Trauma Care in Emergency Situations: Organisation of Medical Response and Local Community Resilience
Emergencies such as natural disasters, industrial accidents, and mass trauma events demand a rapid, coordinated medical response to minimise morbidity and mortality. Effective trauma care hinges on structured protocols, accurate triage, resource optimisation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Triage systems, including the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) protocol and Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment (START), prioritise patients based on injury severity, ensuring timely intervention. Haemorrhage control with tourniquets and haemostatic dressings is critical for survival. Immediate access to diagnostic imaging, point-of-care testing and early blood transfusions enhances outcomes. Hospital emergency plans must account for surge capacity, patient diversion, and intensive care unit preparedness. Trauma centres should implement damage control strategies, including resuscitative thoracotomy and early goal-directed therapy. The integration of telemedicine allows specialists to provide real-time guidance, improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficiency. Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital health tools enhance emergency response by optimising triage, predicting patient deterioration, and streamlining workflows. Cloud-based electronic health records and geographic information systems enable the real-time sharing of data and the rapid deployment of medical teams. Lessons from past crises highlight the need for systematic training, simulation exercises, and multi-agency collaboration. Disaster medicine courses equip healthcare providers with essential trauma management skills, and regular disaster drills enhance the resilience and preparedness of the healthcare system. Sustainable emergency care requires adaptable response models, continuous resource monitoring, and refinement of strategies based on evidence-based practices. Investment in healthcare infrastructure, including trauma centres, mobile field hospitals, and helicopter emergency medical services, is crucial for managing large-scale emergencies. In conclusion, timely emergency trauma care depends on well-coordinated medical responses, advanced technologies, and continuous training. Strengthening local community resilience through systematic preparedness is essential for mitigating the impact of future crises and safeguarding public health
Challenges of electric vehicles urban transport application
As environmental protection becomes a general social narrative, many unverified claims may appear in various popular periodicals, instead of an engineering approach to technical issues and an assessment of practice. One of such assessments and claims is that electric vehicles do not pollute the environment and have no impact on climate change. This paper aims to show how electric vehicle technology also has an impact on the environment and lists several challenges that need to be successfully resolved, so that electric vehicles are accepted and truly represent vehicles with an alternative drive
Design and production of motorcycle rear shock absorber protection using the lamination process
In this paper, the process of creating a replacement product for protecting the rear shock absorber of a motorcycle is described. The manufacturing process includes the design and production of a mould used to create a prototype from composite material using the lamination process. The mould design is achieved through 3D modelling, and the mould is then produced using a 3D printer, serving as a tool for prototype production
Communication framework for climate information services – ClearClimate project
Climate adaptation strategies are widely implemented globally to address the impacts of climate change. The crucial role in these adaptation strategies belong to Climate Information Services (hereafter CIS or Climate services; Paparrizos et al. 2021). Thus, climate-sensitive decision-making is enabled using reliable climate information, tools, and methodologies delivered by Climate Services. Thereby CIS can significantly improve the quality of decisions by making climate-relevant information accessible, usable, and useful, (Findlater et al., 2021). However, the effectiveness of CIS mostly depends on how information is designed, communicated, and perceived by the public. Despite the advancements in information and communication technologies (ICTs), challenges persist in the usability and trust in CIS—particularly in Southeastern Europe (SEE) and the Balkans. Compared to Western Europe, residents in this region show greater skepticism toward climate change and information services. However, the majority still recognize climate change as a real and pressing threat aligning with the models predict that the region will face an increasing frequency and intensity of extreme heat and drought events by the end of the century (Sutanto et al., 2020; Douville et al., 2023). Findings underscore the need for inclusive, locally adapted CIS, and targeted climate education, especially among youth, to foster informed and proactive climate action across the region. That is why the ClearClimate is aiming to create an International and Intersectoral and Interdisciplinary network to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills and to progress developments in CIS in the area where those services do not exist or are very limited – Southeast Europe. ClearClimate is pushing forward the current research in CIS development to co-develop, co-create and co-disseminate the interventions, artefacts and strategies for promoting the uptake of CIS products in SEE and thus adapt to climate change negative effects
Animal welfare and farm sustainability in crisis: Hazards of AI in food production
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into food production, particularly in response to rising demand for fast-growing, healthy protein sources, presents both opportunities and challenges. Animal producers must navigate issues related to the scale of operations and the substantial resources required to maintain them. With the rise of precision livestock farming (PLF), new hazards have emerged—impacting sustainability, food production, and, critically, farming animal welfare. This article presents a systematic review of literature identifying animal welfare risks associated with AI implementation in farming. It synthetises key concerns to create a crisis management roadmap for large-scale food production systems
Implications of inadequate logging exploitation by malicious artificial intelligence agents
Robust application logging is a critical component for securing systems. However poor logging practices, such as inconsistent event tracking and fragmented data, can introduce significant vulnerabilities within cybersecurity frameworks. Malicious Artificial Intelligence agents exploit gaps in system observability created by these deficiencies, hindering effective detection and response to threats. This paper explores the implications of inadequate logging infrastructure on system accountability and its potential for exploitation by Artificial Intelligence driven threats. By incorporating research from the domains of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, anomaly detection, and digital forensics, it emphasizes the risks posed by inadequate logging in environments increasingly reliant on autonomous systems. Furthermore, this paper proposes strategies to enhance logging infrastructure to mitigate these risks, including real time anomaly detection, semantic log structuring, and improved auditability
Improving the sustainability of agri-food supply chain in Croatia with a focus on food processing and storage
The agri-food supply chain in Croatia has received growing attention due to its essential role in ensuring food security, public health and sustainability. In light of increasing climate variability, disruptions in global markets, and the need for sustainable development, strengthening the efficiency and resilience of the domestic food supply system is becoming a national priority. This paper explores ways to improve the organization of agricultural processing and storage in Croatia, with a particular emphasis on identifying optimal locations for new food storage facilities. It considers key factors such as the geographic distribution of agricultural production, seasonality, transportation networks, and logistical efficiency.
