The Relationship Between Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intentions Among Long-Haul Truck Drivers in the United States
No full textLong-haul truck drivers are in high demand due to persistent turnover rates. This quantitative correlational study explored job satisfaction levels among long-haul truck drivers in the United States and examined the relationship between job satisfaction, its components, demographic characteristics, and turnover intentions. Grounded in Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory and Mobley's employee turnover model, the study surveyed a sample of 107 long-haul truck drivers. The research employed a survey instrument incorporating the Job Satisfaction Survey, the Turnover Intention Scale. and demographic questions related to gender, age, and tenure. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, independent samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression. Findings revealed a significant moderate inverse relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intentions, with operational procedures and rewards emerging as key predictors of turnover intentions. Additionally, results indicated that long-haul truck drivers generally experience moderate levels of job satisfaction and turnover intentions. Notably, drivers with one year of industry experience exhibited lower turnover intentions than those with one to two years of experience. This study offers valuable insights into the components influencing job satisfaction and turnover intentions, contributing to a deeper understanding of workforce retention within the long-haul trucking industry in the United States
