Replication Data for: Self-Employment Among the Poor: Does It Pay Off?

    No full text
The study uses a dataset containing information from 351,297 records and 154 variables related to socioeconomic, demographic, labor, and well-being aspects in the United States, extracted from a publicly accessible source via IPUMS (https://cps.ipums.org/cps/). Data were collected between 2013 and 2020. The Current Population Survey (CPS), conducted monthly by the U.S. Census Bureau, employs a combination of in-person and telephone interviews to obtain representative data from the population. IPUMS CPS consolidates and facilitates access to data from the CPS since 1962 for research purposes. These data include household characteristics, employment information, income, health, access to social programs, family structure, educational attainment, racial and Hispanic origin, citizenship, housing, and participation in social assistance programs. </p

2019 Product Announcement and Results of the Maize Regional Trials conducted by CIMMYT-Asia in 2017 and 2018

    No full text
Each year, CIMMYT’s Global Maize Program conducts regional hybrid maize trials through a network of NARS and private seed companies in Asia under various management and environmental conditions (site summary attached in Appendix 4). These entries are compared evaluated against the performance of relevant checks from private seed companies and National Agricultural Research Programs. The objectives of these regional trials are: 1. To identify improved maize hybrids with higher yield and agronomic performance suitable for target product profiles; 2. To help partners identify improved maize hybrids that can potentially replace outdated, less productive, less resilient and/or less profitable commercial varieties in the market; 3. To monitor the breeding progress and enhance regional genetic gains in maize breeding and product development; and 4. To enrich and widen the genetic base of improved maize germplasm through germplasm exchange. Details of Regional Trials conducted by CIMMYT in Asia in 2017 and 2018, are based on the below Target Product Profiles. 1. Product profile 1 (Tropical Rainfed (with erratic/excess rainfall) (Appendix 2): Basic traits: Intermediate maturing, yellow, high yielding, tolerant to drought and waterlogging and resistant to TLB Nice-to-have / emerging traits: FSR, BLSB, FAW CRT-3-8 – Intermediate maturing elite pre-commercial hybrids regional trial (including external and internal checks). 2. Product profile 2 (Tropical Rainfed Dry)(Appendix 3): Basic traits: Intermediate maturing, yellow, high yielding, tolerant to drought and heat and resistance to FSR Nice-to-have / emerging traits: FAW, Charcoal Rot CRT-1&2 - Intermediate maturing elite pre-commercial hybrids regional trial (including external and internal checks)

Impact of nitrogen split application on wheat grain yield and protein content in Conservation Agriculture

    No full text
Research on the effect of split nitrogen application on wheat grain yield and quality under conservation agriculture. The study was conducted during the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 fall-winter cycles in the Bajío region of Guanajuato. The effects of study locations, wheat varieties, nitrogen fractionation, and their interactions were evaluated.</p

From farms to carbon markets: Farmers’ awareness, motivation, determinants, and impact of participating in carbon farming in India

    No full text
This dataset was collected using two questionnaires developed by CIMMYT: the "Household Survey Questionnaire" and the "Lead Farmer Survey Questionnaire". The dataset includes comprehensive household-level, farm-level, plot-level, and village-level information related to carbon farming in India. The household-level data (from 841 households) covers demographics, landholding, crop production, input use, irrigation, sustainable agricultural practices, awareness and participation in carbon credit programs, payment arrangements, training, and social networks. It enables analysis of factors influencing farmers’ participation in carbon farming, adoption of sustainable practices, and the economic, environmental, and social impacts of such participation. The village-level data, provided by lead farmers—either carbon farmers or other knowledgeable farmers—includes details on cropping patterns, adoption of resource-conserving technologies, residue management practices, irrigation water availability and quality, distances to agricultural and community facilities, and specific carbon farming activities within the village. This information supports analysis of the dissemination of sustainable practices, local infrastructure and resource conditions, and the role of lead farmers in promoting carbon farming and encouraging other farmers to participate.<p/

The maize data was collected in 2022 from small-scale farmers in the districts of Mubende and Mityana in Uganda, and the counties of Kakamega and Bungoma in Kenya. The sample size consists of 2,422 small-scale farmers. Farmer profiling questions cover various topics, including: Socio-demographic Information: Variables such as gender, age, family size, and education. Farm Information: Details about farm size, crops grown, animals kept, input usage, and key income sources. Maize Farming Variables: Aspects such as seed purchase, cropping system, seed volume, plot size, harvest volume, and usage. The data also includes the process of identifying and selecting preferred maize seed varieties, presented in video format. For the video data collection, product descriptions were developed into videos featuring presentations by both a male and a female seed multiplicator. Each farmer was randomly shown three of the eight videos available, utilizing an incomplete block design. In total, 7,266 video presentations were made to the 2,422 farmers
