
ter's Intramural Sports program 
will begin this week. 
A new group has been added to 
the roster of the Intramural Sports 
Program. The group is made up of 
non-military students, led by Hub 
Hollen, and -will enter the softball 
league only. Before the entrance 
of the new group, comnetition was 
held only between the three cadet 
groups and the four Navy groups. 
The competition to be provided by 
the non-military boys will 
broaden the score and give more 
enthusiaism to the round robin 
league of softball. 
With practice games .between the 
cadet groups being played, the out-
come of the softball tilt is becom-
ing - more unpredictable. Closer 
scores between the groups and 
tougher games is more evident as 
the teams work out against each 
other and gradually shape up. 
The sports schedule will be on 
the Athletic Bulletin Board by 
Wednesday Noon, and an partici-
pants are requested to watch tor 
it. The schedule will also be on 
the sailor -bulletin board.

Phi Mu will hold an organiza-
tion meeting Wednesday afternoon 
at 12:45 for all Pre-Meds, Nurses 
and Technicians.

English Exhibit Features

William Shakespeare

The English department's cur-
rent exhibit, conceived and ar-
ranged by Prof. Kenneth O. Rock-
well, features the best known works 
of Shakespeare and literature 
about the famous writer. 
Although the fallowing list is not 
the complete exhibit, it illustrates 
the nature of it: various publica-
tions from the Folger Library, 
which is located in Washington, 
D. 0., some books from our own-
NTAO library, an album of records 
intrepreted by Maurice Evans and 
a special Peter Pauper Press edition 
of "Hamlet" and "The Shakespeare 
Country.'

Undefeated Teams In Softball League 
First One Act Play To Be 
"Moonlight to Match'' 
"Moonlight to Match" has been · 
slated as the first one-act play

teams in the softball league of 
intramural sports are the boarding 
houses and the first platoon, Com-
pany B of the Navy Unit. 
In last Tuesday's softball wing 
Arlington Dorm defeated Davis 
Hall 7-6, the boarding houses won 
over A-1 Navy 4-0, and B-1 Navy 
outplayed B-2 Navy to the tune 
of 12-8. 
The second wing of the round 
robin, played last Friday, found 
the boarding houses defeating Ar-
lington Dorm 19-7, Davis Hall 
beating B-2 Navy 7-4, and B-1 
Navy rounding off . A-2 Navy 26-3. 
The most promising teams of 
the softball league remain unde-
feated, with Arlington Dorm rap-
idly shaping up to provide the 
leading teams stiff cqmpetition.

Intramural Sports Rules 
Announced As Softball 
Starts S~cond Week 
Three softball tilts are scheduled 
for this afternoon in the third 
wing of the double round robin 
of intramural softball. Group six 
will contest group four, group sev-
en will play group three, group 
one will be pitted against group 
two, and group five has drawn a 
bye for the afternoon. 
Friday afternoon will find group 
five playing group three, group six 
contesting group two, group seven 
against group one, and group four 
with a bye. 
Intramural sports rules are as 
follows: In all sports a maximum 
of ten minutes after the scheduled 
time of play will be allowed for 
the teams to put in an appearance. 
After the time has elapsed, any 
team not present to contest its 
opponent will be forced to forfeit 
the g·ame in favor of the opposi-
tion. 
The time of play for all softball 
games will be at 6:45 p. m. The 
games will be seven innings long, 
but may be shortened to five in-
nings by mutual agreement of the 
team captains. If any team. fails 
to continue in a game for · at least 
five innings, the team must for-
feit. 
All team captains will check out 
of the athletic office one ball and 
one bat. The captains must bring 
this equipment to each softball 
game that his team participates in. 
Also, each team will f urnisb one 
official for each team sport. 
All disputes will be settled by a 
committee composed of Lt. Joe 
Stevens, Chief J. E. Glover, and 
Coach J. G. Holmes.

Band Wins Week's Retreat

Is New Personnel Officer 
Fred Pennington's Band boys 
turned out a good performance to 
cop the retreat ·parade again last 
Thursday. 
This lets the Band Company 
hold a lead· of one parade over 
the other companies. 
Cadet officers are _continuing 
their training in Judo and bayonet. 
Next Thursday the cadets will 
follow the same program as last