The analysis addresses important challenges related to supplier coordination, transportation, and the distribution of goods across regions. It also takes into account uncertainties in supply and demand, reflecting real-world variability and risk. The results indicate that significant operational improvements are possible, including potential cost savings of up to 4.1%. These improvements could lead to more stable, sustainable, and efficient food distribution systems, particularly in rural and underdeveloped areas.
By offering a strategic approach to planning investments in storage infrastructure and food logistics, this research supports national goals related to rural development, food independence, and environmental sustainability. The insights provided can assist policymakers and stakeholders in making informed decisions that enhance the long-term resilience and effectiveness of the Croatian agri-food sector
Opportunity cost of thirst: Behavioral insights into water bottle use at airports
There is no official data on the availability of free drinking water from the tap at airports. The aim of the study is to examine whether passengers are informed about the availability of free drinking water at the airport and whether they are willing to take water in a reusable bottle. The question arises as to what is the opportunity cost of not having an empty bottle ready when they are thirsty. The study examined whether there is a difference in the share of passengers who buy disposable water bottles at an airport that has access to drinking water from a fountain compared to an airport that does not have a drinking water fountain. The influence of Youth and Family days and the eco-festival on the development of regenerative tourism: The example of Velika Gorica
In times of global challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation and deteriorating quality of life in urban areas, there is a growing need to promote sustainable development models, among which regenerative tourism is becoming an increasingly important concept. In contrast to conventional tourism, which often exploits local resources, regenerative tourism aims not only to preserve but also to actively restore the social, cultural and natural systems of communities. In this context, events that integrate ecological values, local culture, education and intergenerational connections have great potential for the development of sustainable tourism practises.
The Youth and Family Days, which took place in Velika Gorica in May, are a good example of a local initiative that promotes a regenerative approach through a wide range of cultural, educational and ecological activities. The event's programme was carefully designed to include all age groups, with a focus on educating young people, encouraging creativity, sharing leisure activities and raising awareness of active and healthy lifestyles. Through dance performances, sports tournaments, interactive workshops, environmental education and music events, the festival creates a space for dialogue, togetherness and local participation.
The first day of the event was marked by the dance spectacle Good Vibrations and numerous activities in Dr Franjo Tuđman Park, where citizens of all generations gathered in a spirit of togetherness. The programme included dance performances of various styles, sports competitions, mental arithmetic workshops and creative quizzes. These activities not only promote healthy lifestyle habits, but also the active participation of children and young people in the joint creation of cultural and educational content. This strengthens the sense of community and the commitment of citizens to the development of local identity.
One of the key elements of the event is its focus on ecology and sustainability. Over the following days, visitors took part in workshops such as "Dolls made from recycled material", "Brooch making", "No vegetarianism - eco-paradise" and training sessions on recycling, permaculture and climate awareness. These activities are a direct contribution to regenerative tourism as they involve the local population in learning, applying and transferring knowledge about sustainable practises. Children and young people learn how they can contribute to environmental protection through their everyday habits, and festival-goers acquire practical skills that go beyond the confines of the event.
In addition, with workshops such as the “Dron Academy”, the “Gaming Zone” and “Traumatic Art”, the festival offers an innovative mix of technology, art and social engagement that appeals to a younger audience and promotes their digital, creative and presentational skills. Through such content, young people do not remain passive observers, but become active participants and creators – which is one of the basic principles of a regenerative approach to tourism and community development.
Musical programmes, especially the evening concert by Damir Urban and Group 4, further enriched the festival experience, creating a strong emotional bond among visitors and enhancing the symbolic value of the public space. Cultural content such as concerts serves not only as entertainment, but also as a means of connecting and recognising shared values - which is important to create a sense of belonging and local pride, thus increasing the attractiveness of the destination for regenerative tourists.
It is also important to emphasise the social dimension of the event. Youth and Family Days integrate all age groups and create a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment for shared growth and learning. The symbolic celebration of Mother’s Day through the distribution of flowers to all mothers emphasises the festival’s focus on promoting social cohesion, intergenerational solidarity and community emotional wellbeing - which is at the heart of a regenerative approach.
The introduction of ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles through the selection of content, the involvement of local organisations, educational components and transparent programme management further strengthens the transformative potential of the event. While ESG principles are often associated with the business sector, they are increasingly being applied to sustainable event planning and destination management.
In conclusion, the Youth and Family Days event demonstrates how the synergy of cultural, educational and environmental activities can have a concrete and positive impact on the local community and the wider tourism context. By encouraging local participation, promoting sustainable values, empowering young people and fostering intergenerational cohesion, the event not only contributes to strengthening local identity, but also actively renews and transforms the community towards sustainability, resilience and regeneration. It is precisely such initiatives that have the potential to become a model for the future development of regenerative tourism in smaller urban areas and at the local level
Using the gRPC protocol in the context of crisis management
Speed, stability, and efficiency are key parameters in inter-service communication during crisis management. Traditionally, REST, an architectural style based on HTTP protocol principles was used in microservice architecture due to its simplicity and broad support. However, with the increasing number of requests to and between microservices, the gRPC protocol is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative. This paper presents the technical advantages of the gRPC protocol over traditional REST in the context of inter-service communication in crisis conditions, focusing on several key parameters: low latency, efficiency, data streaming capability, and support for distributed transactions. This paper demonstrates the gRPC protocol through the Go programming language, which is also recognized as a very efficient, reliable, and scalable, making it acceptable for microservices development
