In this work, the development of an analytical model for a memristor is presented. The model is based on the solution of the differential equation that governs the physical behaviour of the device. The solution has been obtained by resorting to a homotopy perturbation method. The resulting memristance function is controlled by the electric charge, and full symbolic expressions are obtained in function of the main parameters of the memristor. The obtained model is characterised both for AC and DC sources. The main fingerprints of the device in AC regime have been verified, as well as the main parameters in DC (the switching voltages and saturation time). In order to show the usefulness of the model, two applications that use memristive grids as an analog processor, are studied. In a first application, the memristive grid is used as a filter for image edge detection and smoothing, obtaining a good performance in comparison with the edge recognition made by humans. In a second application, the memristive grid is used in the maze solving problem, since the analog processor implements the shortest path method.

There is a tendency to protect digital content from unauthorized use. The importance of protecting images is that it seeks to authenticate said content with the help of a certain entity against unauthorized use. A proper method is required to mark large number of images produced in certain applications. This work proposes to solve the problem of unauthorized use of natural images by using watermarking techniques and visual cryptography. Efficient hardware architecture to implement the proposed method was also be explored. The principal contribution of this work is that the proposed scheme can reach copyright protection and authentication at same time. According to the experimental results, the proposed watermarking scheme obtains similarly results in terms of imperceptibility and robustness, but embedding more information than others schemes

EEG signal processing based on stochastic resonance

In this dissertation the phenomenon of stochastic resonance was investigated, i.e. the optimal noise-induced increase of a dynamical system's sensitivity and its ability to amplify small periodic signals. We have considered bistable stochastic systems fed with a small periodic signal (two-state Markov chains) with discrete and continuous time and diffusions in double-well potentials. In the Markov chain case, one-step or infinitesimal probabilities are periodically modulated. In the diffusion case, depths of the potential wells are periodically changed in time. We introduce several measures of goodness for tuning, the most important one of which is the coeficient signal-to-noise ratio and harmonic distortion (SINAD), which describes the spectral content carried by the averaged random output corresponding to the frequency of a small deterministic periodic perturbation. Quartic double well (QDW) modulation was performed by moving the wells separation, depth and friction, supposing a particle forced by stochastic Brownian movement described by the modified Duffing system forced by white Gaussian noise. This approach leads to Langevine equations definition, analyzed by its corresponding Fokker-Planck equation and sustained by two state theory, to acquire the transition rate between wells for Stochastic Resonance (SR) induction. Also, QDW modulation will be shown to recover the input signals by pushing the Duffing system into pseudo-separatrix states and, thus, forcing a limit cycle by the stochastic force. The proposed methodology was algorithmically implemented based on Runge-Kutta integration and tested with input signals under -10dB. Discrete wavelet transform DWT and autocorrelation were compared with the modulated QDW methodology with interesting results. Moreover, Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals where processed under our methodology, showing enhanced results compared with other methods

Electricity generated by solar energy conversion, is considerated one of the alternatives sources most promising and clear than can substitute the fossil fuels. By the photovoltaic effect, solar cells can covert solar radiation into electricity, for that reason the study and development has become in a topic of interest in recent years. By its advantages over other technologies, silicon is presented as ideal technology for the fabrication of Photovoltaics devices. However, in order to use solar cells in many countries as sustainable energy production is necessary reduce the production costs. The aim of this research work was to establish a fabrication process of simple structures of solar cells based in the crystalline silicon (c-Si) technology, maintaining competitive conversion efficiencies (12-15 %). The Spin-On Dopant Filmtronics SOD-P509 was used as n-type liquid source in the pn junction formation of the solar cells, a thin lm of silicon dioxide (SiO2) was deposited as single layer anti-reflection coating and aluminum (Al) was used for the metal contacts formation. Under this conditions an efficiency of 7.9 % was obtained. In order to improve the performance of the devices fabircated, techniques as surface texturization and back surface eld (BSF) were incorporated into the fabrication process. The surface texturization was made by alkaline solutions using the potassium hydroxide (KOH) as etchant solution in order to reduce supercial reflection losses. While the BSF was created by the aluminum diffusion in the rear side of the solar cells with the purpose of reducing surface recombination at the rear side of the devices.

In this work, the detection of three Induction Motor fault conditions using the Orthogonal Maching Pursuit algorithm is presented. This technique is based on nding the sparse representation of a signal from the linear combination x = D. The OMP algorithm was implemented into a Field Programmable Gate Array to perform signal decomposition and obtains the sparse representation of the signal given a dictionary (D). Then, the signal information obtained from sparse representation is evaluated and classied by the proposed criteria. Accordingly, Broken-Rotor Bar detection were accomplished with an accuracy greater than 93% for: Healthy bar, Half-broken bar, and One-broken bar. The detection was performed from vibration signals preprocessed and analyzed in frequency domain. The dictionaries were obtained by K-Singular Value Decomposition algorithm developed in Matlab software. The FPGA implementation is low-complexity, compact, and works at 100 MHz.En este trabajo, la detección de tres condiciones de falla de un Motor de Inducción usando el algoritmo Orthogonal Matching Pursuit es presentada. Reliability analysis and improvement of nanoscale CMOS digital circuits

Reliability degradation due to transistor aging is a major challenge in the design of digital integrated circuits for current and future technology nodes. Bias Temperature Instability (BTI) is the dominant aging mechanisms in digital circuits. BTI gradually increases the device's threshold voltage (Vth) over the lifetime, which in turn degrades circuit speed, and ultimately, it may cause a faulty operation. Circuit performance degradation due to BTI is highly dependent on the operating conditions such as the executed workloads by the circuit and the operating temperature. Moreover, variability in devices parameter due to process variations aggravate the reliability issues. These effects need to be properly accounted during circuit design phase to obtain electronic products with improved lifetime. Conventional worst-case one-time guardbans to deal with aging due to BTI are becoming too large with technology scaling, which leads to conservative designs with reduced performance. This thesis addresses BTI aging issues from two different perspectives: Aging Monitoring: Aging sensors are introduced in the circuit critical paths (CP) in order to detect when they are close to violate timing speci_cations due to BTI. Then, failure-prevention actions (i.e. increase system clock period) can take place. This thesis proposes a methodology to efficiently identify, at an early design phase, the critical paths of the circuit that should be monitored for reliable on-line aging tracking. The major challenges addressed for critical path selection are the uncertainty caused by process parameters variations, the uncertainty on spatial correlation between gates since gate placement in the layout is unknown at early design phase, and the uncertainty of the operating workload of the circuit, which is unknown in advance at the design phase. Reliable Circuit Design: Among the gates that belong to the critical paths of a circuit, some of them are more efcient to be re-sized to compensate aging degradation. This thesis proposes a circuit design methodology to reduce the guardband required for a circuit by smart selection an sizing of the circuit's critical gates. Gate selection metrics are proposed to guide the sizing process of the circuits. One of the most important parameters taken into account by the metrics is the statistical path delay sensitivity to gate sizing, which depends on process variations, spatial correlation between gates, and the BTI degradation of the device
