Snow Season Earthquake Behavior in Seismic Isolation and Correspondence to the Huge Earthquake
Recently, the happening large earthquake occurs extremely unusually. In the present study, the earthquake response analysis of a seismic building at the snowfall due to the large earthquake is first done, and what influence the snowfall gives to a seismic building at the earthquake is considered. Next, it is examined whether the snowfall plays the role as the cushioning material so that the building should not collide with the retaining wall around a seismic layer when the massive earthquake to the horizontal migration that exceeds the clearance that has been installed in surroundings in the base-isolated structure happens.departmental bulletin pape
Fluorescence Properties of Rare-earth Ions in Al2O3-SiO2 Glasses
Fluorescence and excitation spectra of the rare-earth ions in Al2O3-SiO2 glass prepared by the sol-gel method are investigated. 5D emission intensities of Eu3+ and Tb3+ under the excitation of the f-f transition decreases with increasing the temperature. This observation leads to a conclusion that the radiative transitions of Eu3+ and Tb3+ are quenched by the high-frequency vibration of the coordinated O-H groups. Under the excitation of the f-d transition of Tb3+, 5D4 emission intensities increase with the temperature. This temperature dependence is attributed to the intersystem crossing between 5D4 state and the 4f75d1 state.departmental bulletin pape

Survey on underground soil structure of the east and west section in Fukui Plain through microtremor H/V and gravity survey
In the previous paper, the authors proposed a simple method of deducing the ground structure by using microtremor H/V spectrum, and conducted a high dense microtremor H/V and gravity survey in the north and south line along the points where the array observation had been done. Through this the underground soil structure of the section of Fukui Plain was deduced. In the present study, the underground soil structure in the east and west section was tested by using the same technique. Through the examination, it was deduced that the east and west section is similar to the north and south section in that the depth of the surface of the neogene period strata is about 300m and the depth of the seismic bedrock is about 1500m.departmental bulletin pape
Genetic variation of the fourspine sculpin, Cottus kazika in Kochi Prefecture based on mitochondrial control region sequences
The mitochondrial DNA sequence for the control region was determined for 49 Cottus kazika individuals collected at two rivers in Kochi Prefecture. Only two haplotypes, including one polymorphic site without insertion and deletion, were detected in Monobe River population. The haplotype and nucleotide diversities in Monobe River were 0.389 and 0.0006, respectively. In contrast, no sequence variations were found in Aki River population. No significant population subdivision was detected among the sample locatins based on the ΦST value. These results indicate that there is no genetic differentiation between two rivers and low genetic variations.departmental bulletin pape
Structural Chemistry of the Model Complexes for the Active Center in Nitrite Reductase –X-ray Structural Studies on CuR2bpaEtNO2 (R = H, Me) Complexes
The crystal structure of a model complex for the active center in nitrite reductase, [Cu(II)(bis(2-pyridylmethyl-6-R)ethylamine)NO2 (R = H, Me) complexes have been determined by X-ray diffraction method at -160 degrees centigrade. Two complexes have the different substituent in the positions next to the nitrogen of pyridine moiety in bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (bpa) ligand. The substituent is hydrogen in complex 1, and methyl group in complex 2. The difference in these substituents about the bulkiness and the electrostatic property resulted in the different coordination geometries around the central copper atoms. In complex 1, copper atom is coordinated by three nitrogen atoms in bpa ligand, two oxygen atoms in nitrite ion, and one oxygen of ClO4- ion. In complex 2, ClO4- ion is replaced by the crystallization water. Another big difference between the complexes is the reverse geometry of N2 atom in bpa ligand. The nitrite ion is concluded to take an asymmetric chelate coordination in both complexes.departmental bulletin pape
Analysis of Broad-band Frequency Selective Shielding Glass by FDTD method
A frequency Selective shielding (FSS) glass is a print of many same size antennas on a sheet of glass, and it has high shielding properties for one specific frequency. In the past, the author analyzed theoretically the characteristics of the FSS, as a large scale array antenna. The FSS has narrow-band shielding characteristics. This time, the author analyzed accurately the characteristics of a FSS glass being a print of many same size dipole antennas on a sheet of glass by FDTD method. As the result, new broad-band FSSs are designed. This paper shows compositions and characteristics of the new broad-band FSSs.departmental bulletin pape
